    I just wanna say thank you. I took my Ati Teas on Friday and even though I didn’t do so well overall, math was my highest score, I got an 84% and that’s amazing because I suck at math. I revised the previous night on a panic watching this video and it made it so easy for me. I’m so glad I had a calculator on the screen available all the the time bc I was afraid I’d forget or miscalculate using multiplication or division by hand. Thank you so much though. I’m retaking in two weeks so I know this time I’ll practice more and get that 100

    1.The Sum of two numbers is 20. Which of the following equations states that the product of one number and the square of another is 50? The answer is X^2(20-X)=50 . which I have no clue how they got (20-x) . Thanks so much!

      There are 2 equations you can get from the info.
      X + Y = 20 and X²Y = 50
      From the 1st equation you can get Y in terms of X.
      X + Y = 20
      -X - X
      Y = 20 -X
      With substitution, you can put this value of Y into the original 2nd equation.
      X²Y = 50. Since y = (20-X), plug this into the equation.
      X²(20-X) = 50

      Word problems is a very broad subject. Focus on one specific type/topic of word problem. For example... percentage word problems... there are so many types. Sales tax, tips, discounts, percentage of people (or things), bar graphs, circle graphs, and more. These are all based on percentages.

  • @gracegeorge7285
    @gracegeorge7285 3 года назад +1

    That number 9 question has literally caused me to pull some hair out thinking about the solution...Lol, Why could it not be solved by getting 60 percent of the $120 mark up=72, and then subtract that from the total markup price of $120, to get $48. That seemed quite reasonable mathematically speaking. Thank you for breaking it down but I will like this question answered.

    • @bcraftmath
      @bcraftmath  3 года назад +1

      Here is how you "mark something up". Take the price you paid for the item. Find 60% of that price. This is the markup amount. Add that to the original price to find what you sell it for.
      So...
      Original price? We do not know, so we can call it "x".
      Markup? That is 60% of the original price, so "0.60x".
      Add the original price and the markup together to find the price it was sold for.
      x + 0.60x = 120
      Finding 60% of the original and adding that is entirely different than finding 60% of the price sold and subtracting it.
