I’ve am seeing a pt for strengthening exercises after pelvic floor surgery. This breathing technique is what we’ve been working on. She calls it hypopressive breathing and besides helping with coughing, it’s suppose to help with strengthening the pelvic floor. Thank you Michelle. Your instructions are so helpful!

Thank you! I have this strange thing where doing proper deep breathing exercises sometimes makes me panic more like I'm not getting enough air. It's an anxiety thing of course, and I know that it's a viscious circle because when I feel like I'm not getting enough air I suck it in as much as possible into my chest to feel that feeling that I've equated, over the years, with "getting enough breath". Logically I know it's wrong, and when I do deep breathing with meditation for example, not just thinking about it, or movement, it feels much better. But I was wondering if you have any tips? Even the mere fact of breathing only in my lower ribs and belly seems to trigger the eventual response to want to breathe in my chest. is it just a matter of habit...? Mind over matter? Or have I somehow trained myself to need "chest air"? Thanks!

I am 8 weeks pregnant, I have been non stop constipated. Litterly all day have been trying to poop every other hour and nothing comes out but i know its there. I got home from work and have been on the toilet for an hour and I have not been able to poop and has became painful so as a last resort I came here. I felt like i sounded absolutely absurd. I kept trying for 5 minutes with breaks of breathing and i kid you not my shit came out. I have never in my life been so fucking thankful 😭 you're going to sound and feel stupid but it works

Thank you. This really helped. I've been working on getting in shape while stuck at home and had improved my posture as well with strength training and yoga and I'm starting to run more but I've always had trouble breathing through my nose properly and revert to my mouth when I do any sort of cardio. I feel energized from doing this. I also have trouble breathing when I'm trying to sleep at night. Looking forward to seeing if this helps.

Repeat this out loud in front of a mirror twice a day while smiling and nodding your head up and down, because you are agreeing with your affirmations.
    1. Every decision I make is supported by my whole and inarguable experience.
    2. I affirm and encourage others, as I do myself.
    3. I alone hold the truth of who I am.
    4. I am allowed to ask for what I want and what I need.
    5. I am allowed to feel good.
    6. I am capable of balancing ease and effort in my life.
    7. I am complete as I am, others simply support me.
    8. I am content and free from pain.

Hi Michelle: What kind of breathing routine using deep breathing would you recommend if I want to strengthen my lungs during this Covid pandemic? I’m far less active now with quarantine/homeschooling than I usually am, so I feel my lung capacity has suffered and I’d like to build it back up with aerobic exercise and breathing exercises. Thanks! Love your videos! Keep them coming!

    • @michellephysio
      @michellephysio  4 года назад

Hey Carol sorry for the delayed reply! We usually breathe up when we exercise - yes you can do the breathing technique/ exercises in this video but also try to be active - even marching on the spot, lunges, mini squats like a little circuit in the lounge room would be great for you and your kids to do. Walk briskly when you can & most importantly eat and sleep as well as you can all the best!

Mica these exercises help to increase the oxygen concentration in your blood so may help temporarily but get this checked out with your doctor too if this continues

    Stomach/abdominal pain:
Does anyone suffer from abdominal pain, maybe ibs symptoms or inflammation in the digestive system, that makes it difficult/painful to do breathing exercises? Do you have any breathing exercises to work on that pain?

Hi, I am expanding out and my belly is going out, but my shoulders still rise some. This could be because I can't quite straighten my back. I try to be as straight as I can though. I am currently on a riser on my left foot and we are likely going to have to go up more eventually. Some of my ribs are popping out and this is also causing my shoulder and hips to not be in the right place either. Part of my recovery my osteopath wants me to work on my deep breathing to stretch my lungs becuase I've been breathing at a much lower capacity than I could be because of the displacements making it too painful and kind of impossible to breathe fully in.

There's no time limit, just do this as you feel comfortable. Start practicing your deep breathing for a minute or two, if you feel good and not lightheaded you can then try to do this very longer. Just progress gradually
