Honestly, if I was Matt, I would have got a chair and beat the everloving fuck out of Bob and then just walked way, quit Tough Enough. Bob's job was to TRAIN someone, not be a bully. Yes, some training requires tough love, so to speak, but Bob wasn't pushing Matt. Bob was abusing Matt. As a wrestler, your job is to protect your fellow opponents, and if you cross that line, you have no business in the business.
I've always said that high school locker room hazing crap gets people hurt. In all sports but especially wrestling. If a veteran hurts a young talent, it comes back around. Then, when they are in a match, that wrestler who was bullied will have the opportunity to lay a move on the veteran and mess up on purpose to injure the veteran. I remember when I was in the drill team in high school. Some seniors used to haze the crap out of the freshmen. Well, once they learned the routine, there was this toss we did with our 9lb pound rifles. Well, wouldn't you know it? The newbie tossed it at an angle and harder, and it hits the guy straight in face, breaking his nose and cutting him and needing stitches. Then afterward we asked him and it was because the senior hazed him and he vowed to get even.

Al Snow might actually be Hardcore Holly's most famous opponent (and vice versa) all things considered. Their hardcore series during the peak in viewership numbers had the it factor
The hardcore title scene in late '98/Early '99 was so much fun. The Road Dogg was getting really over on his own. No idea why swapped Billy Gunn for Road Dogg in the hardcore title picture. It made no sense then or now.
Respects to Al Snow! Just finished watching "Wrestlers" on Netflix and he really seems like such a stand up genuine guy who truly cares about the business and talent involved. He is very knowledgeable, it's fascinating to see how his creative wrestling mind works and how he develops a story. He really has the talents best interest at heart. He's stern (does not take shit) but logical and reasonable as well as open-minded and understanding of his talents perspectives. Most importantly he uses words to teach lessons never hands which says a lot about his character as a human being. On another note Bob Holly truly was a real P.O.S. an insecure little bully who has worse tantrums than a 2 year old and a severe inability to control his emotions. Children are better disciplined and refined than this walking man-child. He's pathetic and this was such a disgusting display.
When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps your favorite head up against the barroom wall, looks you crooked in the eye and asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" Yessir, the check is in the mail."
So I've always been curious. Kurt Angle debuted at survivor series 99. I don't remember the ppv but the following Aug/Sept he became wwf champion. I've always wondered what some of the other wrestlers thought of that. Was there jealousy? Were there guys going "I've been a jobber or mid-carder for years and still not in the main events." Al Snows' comments here leads me to think there was.
Bob actually respected Matt that day because he got up and he shook his hand Bob was thinking to himself all right this kid might have a chance then he saw him crying on TV and was just like oh my God almost puked
What does everybody want? What does everybody need? ... Just Al snow talking straight up and honestly. Al snow is a legend, when mid cards were people's favourite wrestlers
Isn't it generally accepted that Bob Holly is a bullying coward? Beat that young kid up for no reason, then has no issue with Brock Lesnar breaking his scumbag neck. Rude, Haku, Coage or Race this guy Holly definitely ain't!
I thought it was funny when Holly wrestled Haku, and Holly seemed to spend the match flat on his back for Haku, like he was trying to be on his best behaviour for him!!!!!!!! It was funny. ;*D
kenterminatedbygoogle No he didn't. His primary reason for kicking the guy's head in was so he could get a sadistic kick out of abusing someone whilst knowing they won't do shit about it. He used the whole "teaching him a lesson" as a smokescreen. Don't argue that he worked stiff either, he beat the shit out of him, there's a difference. Wrestling people in charge have minds that work and can decipher who's got what it takes and who doesn't without a sadistic bully getting cheap thrills in the process...
That incident never made sense to me. On Day 1 of just about every wrestling school in the country they tell you to develop trust and take care of the people working with you because they're the ones charged with taking care of you. Holly just shits all over that notion.
I remember an interview where Bob Holly said he did that because he was protecting the business. Protecting it from what? Also he said "my blood was boiling." And that he was pissed because he was risking his well being being there from a broken neck. Well had he not sandbagged Brock Lesnar that wouldn't of happened.
Just heard him defend JBL in another shoot and talk about how "Bullying" would toughen up new comers and that they had to pay their dues in the ring, and now he's saying "we all pay our dues somehow and it wasn't right" what a hypocrite.
It definitely got a point, everybody's become so pussified if you're not kissing it somebody's ass you're bullying them if you're too thin-skinned you're not going to make it.
Holly went beyond stiffing him though. He's flat out kicking him hard in the face while he's on the ground. It was gutless and pathetic. Lesnar powerbombing him on his head was the best case of karma ever seen in pro-wrestling.
Gene and Ole Anderson were sadistic bullies, as were other guys in territories. However there were plenty of old timers who were NOT. Working stiff is totally necessary, however cheap shotting and beating the shit out of a rookie is just being a bully and there's no excuse for it. It doesn't help anybody but the tormentor.
Taker is a really good guy, but he takes his job seriously. There's a reason why everyone respects him and he's seen as almost a father figure backstage.

It seems to me that the 2004 Tough Enough contest was the worst. The contests of that were treated really horribly, and not only did Big Show and Kurt Angle treat the contestants horribly, but Al Snow did absolutely nothing about it, and it's winner Daniel Puder never ever had a single one on one match on Smackdown and Raw. Even though Andy Leavine winning the 2011 Tough Enough was also a joke since he did nothing on Smackdown or RAW either, the 2004 Tough Enough thing was brutal.
It's crazy just how carny the business was well into the 2000s. There's a difference between toughening guys up to prepare them for the business and just straight up running them out of the business.
The guy got caught off guard. By the time he realized shit was going down, he was already on the back foot just trying to keep Holly from knocking his block off.
Ok,to alll the people saying...oh why didn't snow step in!! Probably because,A:it might've made the situation worse on Matt. B: there would've went ANY shot,Matt would've had and C: the entire locker room would've turned on al snow! He did what he had to,in the moment. unfortunately that meant doing nothing!
Paying your dues is the points of wrestling to me cuz it always go’s full circle from being a fan to doing seminars with BJ Whitmire Jeff Cobb Matthew ecstatic and Bambi hall You’re always pay your dues even in your last match wrestling is a art of respect
Bob Holly was working for WWE, a company that made millions by disrespecting the business, and he beats the shit out of a guy because he laughed while taking a slam in a practice session because "it disrespected the business". Either he's a hypocrite or a moron
When is Holly going to give Lesner a slap for disrespecting the business?????? NEVER because bullies ALWAYS find a way to tolerate certain people's behaviour, right down to the point where Lesner broke his neck then LAUGHED at him and kicked him in the head...yeah Holly sure does lay a beat down to people who disrespect the business, but only if he knows he can beat them up
I'm not trying to be funny, but I really do think that brutal beating Matt took was the catalyst for his eventual death. It's believed that little things can start the process of something just awakening in your body, whether that be cancer or some other disease, it can only take 1 small or big incident for it to just suddenly get moving. Not saying this is 100% certain of course, but as stated it's well known that physical harm can just start the ball rolling on something that was just dormant inside you. Matt probably would've died from his brain cancer anyways, but this absolutely set the gears in motion way earlier than it was probably anticipating.
I remember seeing a news piece that was done about his treatment where they showed him being sneak attacked from behind on OVW TV and the way it connected looked brutal and I think they inferred that's where the issues actually began

Oh that was that idiot Wendell, he was in season 3 I think, he was messed up bad! Lol

Al Snow is that guy the less you know about wrestling the less you care for him, the more you know about wrestling, the more respect you have for him
I remember Al Snow resorting to working on Tough Enough and becoming a mentor. At the time I wasn’t a fan of this, I was a big fan of his when he was the crazed guy that spoke to manikin heads. But one thing that he couldn’t hide was his care for the younger guys and the up comers. It wasn’t a gimmick, that care was legit and it says a lot considering that Bob Holly was his equal- they were part of the JOB Squad and they fought in the Mississippi River.
Ironically, Bob’s worst experience came at his expense of a rookie, Brock Lesnar who was so much tougher than him both inside and outside of the ring, regardless of being a rookie and regardless of being half his age. That same rookie is one of the biggest stars in the history of the WWE.

This is good stuff. Al Snow interviews well and tells it like it is. Good job Al!
Died - brain cancer - June 29, 2018 (aged 38)
Louisville, Kentucky, U.S.
The saddest part about this "incident" is this was the legacy of both of their lives

When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps your favorite head up against the barroom wall, looks you crooked in the eye and asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" So I've always been curious.

No he didn't.
Why didn't he say this on the show?

I lost all respect for Holly after that.
Al Snow is the only guy giving shoot interviews where I believe 100% every word that he says.
The reason why i dont wrestle anymore
I remember that episode. Who the hell would let someone beat them like that. For a wwe job. Screw that.

Bob Holly just seems like "that guy" who's sole goal in life is to make everyone uncomfortable for some reason.
I knew I could count on the fact for AL Snow to tell it like it is.
From what Bob said in an interview, Matt was acting like a jackass in the ring and Bob said he went in there to teach Matt to respect the business.
Bob Holly was working for WWE, a company that made millions by disrespecting the business, and he beats the shit out of a guy because he laughed while taking a slam in a practice session because "it disrespected the business". Either he's a hypocrite or a moron
tullyDT so when is Holly going to give Lesnar a slap for laughing at him and kicking him in the head after breaking his neck?????
" everybody pays dues, use to anyways, I don't know about anymore these days" true shit, wwe is NOTHING compared to what the wwf was , its soft as fuck
