I really appreciate Al's take on the "no-sell" cancer that has killed Pro Wrestling. I think of Jackie Chan movies when Al talks about in-ring work. Jackie gets over in every movie he's in because he sells the shit out of everything. He also never dominates fights, he gets beat up terribly by the merciless "bad guys", but eventually makes the improbable comeback that we root for. It's incredible that the new gen only sees the big spots, and fails to make the big spots matter.
Really good comment! Yes, I love Jackie Chan movies and that's a big part. He gets hurt and we want to see him succeed and he does it in innovative ways, but he isn't doing it by no-selling what's happening to him. I don't know if Pro Wrestling can do a 'reset' and got back to selling those 8 things so that when the amazing athletes do MORE then it is far more impressive and unique. Maybe not. But ya never know.
All this is true, but it is like the matches would have to be paced right like the old days for it work well. Now it is like a steroid circus drag race that sucks. Selling moves, Jake Roberts and Scott Hall said that to.
"Burying the authority of the ref so heels can't get heat." One of the biggest downfalls of today's pro wrestling. Snow teaching the young kids the lost art of old school pro wrestling. So cool!

@@RobwLPOC so basically working as we know it is really just acting and selling in the ring, putting your opponent over, etc. more so than technical ability. Is that right?
The punch part is dead on like it only works as a dirty finish if you use it like how William regal used to use it. While the ref was distracted he'd pull the old brass knuckles out from his tights, punch the opponent with it then hide the brass and pin him and it'll be all over.
Al Snow was one of the most underrated wrestlers. At the same time he said that he did not understand his gimmick and he did not understand how big he was.
"Every time you throw a punch, you're exposing the business..." I guess Nia Jax was protecting the business when she punched Becky Lynch's face into bloody, broken oblivion.
I wish Al would tell the current roster these things. Most of the current roster doesn't sell properly. Someone will get kicked in the head, and they'll just fall backward instead of holding their head. Or Goldberg or someone will land a spear, and, instead of doubling up or acting winded, the guy will just lay flat on his back like he's dead. Fucking ridiculous.
One Angry Gamer - Yeah, i never really cared about how a wrestler reacted to a goldberg spear because the spear itself was always so brutal. Same with Rhino's gore and any move that causes clear physical harm to a person. When Farooq would get a little guy and throw him in to the canvas like a rag doll for his finisher it would look out of place if he started writhing around on the floor, The Dominater looked so bad sometimes you'd be laying still in a hospital bed 3 days later never mind just after the move.
I had a friend legit spear me unexpected on a trampoline.. Legit knocked the wind out of me. I sold that better than these clowns, and I didn't have to sell.
One that drives me up the wall is guys not selling headbutts. Hitting someone with your own head is going to ring you bell almost as much too. Only Samoan's get to no-sell headbutts.
Actually if you do a headbutt right you don't ring your own bell. You don't want to swing your forehead forward like you usually see, that's how you hit hard bone on hard bone. What you want to do is get your head low (bend knees/waist) and then thrust forward and upward so you hit the guy's face with the top of your head, you hit soft parts with the hardest part. Lethwei (bareknuckle muay thai with headbutts) uses this to great effect and some boxers illegally sneak these in when opponents get too aggressive.
Case in point. Was watching the 2001 Rumble and Austin tried to headbutt Rikishi...TWICE. Both times he staggered backwards for about 5 seconds before attempting the next one. Rikishi then headbutts Austin and Austin drops.
Japan was a different scene. Being stiff is a requirement in Japan. Totally different product. That's why guys like Vader, Brody, and Stan Hansen were stars.

I always remember the Road Warriors going up against a real heel tag team like the Midnight Express, and the heels would always cut them off with a thumb to the eye. Even the Road Warriors sold the eye poke. The commentary was great too "of course there's no eye machine in the gym". Perfect!

Did you know that kicking an opponent when your foot is not flat in a stomp was illegal. The referees used to admonish wrestlers for separating fingers, and stretching the mouth. Yes the punch was always illegal until a couple years ago. Wrestlers were required to use a forearm or an open hand strike. Look at videos of wrestlers in the 70s. Now you have Roman Reigns and others closed fist punching at will. No, it's not believable, it's not even wrestling.
Al Snow is one of those guys you could listen to for hours.
A friend recommended this to me for training tips, this is awesome
Damn. Al looks absolutely jacked ! Love the ring psychology.
It's just like how 4th line forwards in Hockey are the best coaches.
Al Snow was a 2nd liner in ECW which was real good & impressive👍
I need more of this in my life I swear some people don’t really stress the psychology this well
Dammit!!!! I watched another one and looking for the next. Al makes this ish interesting.
damn he looks better now that when he was in the wwe, and the breakdown was top notch, mad respect
what a good guy, passing on the torch like that. People look down on wrestling but it takes alot of talent to do it right. big fan myself!!!!
I love this guy. Whenever I see super unrealistic shit it takes me completely out of it. Always has
Everything Al says, is exactly why I HATE Big Show's big punch and Roman Reign's Superman Punch as finishers. Closed fist is "illegal", so why aren't those guys DQ'd every time after they hit their finisher? Cause wrestling is stupid... even tho I love it.
Zed Chuva Closed fist punches are not illegal in WWE anymore
Closed fists haven't been illegal in WWE since WWE started using the term "sports entertainment"
Al explained that if its "protected" by a gimik, which Reigns and shows, is pretty much an ACTUAL finisher. It kinda works
Zed Chuva he explained that
Ironically punch finishers make total sense in lieu of what Al is saying because their punches are treated like fight enders and are different than everyone else's
Al Snow dropping gems
I wrestled the independents around Ohio/Michigan from 2003-2012. Did an Al Snow seminar around 2008 changed my entire approach to wrestling.
Side note sounds like the bar he mentioned should sell tickets for fights 😂😂
This is literally one of the smartest things I've seen in all the Internet this week. Damn Al Snow is all over it.
This gave me such a different perspective on so many things in the business
Honestly, when he got to the last point it reminded of Golddust's Shattered Dreams. Literally a punt to the balls as a finisher!
