Looking For Mr. Goodbar (1977) - open matte vs widescreen comparison

This is just a small visual comparison between the two versions: the open matte version is from a Dutch TV broadcast while the widescreen version is from a recent TCM broadcast. Obviously, the TCM version is less washed out and technically better with more details. Some would say that the open matte is better because it has more details that would have otherwise been matted... This comparison also uses the TCM audio which is clearer.

Interesting facts:
This scene between Tony and Theresa; portrayed by Richard Gere and Diane Keaton, makes overt references to Mario Puzo's The Godfather: Keaton is seen with a book of The Godfather (she had starred in the film version in 1972) whereas Gere quotes a famous line ("I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse") in the very movie.
Aside from its theatrical releases, TV broadcasts, VHS, or LaserDisc, Looking For Mr. Goodbar has never been released on newer physical media like DVD or Blu-ray.
