  • There's been a lot going on in the Slipknot camp over the last few months, from the departures of Craig Jones and Jay Weinberg to the lawsuit with Joey Jordison's estate. Loudwire's Joe DiVita and Lauryn Schaffner wanted to check in with fellow Slipknot fans and have a discussion about all that's happened.

as a person that has loved slipknot for almost 10 years now, (yes i listened to them when i was like 6) seeing the band in this state hurts tbh. seeing a ton of people departing from the band like craig, jay, and chris, it just sucks like hell because slipknot is starting to become a business model. if this keeps happening were probably not gonna have ANY of the original bandmates besides clown and corey. tbh its almost like they are narcissistic man, this just sucks. i hope the band gets their shit together soon before it gets real bad. and i hope this whole joey thing isn't true cause that'll just make me lose all of my respect for corey and clown.

Good question: I haven't paid too much attention for the whole side but I'm aware of what has happened. I acknowledged that Craig left the band, Jay left the band, the whole lawsuit (I'm not sure what happened), saw a meme about how Corey and Clown take leadership of the band, and etc.
Honestly, I'd rather not get into the drama side and instead listen to the music because that's what being a fan is. It's listening to the product and not worrying about people's personal lives. Believe me there are some fanatics out there and they will try to shout into the chamber, but they are coping so hard.

  • @lilithsenesca2535

    Short answer: No
Long answer: Personally, I have loved Slipknot for a long time. It was a band that my dad and I bonded over, they put a voice to things that I couldn't express, they gave me an outlet both emotionally and creatively. So to witness all of this happening especially after the band seemingly coming back as strong as they possibly could when they released the Grey Chapter. From a fans perspective it's a very sad and truly heartbreaking situation. I have really mixed feelings. On one hand I really want to stay a fan and believe that those in Slipknot aren't villainous an there's a valid reason behind everything. I don't want to believe that this band that I hold in such high regard is becoming the very thing they stood against when they started. However, with the decisions that have been made like Joey's firing and Jay's firing, how Slipknot has reacted by staying silent amidst these major issues. It's difficult not to feel betrayed to a degree at least.
Even though Slipknot doesn't have to give an explanation and doesn't necessarily owe one either. I honestly feel that Slipknot owes the fans an explanation because we have supported Slipknot and believed in them for so fucking long. We've become attached to them as a whole as well as attached to specific members. It really is like a divorce or parent abandoning their kid/kids or something. As an example, my mom abandoned me as a child which caused a lot of damage that I still deal with. In those situations there comes a point where all you need to hear is the straight up honest truth behind it no matter how bad it might be. All the drama, the pointing fingers, and all the they said they said bullshit doesn't matter anymore. All you need is closure by knowing the truth which is what I feel Slipknot needs to do with the fans. Give the fans closure on these issues at least then Slipknot as an entity and the fans can both move forward together.

When Joey was let go it sucked, however was always holding out for his return that unfortunately never happened. Personally was hoping at the time they would have Joey and Jay playing together. That is my hope in this situation hope they bring Jay back and perhaps adding another drum kit and drummer into the mix. How awesome this would be. Whoever they actually do bring in will be awesome, after all they have yet to fail to produce.

No, and yes, in my opinion.
It hurts seeing Craig and Jay gone, I really was shocked when they announced Craig’s departure, as I really loved Craig’s personal of speaking nothing, but Jay? Jay man. He is such a great drummer! Filling in for Joey is no easy task, and he did an amazing job at that.
Truth be told, Slipknot was not what it used to be, The End, So Far was not that good of an album, WANYK and The Gray Chapter were really amazing.
I’m both, in denial, and in shock about this situation. No updates from the band regarding new drummer, and will they regain their past glory again? Hope so. Heck, they need to gain their glory back, cuz if they not, it’s over for the band.
Shit, their music helped me control my anger a lot, as I have an abusive family, to control my outbursts against them, and to better myself day after day, so that I can show them what gem they lost.
I hope so Slipknot recovers, but firing Jay? They dug their own grave, and recovering is not gonna be easy for them. Wishing the best for Jay, and the band.

Joey fired: devastated, unsure whether Slipknot deserved my support.
Chris fired: disappointed, pissed, wondering if collapse was imminent.
Craig fired: wtf is even going on?!
Jay fired: I can't do this anymore...

Been listening to them since the beginning, never been interested in their politics/personal lives though. Why do people feel so entitled to an explanation? If they're not happy working together for whatever reason(s) then that's up to them to deal with, not us. Even if the band broke up tomorrow we'd still have their music, that's not going anywhere. Though, obviously, I hope that doesn't happen.

I grew up in Iowa a huge maggot since a child. Slipknot are no longer Slipknot, the last Knot album was All Hope Is Gone. Paul and Joey not being there was enough, Fehn and Jones not being there means that Shaun is the only Original Member left, and in my eyes he doesn't do enough for the writing for them to continue to be Slipknot. Mick being there means the riffs wont fall off, but Slipknot broke up after All Hope Is Gone and they can't be the same band anymore.

As a lifelong fan heres my perspective. When everything you love and everything you stand for seemingly does a 180.. those responsible for their art, cant see the hypocrisy in the growth of a corporate monster. Shawn always said "i wanted to create something greater" his vision came life. He, will probably never have to work a 9-5 again. Sadly at the expense of being a slight parody. "Slow clap" congratulations! Bravo! 🎉 Being comfortable has affronted your credibility fully.
Ill always be a fan for what the knot has always stood for and the art created in previous years will always have its place in hostory. Sadly though, the emotion, the feeling, the tribe.. us maggots.. we no longer have the rotting flesh, the gore that made us alive. Thats what i fear. We can no longer feed.
I hope by some off chance, Those who need to see this do.

I was so depressed man. So frotunately my shweetheart of a woman supported me financially. So I dropped her to and from work every day, a 40 min drive one way. I listened to the 1 and 2 Slipknow albums twice a day! for a bout 11 months. But literally every single day, I thought of suicide and just to end the agony of depression, just gnawing at me, making me feel redundant, pointless, unnecessary. I come from a game design backgroud.
Those albums screamed away all my frustrations, helped me through some fo the most difficult times of my life. This is why Slipknot will always be etched into my brain and my heart.

    Yeah I'm done too.
Met the band in 1999. Noticed over the years lots of dodgy stuff that Clown and Corey were doing, albeit GRADUALLY. Those 2 seemed to be in control from the beginning. They broke many promises over the years. But the last few years are beyond the pale. Ever since the firing of Joey...he was my favourite member. And HOW they did it. And the way they treated Chris...the manager of the band saying he was not in the band, not "a shareholder or owner", but "an employee" ... that is disgusting. And now...Craig...the always loyal silent one. Left for "personal reasons." Maybe. But Chris. Look what Chris found out! He took ages to speak out...but he eventually did last year. I hope Craig does too and gives us his perspective...but given his silent nature it may never come.
This band said from the beginning if it wasn't the original 9, it wasn't Slipknot. They obviously were lying.
I still have love for Corey for many reasons, especially after what he disclosed in the last few years (child sexual abuse, like Chester suffered). But Clown can go **** himself. He always was a business minded weirdo douche in a lot of ways. Fuck Shawn Crahan.

When I last saw them live with cypress hill to me I can see the writing on the wall that their set is just getting weaker with each album they make. WANYK was the first indication. Had some great songs still but just the music direction they went to didn’t connect with me. Although I do appreciate of them tryin something new so it was tolerable. Then the new record came out. Felt like b sides of Vol three and even I have issues with vol three with that sound. Nothing stood out. From that point I decided to not see them anymore. Everyone seems to be fired, released or separated from slipknot. Except Corey and Shawn. Shawn who is the only OG member left now since day one is fair to still be around. But to have Corey to just come in along with his buddy Jim just taking over and now slipknot sounds like stone sour since WANYK came out. To me whatever is going on backstage, the direction slipknot is going does not look good. And with Jay being gone who brought some energy and passion on the drums without all the drugs Joey was doing from what I know Jay doesn’t do was awesome. And then just cut him out the band. That broke the camels back for me to really not see these guys no more. Stone sour took over slipknot is what I’m just seeing and hearing from the music lately.

Slipknot was one of my favorite bands ever, became a fan at 8 years old, Vol 3 was out an my first Slipknot record an I was apart of the ride ever since. That bein said I’m over it, when Paul died it really sucked cause that killed part of the magic, when they kicked Joey out that was really gross an left a bad taste, then when Chris was out that personally got me the worst cause he’s the face of Slipknot to me, an always will be. Now Craig & Jay, give me a break. What happen to the “brotherhood” they are just like KISS at this point. Just end it with a little credibility. The last album was an absolute slap in the face to the fans. Absolute trash if an album. The only Knot record I refuse to buy cause I don’t want that trash. I want them to go away with just a slight bit of class. Almost impossible at this juncture, nobody wants “new” members. We want the 9. The original 9, now obviously 7/9 is all we have living, get that back together and be Slipknot again or go away
