Thanks for detailed review, Jeremy. I have Donner DEP-20, and thinking about upgrading to Roland FP-30X. Is the latter's key action noticeably better than the former's?
Thank you for this review.I bought it to practice as a classical pianist when I am away from home and away from my concert piano. It was unbelivable for me as i tried it for the first time in the store, I knew almost in a moment that this will fit as replacement for a real concert grand with its action.Thoug I tryed many more expensive then this Roland, it gave me near body feeling I have to do with the real piano.
the response of the key is really close to a acoustic piano? Like, im really in doubt about casio 110 and roland fp10 , and besides the sound itself( yes, roland is far way better,) im more concerned about the weight of the key. Because for me is more about improving my tecnic than the sound (i like the casio sound tho) can you tell me your experience as a pianist?
I agree on the missing LCD. But maybe it is just a marketing strategy. But while the Piano Designer app may crash any time, it is not needed at all during a gig. I am surprised that after one year you have not yet discovered the Every Day Piano, which includes hundreds of FP-30X sounds waiting to be played by those who prefer to have an extensive sound library for free. Let everyone be aware that the Everyday Piano app also includes a piano tutorial that may make some piano teachers redundant for some self learning music students. For a snapshot of the configuration and adjustments of a sound patch and whatnot in a set up of a specific song, Yamaha has the features of recording scenes, which are the snapshots I just mentioned. It is always a trade-off game, though. Different key action, sample sounds, for starters Not saying one is better than the other. To me it is a matter of preference, opinion, and needs. Even before buying this board you must have known that Yamaha saves the set ups for a whole gig. set list, and that Piano Everyday gives you more than an LCD and is a robust app. Bluetooth pairing is seamless on the X versions. That page about Bluetooth connectivity issues is there because the manual is the same. Finally, I only comment so as to give the utube audience in general a bit about the facts.
My goal is to write and become a classical pianist I'm taking lessons right now im 27 yrs old this piano was suggested to me by my Teacher . I wanted to hear the sound I dont have the money yet for a concett piano but would love to buy one in the future . But this will do for now
How’s everyone doing? I’m 28, starting my piano journey. I bought the Yamaha EZ300 for my wife 6 weeks ago and she never can play it because I’ve fallen in love with it 🤣
Dear Jeremy, from this review I can decided and made the purchase of my new Roland FP30X. Thank you very much for your orientation videos that help us a lot when we have to make decisions. Congratulations and keep going with this great labor.
I’m only interested in this piano for my DAW because of the keyboard bed / touch quality. So I really appreciate that you spent some time on this topic. Thanks! :)
This is a fantastic review! Very thorough examination of the many pros and few cons with this instrument, along with breaking up the talking with playing snippets of songs perfectly matched with some of the available tones or voices. I was particularly impressed by your ability to use the jazz scat voice to such great effect. I really like this quirky voice, but I have never managed to play it so that the notes resolve at the right time for the rhythm of the song. Now that I’ve heard this I know that it is indeed possible to do, and it sounds amazing, so I’ll keep trying.
I bought my Roland FP-30X a few months ago, and I love it. 90% of the time I just use it for the default piano sound, so I don't need to bother with selecting sounds all the time. When I need something more I just bring my double keyboard stand and my Korg Triton Le keyboard for organ, brass etc. Also, I love the grand piano feel of the keys when I press them. I agree that a screen would have made a huge difference, but I can manage without it. Also would have liked a better volume control. I use the Piano Every Day app, and it has never crashed. Only problem is that my phone needs a good cell service to be able to contact Roland's servers, otherwise my piano won't connect to the phone. But when I have good internet, the app seems to be flawless.
@@tromsooslo6617 If you can afford the extra $400 get rhe RD 88. I plan to get that when I get up to the level of my current studies to play at that level to warrant it. I have had, had at least 4 Roland keyboards, and even more Roland and Boss products. Watch the video reviews for the RD 88, especially the one from Sweetwater. The vast amount of incredible sounds, other features, top tier keys and action, built in speakers, and slim, compact format. To me, it is even more suitable for me, than the much more expensive, heavy and big flagship RD2000. It was an answer to prayers I just thought about would be nice, and they made it. Plus, the Zen Core sound engine from the top of the line Fantom workstation keyboards opens a door to almost limitless sonic capabilities.
I just got mine a week back after seeing your reviews. DGX 670 was better when it comes to functionalities but 3 sensor system, 256 note polyphony, escapism and the tones were miles ahead compared to it. Thank you Jeremy, it's because of you, I am having a digital piano at home!
I have a FP30x my own, but have not understood yet how the 3-sensor system works. If I press too slow, the sensor doesnt get it. And how is it a 3-way sensor? Can you explain me the escapism as well pls? Thx!
@@zjaeger1800 my understanding is that since a single sensor cannot read that many inputs per second, they put 3 of them, making it possible for you to play fast repetitive notes. Also, it is perfectly normal for you to not get a sound output when you press a key too slowly, thats how real pianos work.
I've had this piano for some months now and I'm very happy with it :) I haven't been bothered by any of the negative aspects you brought up, and I think most people who use this as just a digital piano won't be bothered either. Nice review as well again. I appreciated you old review of the fp-30x back when I was looking for a digital piano and I'm sure people who are looking for one right now will appreciate this review as much as I did back then :)
On a side note, speaking of quality headphones that don't break the bank: I did a bit of research while looking for semi open-back headphones and found the AKG K240 which I have been using now for a year and a half, and I love them. They cost me about 55 to 65 euros - I have 2 pairs from different dealers. They have a 3.5mm jack as standard with a screw-on 6.5mm jack in the box - no dangly adapters needed.
Hello, Jeremy. I congratulate you for your videos. I want to tell you that I also have a Roland FP30X and when using a piano sound with the Roland sustain pedal, the piano sounds great. But I have the drawback that the performance becomes very uncomfortable when using the sustain pedal with the Dual sound function. For example when I combine a Piano + String, or a Piano + Pad, when using the sustain pedal the notes of the string or pad sound becomes very long and begin to sound without stopping, When using only the piano sounds there is no problem, but when using pianos + strings or pianos + pads the the sustain pedal dp-2 is almost unusable, and I tried other brand pedals and it is the same. This problem does not happen with Yamaha pianos, since in these pianos the string and pad sounds seems to follow the same sustain as the piano sound. So the solution on my Roland FP30X would be to disable the pedal for the Dual sound but I couldn't do it from the piano using the manual neither from the Roland app installed on my android phone. What do you recommend me do? I would appreciate your help.
Thank you for the great video! Always had an out of tune upright about growing up and after trying this against multiple others in now I’m getting this to finally sit down and learn piano. Been playing guitar for about 9 years and have always fancied learning another instrument. No clue where to start but let’s go !
Jeremy this was an excellent review! You intelligently provided us with the pros and cons and have made it that much easier for us to make a decision! I wish all reviews were like yours! Keep up the awesome work! Thank you! Anwar
The only problem I have with this piano is that the notes fade out too quickly. On a grand piano, a note sustains for a very long time so long as you press it down. On the FP30X, it only lasts a few short seconds. So if you're playing a song with two tied whole notes, expect the second bar to be quiet.
Thanks for mentioning this. My Roland FP-7 had the same issue. It's called "decay" and is only somewhat masked by the damper pedal. Quite annoying. Wish there was a way to at least adjust the decay so it's mimics an acoustic.
@@risingabove58 But wouldn’t the same thing happen with an acoustic if you didn’t use the damper pedal? Damper pedal DP-10 is available, excellent quality, and works with the FP30x.
I've no idea why the Roland App is so buggy as well as the Bluetooth connection. There really is no excuse why they don't develop the app perfectly, it may have lost them many sales, such a shame for such a great piano. Roland, please sort it out, it is to everyone's benefit.
I think what you ment to say when you said double escapement is let-off. The let-off is the littel bump you feel before hitting the bottom of the key caused by some sort of mechanism that releases the hammer after hitting the string. On the other hand, double escapement inables the hammer to reset quickly without the key returning to it's full resting position. You are right about the double escapement only being available on grand pianos and, as for the let-off all acoustic pianos whether upright or grand have let-off🎹🎶
I'm having a sort of "midlife crisis" now getting close to 50 and as I've never learned to play an instrument properly despite being very fond of different music genres, now is the time to put this on my bucket list of things to do before it's too late. Learning to play guitar is the secondary choice (I'm saving this for 2023), while learning to play the piano is the first choice. I saw the Roland FP30X used in a piano tutorial on RUclips not long ago and I actually purchased one just a week ago without checking the competition 😄. It could have been a beginner mistake right off the bat, but the more I'm learning from the different reviews I feel confident I could have done a lot, lot worse. Thanks for the thorough introduction; I'm hoping to be using the app a lot when the setup is all done, so I'm a bit worried about the reported issues of a buggy and slow user interface. However, I see the Roland Piano App was updated on October 27th this year *with* bug fixes, so I'm hoping they have addressed all of your concerns.
I taught myself to play piano in my forties. The FP30X is way better than what I had when I started. Don't even worry about the app......just use the default piano sound and concentrate on learning how to play....,.technique, theory etc....
Thanks everyone about the keyboard comments on how it feels. I have a Yamaha DGX-660 and that is one thing I don't like is the keyboard is slick. 😀 I did order a Roland FP-30X, thanks to the review and comments. I am keeping the DGX, it still a decent keyboard. Jeremy, you Rock!
Thank you for showing the action on the keyboard up close! And for explaining it is a heavy action like a grand, not an upright. I've heard this one feels great by someone I trust, but this really helps!
Roland has been my longtime favorite and preferred keyboard brand, but it comes at a cost for the the best. Of course Yamaha, Korg, Nord, etc., have awesome flagship keyboards, but Roland has cutting edge technology, and they has so much products out there, not just keyboards, and have been around for a long time, like their famous solid as a tank Boss guitar effects pedals. But, Yamaha and Casio now has great stuff for lower prices.
@@jjacob25101 each brand and range has its advantages. IMO, Roland supplies great actions at each pricepoint. Its sounds may seem less "realistic" (than those of some other brands) at least to absolutists, but they work brilliantly on stage. I would seriously consider getting a Roland RD whatever if I did more gigs requiring a bone fide stage piano. Meanwhile, the FP-30/60/90X range may be outclassing Yamaha's P series. Yamaha needs some fresh models to catch up.
@@Zoco101 Agreed. Roland 's FP series is very goid, especially the FP-90/90X, but one thing Yamaha and Casio does is offer great things for a lower price fir the masses. Sound is subjective, and so is key action and such for those trained and accustomed to that kevel, but lots of others, it's whatever works for them. I can imagine even though I haven't gone the route otvthise traditional classic pianists, if I have decent keyboards, I would be kinda pucky on what I have to play elsewhere, but sone make do. And then there's people like Yohan Kim that has the traditional training to play top tier concert grands, and everything else. He plays a Jawai grand, but plays lots of the Roland keys because hevis their ambassador for Korea, but he plays a Moog and other inatruments, too, at an unbelievable level of excellence, but he plays the Roland Go:Keys and the 37 mini key JD-Xi just as well as the pro level instruments. And Masataka Kono makes the $100 Yamaha PSS-A50, Reface CP with 37 Mini Keys, Casio CT-S1 and Yamaha PSR-E373 just as well. Like I said before, at this present time, we are the winners, because we have such a diverse choice of instruments with different features at different price leveks, and people that help us discern what is best for us. Some of us play just for enjoyment, and not as a vocation or side job, or on church worship teams, and such. But the bottom line is, music was made originally to praise God and uplift our spirits and a form if self expression, and it if positively benefits you, that's what most important, at whatever level you play, from a child, to elder playing simpke tunes from old school lesson and music books, to prolific extraordinary superstars, these keyboards is just a tool to convey them. Professionalsije Masataka Kono can make that cheap PSS-A50 siund great, even without top tier sounds and mastery of all the different features.
@@jjacob25101 Masters performing on cheap instruments? At first it can work. The worst thing about playing a cheap/poor instrument isn't how you sound to others, it's how you sound to yourself. After a while it can demoralise you (assuming you have the skill to require a better instrument) and then your performance suffers. How soon others realise this depends on many factors. I'm still very happy with my Yamaha P-255. I think it is/was the best of the P series, but sadly it is no longer made. Maybe I don't need or deserve anything better, but I have to acknowlege Roland getting the advantage on portable pianos.
@@Zoco101 I'm talking about these super musicians that have a whole audio arsenal, some that maybe ate sponsored, provided for their use, etc. But yeah, Yohan Kin makes many videos with different keyboards, some with not that cheap of an instrumunt like the Roland JD-Xi, but has no problem playing the light action 37 mini keys as prolific as a full weighted top tier grand piano. I'm fine with semi weighted synth keys, but would like a Roland RD 88, if I had room or ready for it. I would probably put it at our church.
Hello Dear Jeremy ! Still THANK YOU so much for all your activ'on your channel ! After passing so much time on your pages.. so i bought 'my' Roland FP-30X, and now after a little more from 1 Year, i do like a lot ! Next step will be - modestly - interfacing with a Daw Studio. Positiv after all you have explainned : important, i do enjoy for sure the feeling when contact the keys to play them. Upgrade : i think for Roland under your advice should be a little screen like a smartphone for example when pairing with an other interface using BT. Also the 'sound' switch controler to manage the volume should be more 'progressive'. From external, sometimes i can-not pair the BT Piano Partner II so the apps goes flawless. See you ! TjM
Wonderful demo! Very clear; support is essential. The 60X in my cart has the same caution as the one I attach to the guitarist in U2; expect delay. Thank you,
Thank you for your beautifully presented videos Jeremy! 🙏 I bought this one to use as my practice piano and 88-key midi monster for ny home studio about 2 years ago and have much fondness for it. I still haven't gotten the bluetooth or app to connect yet but hey! I am more than happy with the gorgeous feel and key weight of this thing. Thanks again!
Finally had a Roland FP-30x show up at a local music store about 3 weeks ago and got to try it out. The textured keys are so nice, what a great feel. The Key action is really nice too, not as heavy as my old Yamaha with GHE action. I thought the audio could have been a little better. I understand the FP-60x has a better speaker layout. I'm trying to decide between the FP-30x and the FP-60x. I need additional sounds (patches, tones, voices, etc.) for recording. If I go for a FP-30X, I will get a Yamaha PSR to make up for the additional sounds. Thanks for the follow up review, and for the accessory gear recommendations. Good Stuff!
@Frank_in_NY Did you decide? The FP-30X is good (I've tested) but I'd opt for the FP-60X, even though it is a lot heavier to carry. Hmmm, GHE action! Did you have a P80? I did and do, but I play a P-255 now, with a GH action. I can't decide which action I prefer, but they are both quicker than the GHS, still found on Yamaha DPs up to €1k. GHS is a bit sad IMO. The P-255 sounds are mainly much better than on the P80, and so far, I prefer them to the P-515 sounds too. The FP-60X should outshine my P-255.
@@Zoco101 Hi Mike...You nailed it! I do have a Yamaha P80. I agree with you on the FP-60X over the FP-30X. I'm disappointed that the FP-60X is so much heavier, but it offers so much more. In my mind decided on it. The reason I haven't purchased one is supply chain issues. There are none around to be had. In the interim I've been revamping some of my guitar gear. I've sold some nice gear I had, and purchased a Boss Katana 50 MKII Amp (Sounds great plugging in a Keyboard too!). I waited 4 months to get a PRS Zach Myer SE Guitar, just received it 02/09/22. Who knows, while I wait for Roland to start delivering, something new may come from Yamaha. You have a excellent board with the P-255, make great music my friend.
Thanks for your great reviews! My main problem with current Roland and Yamaha models is the case depth. I recently upgraded from my old FP3 to the FP 30x and found because it’s 6 inches deep it’s too high to play on my stand. If I lower the stand then it hits my knees. I am an average height person. Does anyone else have this problem? The standard piano height from floor to top of white keys should be around 28 inches(according to sources). So I have to now get either get the Casio PX S3100 with limited key action because it’s only 4 inches deep or keep the FP 30x which is too high too play.
I don't know what type of stand you're using, but if you were using the X stand that crosses on the middle that could be a problem, and other stands like the z stand or the furniture stand for the piano could solve the problem. Also use an appropriate chair for playing, neither too high or too low. If these don't help I would just adapt by stretching my legs out instead of sacrificing for worse piano actions
I had the same problem with my z stand. I ended up removing the wheels and adding an inch of wood between the Roland and the stand to get the right height for me. Ugly but it works and is stable.
I ordered a new FP10 in the UK in January 2024, which is still "in transit from Roland" in April. A fact which is killing my local music store. I have since purchased an early and much abused FP30 used. Despite it's tough history and battle scars, it still sounds amazing. It has all the irritations you mentioned and needs a re-grease of the pivots but the build quality inside is fantastic. The metronome is limited, even with the app, which is also limited and very "millennial". in the interface. Contacting Roland is a non-starter- no phone number or email is currently available; not even a useless chatbot. but I would still buy another.
Hi Jeremy, I still cannot decide between these two pianos: Roland FP-30X and Kawaii ES120. I know that it comes to a matter of preference but I can't try them out since we don't have any local stores selling them. I've seen comments from both sides like mostly the fp30x has better action and the es120 has better sympathetic resonance/better sound to it but I still can't decide. In your opinion, which piano should I go for?
I guess it's not very helpful, but he can't decide for you. You need to think about what is more important to you. Is the superior sound of the ES120 more important to you than the action of the FP-30X. If you are likely to be a electric only player then I would go for the ES120 and if you want to progress to an actual acoustic piano then the FP-30X may be a better option. Having said that you can't really go wrong with either option.
Dear Jeremy - I am loving your channel and this particular video gave me the urge to let you know that - though it may be inconvenient to lug around - they sell portable power boxes and that would somewhat make up for the lack of a battery-power option. Thank You for all of the hard work you have placed into enlightening us fellow aspiring musicians. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Hi, Jeremy! Today I have just bought my first keyboard, a Yamaha I500, because I am Spanish and I love India and indian music. It's so beautiful. I can't play the piano but I hope I will learn now thay I have that beautiful instrument at home. I've been playing with it for two hours and I am delighted. I love your videos. Take care
I bought this after checking out all the reviews. I think your reviews are very good and fair. The action is lovely! I will get a pair of monitor speakers but it still sounds good enough for the target buyer at that price point. Again your negative points at the ends are very valid but I don't think the target buyer will care. I quite like the minimalist top with no screen. I think I would rather use my phone than have a small screem. Thanks for the info.
I'm considering the Roland FP-30X at 699.99, the Casio S360 at 549.99, along with the Alesis Prestige Artist at 499.00. At this point if you just told me which one to pick, I would pull the trigger. Just personal home use advanced hobbyist, no gigging, but I have amps if need be, played along with a garage band. I like playing around with different sounds and rhythms as well, action and quality piano sound are important to me. I don't want it to feel like a toy.
Hi Jeremy, Thank you for a real thoughtful review of this piano. Watching your reviews gave me the inspiration to buy the FP30, the x version was not out yet. I am thinking of going from the fp 30 to the fp 30x because of the additional features it has over the fp 30. It would be nice to have that control. However I use it just to learn piano and it does the task well. Really love the 256 polyphony, but I can get that from using a DAW and external speakers attached to the computer speakers. Issues I have with the fp 30 and same applies to the fp 30x is the stand and the pedals. The pedal are physically associated with the stand and are not free floating. They are on a bar that is screwed to the stand. The workaround was to buy the 3 pedals on the bar then chop off the excess ends of the bar so they look like the ones you can purchase for the fp 60x. Note the fp 60x petals are not compatible with the fp 30x piano. Using MPF board screw that to the bottom of the pedals so they are stable on carpet. There are RUclips videos on how to do the conversion. The Roland pedals are excellent and it is worth the effort. Maybe I did it backwards I had good quality stand already with wheels, good for portability. Height of the keyboard and the stand were difficult to get the right height. On my non Roland stand I ended up ditching the wheels and using 1 inch blocks under the keyboard to get the right height so my arms are parallel to the floor. The metal z stand I have is strong enough where I can just drag it on the carpet causing no damage without removing the keyboard. I live in a small apartment where space is critical at times. Love the piano, nice solid feeling. Again thanks for the many reviews. Cheers.
You may also combine 2 tones/voices from each bank at the same time. Just press the Piano + E.Piano, or Piano + Other, or E.Piano + Other, and you get 2 tones/voices at once.
What about the Roland 10? Or, are there any good digital pianos that are good for beginners, but also, good for the long run? For when the beginner is gradually becoming a pro?
Jeremy thank you for the review. I have played piano professionally and I need a Roland for my own enjoyment and to record piano with the other instruments I play and singing. I play on a Schimmel chamber grand and need a practice/recording instrument. I was thinking of RD88 until hearing about this one. Thank you for the video. The instrument is beautiful. I think it would be good for now. What do you think? Will this use bluetooth headphones? Does the RD88 have more options? I want as many options as can be found $1200 and under with most realistic action and sound for piano. I play mostly classical, jazz, and standards. Thank you!
After watching many of your reviews and this one, I will purchase this Roland FP-30X over the new Kawai ES-120, all in all for me the Roland seems to be the way to go.
Between Roland fp30x and Casio Ap470 which one recreate more accurately a concert piano, sound, feel of the key, etc. or another that you recommend what I want is a concert piano embedded in a digital piano 😅 thanks for your advice great channel
@Jeremy See, thank you for uploading this video. I got my Fp30x recently and I connect it to Garageband on my iPad. However, I can’t seem to turn the internal sound off. No matter what tone I select on GarageBand, it plays underneath the piano sound. Calling out to all wonderful viewers of this channel for a solution!!
Look at the owners manual. Somewhere in there you will see a setting that is called "local control". The default setting is on, switch it to off and the keyboard will make no noise and only play the iPad voice.....
Hi Jeremy, Thank you for always sharing good videos. I just got FP-30X :) and it awesome as you reviewed. At 7.17 you mentioned that FP-30X can transfer its sound to iPad, I would like to know which cable you use to connect FP-30X to iPad? Thank you so much.
I kind of lost interest in Roland when the FP-10 immediately sold out, and they didn't replace it when they brought out the 'X' series. In a way, I can understand them doing that since the FP-10 was probably taking a big bite out of the FP-30's market since it offered most of the same features at a significantly lower price. Still, it was a bargain that got away from most of us.
Jeremy is the best for explain everything! Thanks of him advice i buy the fp-30x for muy 7 years old daugther for learning piano. Dank je wel Jeremy, doe zo voort!!!👍
Based on your review I have ordered the fp 30x, however I'm a bit concerned, just seen other reviewers saying that the action becomes noisy/clunky, esp black keys, after just few months of playing, have you experienced this?
I had a Roland FP4 and the keys clicked on that after a few months. It was due to lack of grease under the keys - or the grease needed redistributing back in place. I found it annoying as it continued to happen so I sold it. My old Yamaha p125 did not suffer from this at all.
I had two Roland digital pianos (FP-10 and FP-30X) and a MIDI controller with PHA-4 action. All of them developed key clicking noise after 4-5 months. How is the action of your FP-30X? Ps. I was also bothered by relative heaviness of PHA-4 (64g for C4)
I used a yamaha p-45 for a year and nothing changed , the action was good as new. I know the dynamics are not the best and only 64 poliphonic but it did its job well. If there's a clicking noise then thats a really bad sigh for the roland. Can you tell me is there something else that popped up as you were playing the fp30x? Im really considering buying something of a similar class but I don't wan't to be dissapointed by a degradation of the action and development of clicks and pops.
@@radoslavdragnev8797Someone said the heavy clicking sound of the keys will disappear again with the time (not completely tho). I bought a fp30x which will come tomorrow and I hope that I’m not getting disappointed😂
Thanks for the excellent and thorough review. Any chance you could add that battery-powered recommended piano you mentioned would be in the video description?
I bought an FP30x and your comment about its heavy reliance on the app is a worry. And also worth noting that the current app you describe as buggy is relatively new and far better than the original app a few years earlier!
Thank you very much for helpful video (I am jumping over your various videos currently). At 04:28 for example there is tablet (or eink-reader?) visible with some note sheet reader app? What is the name of this app? Thank you in advance for your help.
Thanks for the video! I'd like to ask an advise; I basically only play classical music. I had a "real piano" until I moved and now I can only buy an electric piano, but don't have any experience with it. Which type would you recommend? One of these two? Casio (in this case which type?) Another one? I can't spend a huge amount of money, so I need something that costs more or less like these two! And I need something that feels similar to the acoustic piano and that is suitable for classical music. Thanks! 🎹
Purchased it last week. As soon as my boy played it he said most of keys were out of tune. I used an app to test and to my surprise he was right. Anyone has the same experience?
Where you bought it? I'm looking for a page to buy it but in all of them it appears that the product is out of stock, I already checked through Amazon and several local online music stores ... I appreciate your answer
Jean Yang: Piano tuning is not a precise science. There is creativity in it too. Furthermore, there are alternative tuning systems. Perhaps your FP-30X is not set to the default equal temperament (but a slightly stretched) system. Do not rely on digital tuners - piano tuning is way too sophisticated. Also it may be that your son has experienced a markedly different tuning system. In my experience, Roland pianos tend to feature a lot of note decay. This creates a bitter-sweet sound soon after striking the note. This may leave any digital tuner confused. You can probably alter this sound if it bothers you, since Roland pianos feature lots of DSP on the individual tones. One of the reasons I like Yamaha sounds/tones is that they seem good to me straight out of the box.
I have the original fp30 and needing to connect the phone to te keyboard to acess its full potential sucks so much that im now looking for a new piano.
For a comparable price, why wouldn’t you go for the Yamaha DGX 670? DGX 670 has Way more features than the FP30x with no App required. Polyphony same at 256. 88 key Hammer action keyboard. What would I be missing out on if I choose the DGX 670 over the FP30X? Maybe some subtle differences? Or maybe the target customer for the FP30X just wants a simple, but excellent piano and does not want the distraction of the hundreds of features it lacks compared to the DGX670?
Since you did not address my question about what I might be missing out on by choosing the DGX 670 over the FP30X, I’m guessing you agree that the FP30X is a poor option unless I want a simple, piano only device.
I made these 2 videos 7 months ago, knowing you will ask me these today. ruclips.net/video/IdsQ9gn2mKM/видео.html ruclips.net/video/LokudMCaVcE/видео.html
Piano Partner 2 in not compatible with Roland FPX Digital Piano series / models. I have FP60X, and it's getting complicated accessing so many tones by using +- buttons. So can you please check from your side and confirm how to access extended tones, Rhythm accompaniment etc. through Piano Designer app?
Hi Jeremy, Thank you for your review. I seriously consider buying this toy. But I have a couple of questions for you so I can clear my mind. I read somewhere that the middle C needs a weight of 65 grams when going down. Isn't that value too big even for a grand piano? Will this heaviness make my playing clumsy? Thanks in advance
Only one day after purchasing the Roland 30X...I find out.... I can not play the audio of my music videos through the 30X for use with headphones As being able to practice quietly with headphones was the main reason to buy an electric, this kind of sucks! If a third party app exists that allows me to do this ? Please Help!
Which would you say is better Mr.See? The Roland fp30x or the Casio px s1100? They are the same exact price but I don't know which one is better. If I'm about to pay that much money for one I wanna know which is better.
Can someone tell me honestly how good/bad the onboard speakers are, if I'm just playing standard piano at home? I've had a Korg for years with the speaker grille on top and I love the sound and power of them. Never needed to go above the halfway mark with volume. I'm keen to get a Roland but the downward facing speakers are putting me off
I bought it about three weeks ago. Great feel great sample, but some keys after some days started to make plastic noise that comes and goes. a problem i did not had with my other brands pianos i owned.
Thank you for the great review. I guess I will consider not buying this piano, specially because of its absolute dependence on the app that is too lame to work. Now, after one more year, do you have any better suggestion in the same price range?
7:36 Can you explain to me how to get an mp3 without external audio interface by connecting the piano via usb cable? I only managed to get a midi file. Thank you.
Roland fp 30 is my favourite digital piano, yet I'm still waiting for my parents to buy it,been practicing for 2 years now on my phone,I've also practiced on real piano ofc :D,not that my dad can't afford,he just kept comparing me to other pianists...
@@personnerson7611 Honey are you old enough to work a part time job? You can do lawn mowing or cleaning peoples garages and stuff and you don't have to be 16 to do that. Also keep in mind you'll want a set of headphones and a stand for your keyboard. You could try facebook market place maybe to find a used one to start with and maybe further down the road you could get something nicer. Don't worry about being compared to other pianists they may have had lessons or training and been playing for years. I was unable to get piano lessons as a child so now I'm an old lady of 62, bought myself the keyboard I wanted and am doing online lessons. There are a lot of good lessons available for free on you tube. Or some basic piano books on amazon. Don't give up if this is really what you want, OK????
Can you please check the acoustic sound for me. Is the sound same when you press down a key and hold it as when you play the same key with the sustain pedal? If not, the acoustic piano is NO GOOD.
I read somewhere that the clicking noise comes from the lubricant used in the keys. Apparently tilting the board 90 degrees ( key facing up) and tapping the key should spread the lubricant, and stop the noise. Hope this works for you.
Excellent presentation, Jeremy (and what a voice, dude!)...Thanks for all the information which wass greatly appreciated. Mainly just need a controller with a great keybed (RHA-4), and this keyboard will do the job perfectly, since the similarly priced MIDI controller M-Audio Hammer88 has a crap keybed with keys that have WAY too much lateral motion that I 'broke' an Eb within weeks... Roland ALWAYS made good keyboards (started with a JUNO-106)... STAY FAR AWAY FROM ANYTHING M-AUDIO...
Hello! I have been watching a lot of your videos to help me pick out an affordable key board. I was hoping you could take some time to answer some questions. The only thing that concerns me is the app problems you mentioned. Have there been any more problems or concerns with the app? Should this deter me away from purchasing this piano? Thank you!

Thanks for detailed review, Jeremy. I have Donner DEP-20, and thinking about upgrading to Roland FP-30X. Is the latter's key action noticeably better than the former's?
which of these has the battery option?
Because for me is more about improving my tecnic than the sound (i like the casio sound tho)
can you tell me your experience as a pianist?
But this will do for now
Me too bro im on the same path
I’m 28 but same
Did you buy it? How is your experienxe so far?
Great job bro! Please keep us updated! I BELIEVE IN YOU!!! ❤❤❤ that’s also one of my goals!
Would you suggest buying a RD88 or RP501 , when compared to FP30X ??
@@jjacob25101 I think fp 30x and rd88 has same key action. Are not?
I just got mine a week back after seeing your reviews. DGX 670 was better when it comes to functionalities but 3 sensor system, 256 note polyphony, escapism and the tones were miles ahead compared to it. Thank you Jeremy, it's because of you, I am having a digital piano at home!
Bro you ordered from where?? And for how much you bought it
The DGX-670 has its merits, but I'll never buy anything with a GHS action. It's no good for fast licks.
Thank you for watching and for your kind compliments.
Same, in fact i got mine delivered yesterday, the review helped me choose it and i’m really happy with my purchase :)
@@JeremySee Did you have issues with clicking keys? Mine started clicking after 2 weeks.
Thank you, your comments help
On a side note, speaking of quality headphones that don't break the bank:
I did a bit of research while looking for semi open-back headphones and found the AKG K240 which I have been using now for a year and a half, and I love them.
Thank you!

I heard it is a common problem with Roland's FP10 and FP30 that the keys start making a clicking noise. Is this still true with the newer models?
The only problem I have with this piano is that the notes fade out too quickly. On a grand piano, a note sustains for a very long time so long as you press it down. On the FP30X, it only lasts a few short seconds. So if you're playing a song with two tied whole notes, expect the second bar to be quiet.
That's why it's been recommended to buy sustain pedals. It's still a digital piano, not an acoustic one
Thanks for mentioning this. My Roland FP-7 had the same issue. It's called "decay" and is only somewhat masked by the damper pedal. Quite annoying. Wish there was a way to at least adjust the decay so it's mimics an acoustic.
Maybe it can be tweaked in the app settings...
@@risingabove58 But wouldn’t the same thing happen with an acoustic if you didn’t use the damper pedal? Damper pedal DP-10 is available, excellent quality, and works with the FP30x.
Some brands like dexibell sample each note for 15 seconds… but be prepared to pay an extra grand, or torrent pianoteq pro lol
Best of luck~
Roland is really a secret player getting amazing stuff to the market when Yamaha and Casio competition is the hot topic
The 60X in my cart has the
same caution as the one I attach to the guitarist in U2; expect delay. Thank you,
Hi Jeremy, thank you for this review! Do you know if the single note tuning transfers across midi when using with a VST in a DAW please?
Thank you for your beautifully presented videos Jeremy! 🙏 I bought this one to use as my practice piano and 88-key midi monster for ny home studio about 2 years ago and have much fondness for it. I still haven't gotten the bluetooth or app to connect yet but hey! I am more than happy with the gorgeous feel and key weight of this thing. Thanks again!
I received mine in today. Best purchase ever.
@@homburg_mediaThank you! I went with the FP-30X since I would want to experience that acoustic like feeling
Take care
Great choice! Have fun.
@@JeremySee Thank you, Jeremy. Your channel is an inspiration.😊🌹
Cheers.
Really pleased to hear about that smaller headphone jack. Rummaging for an adapter can be a right pain
Since you’ve owned this and the Kawai ES120, would you recommend one over the other for a beginner-intermediate player who prefers classical and jazz?
We have the Roland FP30 and we love it! 🙂❤✌ Thank you!
You may also combine 2 tones/voices from each bank at the same time. Just press the Piano + E.Piano, or Piano + Other, or E.Piano + Other, and you get 2 tones/voices at once.
Between roland fp30x, kawai es120 and korg D1, what do u think which of them has the best key action and piano sound?
What about the Roland 10?
Or, are there any good digital pianos that are good for beginners, but also, good for the long run? For when the beginner is gradually becoming a pro?
Thanks for the video! Please tell me, is it possible to play a saxophone sound using a special app? Does it sounds good enough?
Thank you Jeremy. A very honest to the point review, I would love to hear your take on the bigger brother FP 60x.
I am trying to make the same decision! I was able to try the Roland in person but not the Kawai. Was there a deciding factor for you?
Which one would you choose, this Fp30X or the korg D1?? thanks
Hi Jeremy,
Thank you for always sharing good videos.
Roland fp30x is EXCELLENT and a great outsider among portable digital pianos....and not only!!!!😊😊😊
Jeremy is the best for explain everything!
Thanks of him advice i buy the fp-30x for muy 7 years old daugther for learning piano.
Dank je wel Jeremy, doe zo voort!!!👍
Great choice. have fun!
No doubt he's a real good explainer..but the con is that he doesn't really response to one's comment🤷🏻♀️
@@angelinasimte are you paying him ??
Based on your review I have ordered the fp 30x, however I'm a bit concerned, just seen other reviewers saying that the action becomes noisy/clunky, esp black keys, after just few months of playing, have you experienced this?
I find that all actions become a bit clunky with time. PHA4 is a well established action, and a very good one. I hope it keeps you happy.
@@katha7068ya te llegó?

Thanks for the excellent and thorough review. Any chance you could add that battery-powered recommended piano you mentioned would be in the video description?
hi Jeremy...thanks for the update...I just wnated to know if you experienced any key mechanical sound/noise recently?
Well done, I just purchased this keyboard. :)
Thanks for your very helpful video. Wishing you all the best!
How well does it work as a midi keyboard with its tripple sensor?
@@SanTorr I got it from bestbuy
For digital piano is very important few things - key trisensor, high polyphony and good playing...
I have the original fp30 and needing to connect the phone to te keyboard to acess its full potential sucks so much that im now looking for a new piano.
Hey! For a beginner which piano is better? Yamaha PSR-E373 vs Casio CT-S300
Yamaha psr e373..go for it dude!
If you are interested mainly in "piano playing" go for Roland FP10.
Which model does have the Best sound of classic piano: 10, 30, 30x?
For a comparable price, why wouldn’t you go for the Yamaha DGX 670?
DGX 670 has Way more features than the FP30x with no App required.
Polyphony same at 256. 88 key Hammer action keyboard.
What would I be missing out on if I choose the DGX 670 over the FP30X?
Maybe some subtle differences?
Or maybe the target customer for the FP30X just wants a simple, but excellent piano and does not want the distraction of the hundreds of features it lacks compared to the DGX670?
Many people who buy a digital piano never use anything other than the default piano voice. 🥺
I'm loving my DGX-670. Best deal ever!
The FP30x with the stand and the 3 pedals is roughly 900€. Is there a better digital piano for 900€ A Yamaha YPD for instance?
Piano Partner 2 in not compatible with Roland FPX Digital Piano series / models. I have FP60X, and it's getting complicated accessing so many tones by using +- buttons. So can you please check from your side and confirm how to access extended tones, Rhythm accompaniment etc. through Piano Designer app?
Awesome playing and selection of songs! 🔥🔥🔥
Hi. How would you compare this model to the Kawai ES-120? Especially in sound and performance quality.
Kawai es120 has upped their game. It has caught up with Roland FP30x at lower price
No Roland is still superior
You know so much, I thought I'd ask: are there any weighted keyboards with less than 88 keys? (for space reasons)
Which would you say is better Mr.See? The Roland fp30x or the Casio px s1100? They are the same exact price but I don't know which one is better. If I'm about to pay that much money for one I wanna know which is better.
Thank you so much for the detailed review!
Can someone tell me honestly how good/bad the onboard speakers are, if I'm just playing standard piano at home? I've had a Korg for years with the speaker grille on top and I love the sound and power of them. Never needed to go above the halfway mark with volume. I'm keen to get a Roland but the downward facing speakers are putting me off
Have you tried the FP60x? It has a screen on it. Maybe the phone app isn't needed?
Is the Roland FP-E50 the best piano sound? Is it better than the Yamaha PSR-E473?
Is this somewhat comparable to the Alesis Grand Recital? (In key action cuality and sound)
Thanks! You don´t have any problems with mechanical noisemaking keys?
Super helpful, thank you! And nice voice!
I bought it about three weeks ago. Great feel great sample, but some keys after some days started to make plastic noise that comes and goes. a problem i did not had with my other brands pianos i owned.
Plastic noise as in the clicky/clunky noises that people also mention regarding fp-10?
Same thing for me. Im gonna do a refund for sure
Thank you for the great review. I guess I will consider not buying this piano, specially because of its absolute dependence on the app that is too lame to work.
Now, after one more year, do you have any better suggestion in the same price range?
Love your vids, God bless you and hope to see more videos
Before I buy this piano, I want you guys to tell me if you have faced any problems with it ?
7:36 Can you explain to me how to get an mp3 without external audio interface by connecting the piano via usb cable? I only managed to get a midi file. Thank you.
What song are you playing in the 1976 suitcase demo. That song is stuck in my head now and I can’t think of the name lol
Roland fp 30 is my favourite digital piano, yet I'm still waiting for my parents to buy it,been practicing for 2 years now on my phone,I've also practiced on real piano ofc :D,not that my dad can't afford,he just kept comparing me to other pianists...
You got good skills you deserve a real piano bruh
Good job on this video
Did you have the ''clicking noise'' problem with the PHA-4?
Thanks for the reviews, they're very helpful! :)
The keys on mine works as well as day 1 🙂
@@JeremySee Happy to hear it, thanks for answering! :)
I read somewhere that the clicking noise comes from the lubricant used in the keys. Apparently tilting the board 90 degrees ( key facing up) and tapping the key should spread the lubricant, and stop the noise. Hope this works for you.
Hi thank you very much, one question, Can one make the touch lighter ?
Love this review very much in 2023
By the by how do rhythm accompaniments sound on this one? (acmp with app)
Thank you!
Great video, very helpful, Jeremy, thank you.
