This was super useful! I had an orchid for 2 months and was wondering if it was even alive. I cut it like you mentioned and it grew 5 new stems and is now blooming brilliantly! Perfect explanation and examples. Thank you!!
Question: It grew 5 new stems..?? Like the long stems that grow straight up & then have several flowers on each stem.. Or You just trimmed back them stem that was already there.. & now you have branches coming off of that, which are producing flowers now..?? 🤔Just trying to understand what you mean.. Either way, it's Awesome..!! And more than I've been able to do with my Orchid that I got for Mother's Day.. lol😁 I thought I killed it when all the flowers eventually died & fell off.. I didn't know that they went into a resting state for 6-9 months.. Until I started looking it up on RUclips.. lol🤪
Short but precise explanation… i received an orchid as gift from my favorite garden-nursery 😊 that’s why as a newbie, i really need some guidance and this is exactly what i need (i think) for now…
I was looking up how to take care of the orchid that I got from Hy-vee, and saw that they are YOURS. Thanks for having such a comprehensive set of instructions and videos. Orchids are my favorites and I have never known how to grow them. :)
Thanks for the really useful tip. We have a phalaenopsis which was bought with a double stem of small flowers, last year, but which has produced over 20 flowers on one stem, on several side branches, this year. It's fine otherwise, with plenty of good leaves and roots. It lives on a window ledge wit morning sunlight. Ambient temperatures range between just above freezing up to 25° C with occasional excursions up to about 30° on a few days in Summer. We feed it with orchid food whilst flowering, and water it once each week for a few hours, adjusting slightly with the seasons.
Thank you for this video! Phal's love my house and will bloom for 6 months, I can get them to grow new leaves and roots but no new spikes yet! Another beauty trying to teach me patience !
I made a mistake! I cut the stems all the way to the base. No wonder why my healthy orchids haven’t bloomed for 2-3 years. What should I do to get the blooms again. Thanks so much!
I wish I saw this one before I cut off both spikes. But one spike was black from the bottom. Snow I have a pot of roots with no leaves and some of the roots look brown to me The last blooms were in October and now it is January.
And dillon, I used to think that orchids were all tropical, but it rurns out that you can find orchids every where but antartica, but of course, the orchids they have and almost every orchid you see in stores or greenhouses is tropical.
Thanks for the info I keep most of my non bloomed phals in the front room of my house on the floor under the dinning room table.. I live with smokers... The phals are facing west because thats where the front window is.. there's no heat in the winter the temp probably goes down to 40 degrees when it's 30 degrees outside.. low temps do encourage spikes. flo101
Everyone is saying ice is a killer. Well I have been using ice cubes, just like the instructions on the orchid said, for about 6-7 months. 2 new healthy leaves, new roots & a new spike with multiple flower pods. Only recently have I been looking into how to treat orchids. And I keep seeing about the no ice rule. I'm actually a little nervous to water it because it's been doing so well with the ice cubes
I cut all spent spikes to give the orchids the change to regain energy, reblooms may take awhile but you'll get same pretty flowers next year. Otherwise I buy new orchids, they are quite cheap here in the Northeast.
Hi, thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I was told when I bought my orchid to cut the stem off near the base when it finished flowering, not just above a healthy bud. It has since sprouted some new leaves which looks nice and healthy, but any suggestions on getting it to rebloom? Thanks!
Suze ,they didnt want yr plant 2 bloom again but wanted U 2 splurge on a new plant!Nxt time U go 2 that shop kick them in the nuts -with a stiletto heel
I did the same thing. I've also read that orchids usually only bloom every 6-8 months. I cut the old spike in July/August. I had 2 new leaves & I now have a new spike coming up. Give it time.
I was most skeptical about using ice cubes to water. I tried it over the last few months and to my surprise, I have new blooms shooting from old spikes. This was not happening before. So there seems to be merit in using ice cube watering....
I was reading comments and noticed people yelling about ice. Ok ice is not good for orchids but I don't recall him talking about that in this video. Maybe just add ice orchids is working on bettering their Image. I doubt it. But it would be a good thing.
I have new leaves growing on my spikes. Can i us thought to start a new plant? Thank you great video. I am successful with them I have six all together and this is the first time that I have seen this.Would love to know how to start a plant from another plant. Thank you Haley
Thank you for this video. I learned a lot from the information you provided. I will follow your instructions and enjoy more flowers! Thank you very much!
I would suggest not following the advise given on this channel lol find a channel that doesn't lead you to believe the lie that you should water tropical plants with ice. Here is an article from a good source for information: oregonorchidsociety.org/ice-cubes-and-orchids. Also orchid board is a good source of information from people who aren't out to make money on other peoples naivety.
I had a plant produce a keiki and then accidentally watered it (and all of my other orchids as well) with vinegar thinking it was my orchard food water (which I had mixed in an empty vinegar jug). So mad. I killed about 6 orchid plants that way, but I was able to completely revive about 4. I realized my error after watering ALL of them that way. Not sure how the smell of vinegar didn’t alert me. Mom brain I guess. But I lost my keiki :-/
I have an orchid that the flowers are gone BUT I have a baby plant growing on one of the stems. How can I remove and plant this small plant without killing it?
Hello, I cut the first time the way you show at the beginning of the video and it re-bloomed. I cut it the second time, but there are no blooms. Maybe I should cut the whole spike? Also, there are new leaves at the top of the second spike. I read that I can cut and put it in the new pot (the new leaves with the root), but it does not have any roots and I don't know what to do with it? Shall I wait a little. Maybe the roots will grow soon, although the leaves grew about 2-3 months ago, but there are no roots. Thanks in advance.
Hi =)) this is really helpful , thanks for sharing I am new at this but I love Orchids=) I have a single leaf and I put it in a water culture I wonder if it will grow roots or die .. please help What should I do ?=((
I've got one that I got from granny that is no telling how old, I repotted it, cutting off the dried up roots and the old spikes. It's starting a new leaf and the new spike is about 3 inches long. It never got a chance to cool off it just started going again. One thing I saw was to place the plant in sphagnum only and to not water the moss, place the pot on top of some gravel in the catch pan and just keep water in the bottom so that it makes a humid atmosphere for the plant. Seems to work well for me.
You can buy orchid seeds through many reliable sellers online. However, germinating orchids is nearly impossible to do in a common home setting. The seeds need to come in contact with a specific fungus to germinate and the conditions have to to absolutely sterile when they're not growing in their native environment. Most people have to send their seeds to a lab to be germinated in flasks. Further more, orchids can take anywhere from 2 to 10 years to bloom from seed (depending on genus/species and growing conditions.
Such a good video! The moment he suggests something, he pulls out a specimen to demonstrate and prove his point. Thank you

The more I learn about phalaenopsis the more I love them!
me too
Same here. I have 18 different orchids in my window sill & have them at least 2 yrs.
Thank god! My grandmother gave me one and I was wondering why it was dying and I was ready to throw it out. Glad I did some research. 😊
Thank you for this video because I'm new to the orchid world. This is going to help me with my first orchid
What a cool job! Thanks for the video and excellent examples.
Excellent instructions!! Excited to do this, once my blooms die off!!♡
Now I know why mine does better by the window in the kitchen. I was going to move it this winter but, thanks to the cool info I will just leave it.
The kitcthen is best for humidity, that`s why.

When you say you water it for a few hours.... could you explain your technique?
Thanks.

Thank you! helpful video
The only type of orchids you could give really cold water or ice to is a dracula or cypripedium, and you shouldn't even put it on their roots.
Thank you Frank..your video is really helpful..
Thank you 💚💚💚

What you have is a keiki (baby orchid) it is a new plant.
Yes. It’s technically a clone of the first, since it’s not grown from seed.
What do we do with roots of orchids that are growing up out of the pot?
Thank you for this video. I learned a lot from the information you provided. I will follow your instructions and enjoy more flowers!
Thank you very much!
good advice I learnt heaps that I didn't know!
well demo. cant believe i didnt know b4. appreciate ur expertise !
Thank you
I'm just learning to grow/care for store-bought orchids. I would like to know how orchids are propagated to get new plants.
I would suggest not following the advise given on this channel lol find a channel that doesn't lead you to believe the lie that you should water tropical plants with ice. Then how do you explain orchids that have been thriving for decades with that watering method?
I had cut entire stem. Will it ever grow? Or the new one?
Once you see a new spike can you bring it in a warmer room or keep it by a cold window?
Good videos
I cut the orchids dead spike off last year but have not seen a new one yet. I have alot or roots growing. How do I get a spike to grow?
Tq sharing friend
Our orchid has been abused and does not have a blooming stalk. It does however have an inordinate number of roots. Should these be removed or reduced.
The cut branch in the water has a good chance of producing a keiki too.
I wish I knew that last year and didn't toss it.
I had a plant produce a keiki and then accidentally watered it (and all of my other orchids as well) with vinegar thinking it was my orchard food water (which I had mixed in an empty vinegar jug). what is wrong when the leaves turn yellow
Good job! Thank u!
Orchid Paradise!
Good advice Thanks
Thank u so much for the details
How would I know if my old orchid still good to make it rebloom it doesn't have a stem anymore
Very informative. Thanks 😉😊
I have an orchid that the flowers are gone BUT I have a baby plant growing on one of the stems. How can I remove and plant this small plant without killing it?
What fertiliser do you use?
I've been in weeks now watching about taking care of orchids after i had few died. And I just bought one 2 days ago and I want to keep it alive long.
Thanks in advance.
Let roots grow on it first. Also, cut other spikes (if any) completely to let the orchid gain energy toward the new plant
Thanks...
My leaves droop and some turn yellow, but I have new leaves on top. What is going on? What do I do?
I don't know if I will have the patience required for this plant. I just received it as a gift.
Hi =)) this is really helpful , thanks for sharing
I am new at this but I love Orchids=) I have a single leaf and I put it in a water culture
I wonder if it will grow roots or die .. please help What should I do ?=((
I too have a phal with a single leaf! How did yours do?
What can I do if I already cut the stem all the way from the bottom?
Very helpful! Thank you!!
Great advice, thank you
Are you having more videos???

Hi how can i get colourfull orchids at home .i have no idea where to get it.can you help me please THANKS A LOT * **** ***
I have five healthy green leaves, but no blooms for almost a year. No stems
I have leaves growing out of a root. How do I trim it off? Or do I?
Dutch will always be the champions of growing flowers
So what?
Ice can burn the roots because orchids are tropical plants and do not come across ice in the wild.
PTD 200 it's only for winter and fall
😀I.m used ice
Thank you, very good I learned a lots. Rgds. Holly.
Your video site is not working. The starting music comes back in when your guy starts to talk, and cuts off his voice so you can't hear him!
Hi very nice viode thanks you
Besides the cutting of the spikes, do you use a special fertilizer? Thank you.
He doesn’t bother answering.... not cool
thanks a lot for this nice video!
Can you get orchid seeds commercially, and where. How do you get seed from your own orchid -- method of pollination?
You can buy orchid seeds through many reliable sellers online. However, germinating orchids is nearly impossible to do in a common home setting. A better option is using keiki paste on your orchids so they will produce new plants fast. Watch videos.
