    2. If it was misdiagnosed, they didn't do an actual genetic screening.
    3. Prenatal genetic screenings are a good thing to get. There are painful and lethal genetic conditions that will result in a very short life of nothing but suffering, like Trisonomy 18 or Tay Sachs.

It just means it’s different. If 1000 people have 10 fingers and 5 people have 12, stores aren’t going to start making gloves that have 12 fingers because it’s NOT NORMAL for humans to have 10. Doesn’t mean it’s wrong if you do. Just not normal. Y’all need to seriously go get some therapy and find out what is mentally hindering you to where you have to find a problem with everything. Many people that are born with illnesses end up suffering way more than most people, specially if the parents do not have enough money to support their medical needs, and i myself would rather adopt than put another person on earth only to suffer the same way i do, however it is also completelly valid and healthy to choose to have that baby, i just wish people wouldnt judge these that chose any of these options, specially if they dont know their reasons

It's WAY more normal than doctors say it is. Down's Syndrome tests are quite often wrong.

Unfortunately it is quite common, there’s not much to be done until after birth to confirm diagnosis like genetic testing and such because performing those intrautero is very risky and could potentially be fatal to the fetus/baby. And since genetic testing is the only definitive way to close a diagnosis we can only give the parents a possible diagnosis during pre natal care and reference the mother to a high risk pregnancy hospital in hopes for better care and easier access to modern technologies that are not available everywhere. That being said only very severe cases like the ones where the baby has multiple malformations that can be seen in ultrasound are the ones we give more than a “it’s possible” talk to the parents (and I’m talking babies with congenial heart defects, facial defects, TGI defects, neurological malformations….). It’s common for a “misdiagnosis” because until birth it’s pretty much a guessing game for everyone but the severe/incompatible with life cases.

My sister was told there was a high risk that my niece would have DS. She was offered a test but refused as it would have risked the baby and decided whatever would happen, she would deal with as her son also has mental delay, autism and other issues. In the end, she didn't have DS but would have loved her even if she did.

They don't casually misdiagnosis Down Syndrome. After finding that possibility w/ initial testing, further testing would be offered to rule in or out that diagnosis.

My family friend had a misdiagnosed pregnancy. The thought they should end the pregnancy because he would be seriously disabled. She said no. At the time of giving birth they had a specialist on hand. He looked at the scans and asked why he was there. He said there was nothing wrong with her son.

My daughter who is 20 is doing her internship was once going to be labelled autistic cos she was a slow speaker as a toddler. I refused treatment cos I didnt want her to grow up with the stigma. She turned out normal. Doctors say the darndest things.

Always have that discussion before you get married. My husband and I discussed that stuff on our first date to determine compatibility. How each of us felt about having kids, what if they turned out with medical conditions diagnosed in the womb etc. It saves a lot of heartache.

Yo, this should be made standard first date practice. You're 100% right, would save a lot of heartache and time. So what if your personalities click if you're polar opposites when it comes to big decisions you'd need to make as a couple?
