- Another cocktail, created for the glass that it was originally served in! Here's a cocktail from Trader Vic's in the 1960s!
To make the Trader Vic's Grog:
--------------------------------------
1oz fresh lemon juice
1oz fresh pineapple juice
1oz Passion Fruit Syrup
1 dash Angostura Bitters
2oz dark Jamaican rum
Shake with ice. Garnish with mint, a cherry, and a stirrer.
If possible, serve in a vintage Ten-Pin Pilsner glass!

I’m loving the fact you are giving Trader Vic drinks some love. His stuff has been shoved aside as we rediscovered the Don the Beachcomber cocktails.
JM Garcia i appreciate that. And I love the Don the Beachcomber cocktails a lot. There's just so much to explore in the Trader Vic's Bartenders guides.
Thank you for the shout out Spike! The recipe is anything but difficult. Its equal parts sugar, water, and passion fruit. Just cook like a normal simple syrup and strain. Done.
Tim Willey incredibly tasty!!
Will store-bought passion fruit juice work to make the syrup, or does it need to be fresh from passion fruit itself?
@@clellandm Store-bought works fine. I used the Small Hands version and it tastes great.
I think the word you're looking for is pineapple "frond" 😉
Tomaševskiy Gnativ 😂 yup. When I was editing, I was like, 'it's frond you idiot!'
At 10:45, I appreciate that you plan your next cocktail while taking the initial sips of your first. One of my favorite things to do too!
Ethan Smith Hahahaha... totally
Great episode, Spike. You are very humorous. The drink looks pretty, too.
Thank you, sir.
Very nice drink. I'm going to try it again, but with passion fruit puree. Love using pineapple leaves in the garnish.
So good
TIKI TIP: I am not a fan of Pernod or absinthe. Instead of the "6 drops of Pernod and dash of Angostura", I use Don the Beachcombers secret weapon. "Herbstura" is a mix of half angostura and Herbsaint (another anise flovered nightmare). I substituted Pernod for Herbsaint. I use this everytime it's called for and it works. I was finding 6 drops of anise anything was ruining my Tiki drinks. No more! Aloha Nui!!!!
Other bands? Owners of other tikis bars, other musicians, influencers, historians, and artists--traditional, modern, environmental. So many people you can invite. Honestly, every video based on a recipe is brilliant. Marrying that with someone to interview? I'm so in. Love your shit Spike. Awesome.
Man, what a compliment. Thanks so much!
Awesome show in great cocktail just made me one okay maybe the second one LOL looking forward to next Friday aloha
I’m still so taken with that glass. Not very “Tiki” looking but supremely cool just the same. Well done, as always!
that glass...
I'm absolutely in love with this glass. Great for beers too!
Thanks for posting some good content 😎 I’ve only had a tiki bar for a few months and this channel has helped
I agree with the TJ’s pineapple juice cans. Only pineapple juice I’ll use. Mahalo!
In some markets the TJ’s pineapple juice is in cartons in the refrigerated section. That’s the one I have settled on. Dole in refrigerated cartons is my 2nd choice.
I agree. Love the cork sound too!
Rewatching this episode (trying to figure out what's in Trader Vic's Grog mix so I can make a Golden Grog...), I notice you're a Stone guy. That means IPAs! Hermano! A fellow hop head! 🙂 Never suspected from the beers I've seen ya drinking over the years....
Just made this following ur recipe. You're right about the acidity, but still a fine tiki cocktail, and very easy. Cheers.
Chest Rockwell 🙌🏼
Spike! Absolutely digging these "Glass That It Was Served In" series (and the logo)! Idea for you... print and sell beermat coaster sets of these. Feature photo of the finished cocktail and recipe on one side and the "GTIWSI" logo on the other.
Don The Idea Guy oooo.... cool idea!
Thank you Matt, this was fun to watch. I'm also a fan of many of your cool shirts, if you would want to tell us a little about the shirt you're wearing during your episode, that'd be great. Once again, thank you my dear friend.
Tony Venegas thanks, Tony! I wish I knew anything about the shirts that I'm wearing other than what it says on the label and the approximate era of their creation.
That looks good!
gonna be on the lookout for that glass!
did you know budweiser made bowling pin shaped bottles for bowling alley lounges?
theyre pretty cool too!
blitzen mike oh yeah! I remember seeing those!
Great show as always dude. Aloha
Frond. Pineapple 🍍 Frond!
I do love the show, the cocktails and the beautiful women even more! YA YA
Thaddeus thanks!!
Regarding the pineapple juice I've used both Dole's and Trader Joe's and what I've found is the Dole's can be wildly inconsistent can to can in terms of sweetness.
Just like a Marvel film, you have to wait until the very end to see the good stuff! :)
In fact that drink looks a little like the Golden Grog from the email Trader Vic's sent me. Hmmmm....
Are you still able to find Appleton in stores? I can't find any ANYWHERE! 😡
Menji Speaks yeah, I can find it... but i live near one of the best liquor stores in southern CA... soo.... 🤷🏻♂️
@@BreezewayCocktailHour well if you do, then I do too 😏 what be the name of this here establishment?
Menji Speaks hahaha.... oh! Hi-Time Liquor in Costa Mesa. Every rum you need and waaaay more.
@@BreezewayCocktailHour YOU have just made my day! 🙏🏼
Aloha Spike! I love that you've got yourself a #tikigarden going! My mint has gone nuts and is trying to stage a coup in my garden. I want to send you a tiki gardener bumper sticker, DM me on here or my FB page and I'll send it. Here's what it looks like: ruclips.net/user/postUgy48YBjsgmVJmI-Q5p4AaABCQ Okule Maluna!
Martin Cate and Beachbum Berry say Dole 🍍 is good? Puhleez, listen to the internet!! 😜
Nick Morton Hahahha...
I will cut anybody that disparages Dole pineapple juice in those small cans.
