I have had the same issue with holding on the side and accidentally advancing the page. I found if you go to the ... menu (right most menu) while in a book there is an option called "Disable Touchscreen" which prevents this. With this on you will only be able to swipe to go forward and back pages but can't do anything else. This behavior is turned off once you close the book either by putting it to sleep with the home button or close the case (if you have a magnetic one that sleeps the Kindle).
I purchased the paperwhite kids when i heard it was releasing and found it on a black Friday sale, my workplace also surpassed their profit expectations so we got a £50 amazon voucher, I traded in my blue kindle paperwhite I bought a month max ago, and I have never regretted my purchase since. The battery is phenomenal, I've been swamped the last 2 months and haven't found time to read the kindle is still above 80% ridiculous. USB c is my favourite upgrade because I have USB c everything. I bought my first kindle probably 3 years ago, I've completed 6 books since then and started perhaps 15. Best purchase I've made in the last 2 years!
I’ve had the same issue that sometimes it just doesn’t respond and I have to restart it. Hopefully it is resolved in a future update. It always makes me panic that it’s broken! I ended up putting a pop socket on the back of my case for comfort. The cover won’t fold back on itself, but that doesn’t bother me so much. I bought my Paperwhite on a bit of a whim for a lengthy camping trip and, yes, it was wonderful for late night fireside reading, but I’m really surprised with how much I’ve used it since. I really do love it! Thanks for your update!
Would you recommend this Kindle to a first time user? I have never owned a Kindle before. This one is the most affordable one I can find in my country. I'm not too demanding, I just want to read books, have my eyes not hurt, and have the device last a few years at least.
All kindles are about 90% the same as far as functions. So any kindle you get will be just fine for beginners. It all depends on your budget and if you need water proofing. Only the basic model does not have water proofing. The screen has lower resolution but generally this is not an issue as long as you are just reading text.
@@rodhernandez4134 Thanks! Waterproofing is not necessary, but it is a nice bonus. I am excited for the device as there's some books I really wanna get to that are either out of print physically or are only published digitally.

I've had 3 generations of the kindle paperwhite and have never had the accidental page turning happen. I just use a case with a flip book style case. It makes it a lot more comfortable to hold and keeps it protected.
Thanks for circling back after 6 mo; equally as important as the first impression. I'll be watching your channel for when that USB-C Oasis with faster E-ink screen ever comes out.
4:25 you can solve this issue by clicking the "disable touchscreen" feature when you tap the three dots in the top right corner. that way your screen wont flip pages just because of random touches. it'll only register swipes
I really think the signature edition is worth it. I love putting the Kindle on the charging stand, seeing the cover of the book and easily keeping my kindle charged. It also takes less space than plugging it in.
A huge problem relates to the current crop of official Amazon cases which for utterly incomprehensible reasons have sharp sides and are almost impossible to hold for any length of time. For this reason, I have two which are simply gathering dust. I settled eventually for a third-party case that gives the device structure and makes it much easier to hold and handle. It even has a stand that I have used far more than I originally anticipated. I can't provide a link to the case, but here's the Amazon description: "FINTIE Stand Case for 6.8" Kindle Paperwhite (11th Generation-2021) and Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition - Premium PU Leather Sleeve Cover with Card Slot and Hand Strap, (Black)"
Talking about responding time, it’s funny that I think my KP5 is actually a bit slower than my kindle 8 (both kindles have the same firmware 5.14.2, I knew there’s a newer version but haven’t got my updates yet). My KP5 is definitely faster on downloading or web browsing, but in a situation when I only read one super long book (for the time being I never exit the book and open another one), I think my kindle 8 is faster on page turning…I tested them side by side, it’s might be an illusion but that’s how I felt.
Haaaaa! I remember from your Nook review how much you dislike the bezels. The bezels is what keeps one from touching the screen accidentally AND it has clicky buttons on both sides! 👍🏽😎👍🏽
Purchased my 1th gen Kindle Paperwhite in Feb 2022. It's already broken. Stuck on restart no matter what you do. Thankfully still under warranty. I at first loved the upgrade, larger screen, wireless charging, etc. Now a few months later it no longer works. I suggest older models!
Great video. Would love to see you do a video around your thoughts regarding the rumor of a 2022 kindle that includes note talking capabilities with a stylus. Good ereader just released a video around it
I'm more than happy to have bezels on my Basic White Kindle, for exactly the reasons you highlighted. Even so, I experience the odd accidental page turning issues! I wish Amazon would make it possible to "lock" the reading progress status in a future update. Accidentally triggering that is really frustrating! 😉
I have had trouble with this Kindle in several areas. The touch screen doesn't work much of the time. I often can't turn the page. I can't choose a word to highlight or define. The white screen comes on for no reason and I can't get out of it. This is the second Kindle I've purchased in just a few weeks because I had to send back the first one and looks like I'll be sending this one back as well.
I do like the larger bezel on the side of the kobo. I can hold with one hand and turn pages with the thumb on the buttons. And I like that you can turn it 180 degrees and use the other hand. Eg If I’m stirring food I’ll use my left hand to stir, and use my right hand for holding and reading. If I’m eating food I’ll use my right hand to eat and read with the left. I’m looking forward to seeing they do next with Kindle. I wouldn’t mind getting one if it incorporates more of the kobo features.
My biggest issue with my Kindle Paperwhite 2021 is the slowness, and I have to attempt to download an ebook multiple times (2-3) before the ebook actually registers as downloaded. I also have to restart the new Paperwhite 2021 about 1 or 2 times per week because it becomes unresponsive at times. I think the new update released yesterday will help, but it hasn't fixed the fail to download ebooks after multiple attempts issue. When I'm reading an ebook, I like the page turn animations and the perceived speed, but navigating through the UI is slow. My Kindle Oasis is faster and downloads ebooks on the first attempt after the new update, but the Auto brightness tends to want to stay on higher brightness levels than the Kindle Paperwhite 2021, which, I believe, drains the Oasis's battery faster. If my Kindle Oasis had USB Type C, better battery life and the new E Ink Carta 1200 screen, it would have been a perfect device for me. Amazon will have to actually justify any new Kindle Oasis's price because the Paperwhite 2021, even with problems has great features at a great price. I believe Amazon will make any new Kindle Oasis have a 7.8" or bigger screen, bigger battery, new screen technology, such as E Ink Carta 1200 or better or maybe include a color screen, USB Type C is a given, and possibly keep a similar design ergonomic design with actual turn page buttons.
I have noticed my PW5 is not as responsive compared to my basic model. Especially when using voiceview. I prefer to use voiceview on my basic compared to my PW5. I find using a case I don't have the problem with the accidental touches as you mention. Still glad I got it. I still recommend using magnetic cables with your devices. It make charging so much easier and faster. Makes proactive charging a breeze. I also never had the problem of needing separate charge cables to change the different devices in my home or car when using magnetic charge cables.
I exchanged my Paperwhite Signature Edition for the Kobo Libra 2 primarily for ergonomic reasons + easier sideloading. Have not looked back since. If ergonomics are important to you I don’t recommend the latest PW.

My Kindle paperwhite (last gen) is turning pages by itself, opening settings and the Kindle store. It's basically unusable in this state. Anyone heard of this or know a fix? Tried factory resetting but to no avail.
I'am getting a kindle paperwhite in a few weeks. Everyone i spoke to told me that the Tolino Vision 6 is better than the kindle. I couldn't find a video comparing these devices. Tolino offers supposedly more books than Amazon. Do you know something about the Tolino Vision 6?
I presume you live in a country where German is a dominant language. Tolino devices are rebadged Kobos that run Android instead of the Kobo firmware. I would recommend getting a Kobo instead, personally. The Vision 6 in particular is just the Libra 2.
There are alternatives to holding the Kindle, such as setting it on a tablet pillow or a lapdesk, and for these, the flat design of the Paperwhite is more ergonomic than the Oasis.
I still need to travel with three types of cable. Apple, USB C, and micro USB for my wife’s old Kindle, her Bluetooth headphones, and portable keyboard for her iPad. I don’t see a future where one cable fits all. I don’t have an issue holding the Kindle in one hand. Lower corner in the crook of my palm, bottom edge resting on pinky, with other three fingers for support on back, and thumb to turn page. Thumb can also hold bezel as needed.
USB C is the standard. New devices do not support micro USB. I use USB C for my phone, wireless earbuds, wireless keyboard, wireless mouse, thunderbolt monitor, audio interface, external storage, even my vape. All Apple has to do is change their iPhones to USB C and their entire lineup of devices would support USB C. One cable fits all is literally the future.
