So the locational bugle calls you mentioned were for the various Royal Marine depots around the UK (when this was written) - they were used to indicate to soldiers that the next bugle call was intended for them, so they were short and easily identifiable once you knew them. They were (variously): Chatham (you did pronounce that right) Plymouth Portsmouth Royal Marine Artillery (separate branches of the Royal Marine Artillery (dressed in blue) and Royal Marine Light Infantry (dressed in red) were maintained until about 1922) Royal Marines School of Music (also in Portsmouth, this call was ceremonial only)
