Drop-dead gorgeous…. I love everything about Janine’s playing, her bowing, her way of showing us a piece of music always in a new way…so heartfelt~. And my god, Kathryn Stott! There couldn’t be a more perfect pair of musicians, playing this piece together! 🙏🔥🙏
Marvellous Janine Jansen at the apex of her art. She not only plays the music, she gets so emotional with the beauty of this piece that she embodies the music, she "is" the music. How fortunate we are to be be able to watch this! 💟
What a wonderful collaboration between Ms Jansen and Ms Stott! The equal partnership is full of nuances which both performers appreciated and communicated so effectively. A welcome and much-needed change from too many performances of this sonata which sound like the pianist is little more than a flower vase on the piano! Would love to listen to more collaborations between these two highly polished and sensitive artistes. Bravo, ladies!
Many years ago i swutch on the radio by chance, just missing the announcement starting the BBC lunchtime concert....the pianist made a slight slip in the opening of the Fauré 1st Sonata, but at the violinist's entry all became magical. Who was this fantastic violinist, giving an interpretation to die for? Even when i heard the name, i didn't know anything about her, what nationality, etc. Since then i've heard her many times, would never miss her, and when teamed with K Stott, (also the pianist in the BBC concert!), one knows it'll be passionate music-making. As it is here, wonderful!
The full sonata is beautiful (a showcase for both the violin AND the piano), but that final movement must rank among the finest of the entire chamber music canon.
I think I would have to agree that this is Franck's greatest work, but I also greatly love his first piano trio in f-sharp minor, which seems to me to be relatively unknown.
Janine is a good violinist but Kathryn Stott is magnificent on the piano. Listen to Stott's complete Faure if you can although not much of it is available on YT. You have to buy the CD's from Hyperion.

18:33 is the beginning of one of the best melodic lines ever written
Wonderful interpretation. Marvelous musicians
Magnificent playing by both Ms Jansen and Ms Stott. This is one of the finest performances of this work that I have ever heard.
I agree with every word of your comment.

Beautiful music and playing. This music will last forever.
This was the first piece of chamber music I heard in my life many years ago, and is always special for my mind. This version is wonderfull.
The pianist!!!! And also Janine!!!! But the pianist!!!! So goooooood
yes the pianist is fantastic
I like very much that pianist, I can hear everything; not extra pedal!!
0:25 I. Allegretto ben moderato
6:27 II. Allegro
14:26 III. Ben moderato: Recitativo-Fantasia
22:04 VI. Allegretto poco mosso
I adore Ms. Jansen. And there is no violin sonata more hypnotic than this one.
Hypnotic is the right word.
A (bold) performance that is a REVELATION ! Bravissime Janine and Kathryn ! Thx for this wonderful upload!
Thank you. Absolutely superb and beautiful.

Phoenominal! Really hard not to want to clap after the 2nd movement...nearly jumped out of my seat--so exciting!
The thumbs down must be from bots
It's absolute... amazing this perform of Franck's sonate!

All four do. But, if I had to pick one, it would be the third.
Superbe interprétation de cette oeuvre géniale par deux musiciennes romantiques à souhait
Terrific. Lovely piano playing from Ms. Stott as well - nice finishing tempo, very exciting!
I want this as a gift for my wedding day
I love Franck's music in general but this sonata is for me by far the greatest thing he ever wrote.
Many would agree
