For my money, Benfords Galactic Center series is what I would call an absolute classic. Having read it in the mid 2000's it was actually harder than one might think to procure all the books, as they had been out of print for some time. Luckily they are or were recently back in print. Anyone who loves hard sci-fi, space operas and epic tales will be treated to a galactic mega story taking place over eons. Just a wonderful addition to the science fiction canon, and a series I just can't recommend enough. Way to go in getting these 2 absolute legends on your show, John!

I wish I'd discovered this two years ago. A question occurs: Solar flares, AFAIK, don't exert enough force to displace the Sun. Generating a flare that does would seem to set a limit on how long it can operate before it depletes too much of the Sun's matter.

The thing about Halo ring is that it probably doesn’t spin to create the gravity but the shape most likely is to serve its role as a weapon.

Not a bad 'get' Mr. Godier. After Heinlein, Niven is my favorite SF author. You could've let them go for hours-- of course, if possible! This was nice.

There have been a couple of times Star Trek novels or aspects of the novels became canon: Riker's TITAN started out in novels before it appeared on Lower Decks which made her canon. That was further fleshed out with the story behind the TITAN-A in the last season of Picard.

Depends upon how "mega". Sub-planet to planet sized mega structures would most likely be boring in that they're mostly constructed from asteroids/planetary debris. Eros in The Expanse (TV show). I see no particular reason aliens would invest unnecessary energy into synthesizing structures when adapting natural objects would work just as well. Larger objects would still be constructed from multiple adapted natural objects somehow tethered or connected together. Basically an array of tunneled out asteroids, held into the desired shape by a combination of gravity and momentum.
Similarly, I don't see system-wide physical objects as ever being advantageous, so likely they never have or will exist. Instead, aliens probably just repurpose existing asteroid fields and comet clouds. They could even tether much of those belts and clouds together to manage the masses without us ever being able to observe such from a distance unless we're specifically looking for anomalous orbits that slightly deviate from predicted aggregate orbits.

You brought up and have brought up on several occasions the idea of uploading your consciousness digitally. I remember someone talking about star trek style teleportation some years ago that would scan you entirely than recreate a copy of you at the next terminals. To me both points bring up the issue that technically you still die. I say this as I have wondered, if you upload yourself digitally, do you still not die in the process and as such, is not what exist afterward just an approximation of the original you. I have wondered this for year's and it's made me think that most people would not do it as they do not technically live past the point of upload or teleportation, so would not see a major point in doing so. In my mind you cease to exist at the initial point of interaction.
If someone understands this better I would love more insight.
    Thank and love your videos!

If there was an alien dyson sphere around our own star consisting of thousands of ten meter wide bands streching around the sun. Would our telescopes have the resolution to detect them?

IDK, but if it was there we wouldn't be able to detect stars, galaxies, nebulae etc.
