    Your going to love them! They are so much fun to watch. They hop around like their happy and Whenever I bring them sand they just dive in their and start rolling around. They like to hide under branches and hay🌾 and it’s so much fun looking for their eggs. It’s like an Easter egg hunt every day!! I just love my quail. I’m looking forward to seeing more videos of your little birdies...🐣💛

    Hay there, I've been hatching quail for 10 years, i always give 3 days for hatching, often i get a 2nd wave of hatching, i remove the 1st bunch as quick as i can at about 35 hours then give another 35 hours, last hatch i put in 40 had 28 hatch by day 16 then i had a further 6 hatch by day 19, we use the quail 4 ways, we eat the eggs we eat the meat, boil eggs and crush them for the chooks and we use older eggs in the garden, they have the most use in our homestead, we incubate every 20 days, we never run out of meat or eggs, quickest meat production on any farm, eggs are healthier for you, meat is healthier for you but both carry similar nutrition per 100gm as chicken, all the very best Margie

    I've raised them for years. I haven't been able too the past few years. I miss their sounds. If you have an abundance and get crazy with them...pickle the eggs...they are the best!

    I also follow coturnix corner and when he takes out the egg turner at day 14 he places a shelf liner in the incubator . It helps the chicks to walk and keeps them from getting splayed legs. He also has a wealth of info on quail in his videos. Thank you both for allowing us into your daily life on the homestead.

    I can’t believe I just recently found your channel, it’s so perfect for me! I’ve been wanting to learn more about veggie crops since I’ve done mainly flowers and a couple basic fruits/veggies, and the step-by-step instruction you provide are above and beyond! Also, my mom is from Taiwan, and my dad is from about 45 minutes west of Tallahassee! It’s like I’m learning from both sides of my family with you and Nancy ha ha! I’ve lived out west for years though, and now I’m trying to learn to garden in the desert, which is a challenge lol. Finding you all is a literal God-send! Thank you for blessing us all by passing on your wisdom to us! God Bless you guys! 🐣🥰🙏🏼🥬

    I loved watching this. Using the styrofoam incubators in my opinion is very hard. Their is just so many variables that can affect your hatch rate. I've used one with only an egg Turner and had about a 70% rate and I about fell out because it was that good. In may I had 2 polish frizzle chickens get too hot and they sat on 16 eggs. I was working alot and didn't really notice they were sitting. What a surprise I got! Good luck with the quail I'll be watching. God bless y'all!

    My wife and I have been watching your videos and have wondered a few things. I grew up in the Florida Panhandle so I know what you have to deal with. What part of Florida do you live in? Why don't you use a cement mixer to mix your soil mixture? On your 4 week pantry we wondered why you didn't put some holes in the bottom of your potato bin drawers to help with air circulation? My dad raised quail. House cats where terrible on the quail. Ended up using hardware cloth instead of chicken wire.

I can't eat them or kill them. I am not sure if I can give them away so people can eat them. I always want to raise quail for egg but this question comes up everytime therefore it has been years I haven't raised any.

    Hi Hollis! I was wondering, would the chicks benefit from having a couple of adult quail around? Who's going to teach them quail life skills? Of course you provide shelter, food, water, temperature regulation to an extent. But what about the subtleties of being a quail that we can't know? They're very cute. It will be nice to see them grow.

    Interesting video.
    I had some chickens (California White Leghorn & Road Island Red) I went on a two day camping trip and when I came home my wife told me that one CWL was sick!
    I got my hatchet, went and looked at the hen. All of its breast feathers had been pulled out and put in a nesting box.
    I tried to find a fertilized egg for her to hatch but here in the city it was not happening.

    We raised quail for a time. It looks like you have a much better system than we did. We found that it's difficult to keep the generator separated without effort. When they interbreed, birth defects show up. In the 3rd generation, usually where their hips are not situated to support their legs at the right angle under the weight load of their body mass, making they sprawl out like frogs. We mostly ate their eggs, and it just became too much work for such a small food volume.

    • @HollisNancysHomestead
      @HollisNancysHomestead  4 года назад +2

      Nancy here I agree it’s a lot of work but with the current food supply chain and lot of people cannot have chicken due to zoning they might be able to have quails. Most important it will provide fresh eggs and some meat. We are blessed to have room for chicken and quails but a lot of people don’t have much space. Blessings 😘
