- Henry Thynne, 6th Marquess of Bath, died on 30th June, 1992. in 1949, he was the first owner of Longleat to open its doors to the public and, in 1966, he opened the first Safari Park in the world outside Africa. His death was reported by BBC Points West and included a short film made about him 2 years earlier...
I lived on the estate from 1977 - 81, my mother was the manager of the restaurant and my step father looked after the lions and tigers, often I'd find cubs in my home! The Chipperfields were my neighbours, they got me on Animal Magic TV programme, and I went to school with Lady Lenka Thynn. Wonderful times, they really were back then.
he was there when i visited as a child; he did seem to do a grand job of keeping the estate going
Nice to see his grandson, the current Lord Bath looks so much like him.

Wow....his son, also died at the age of 87, due to coronavirus recently.🌼🌼🌼
Thank you for mentions the death of his son . A brilliant mind and humble man .
Was that the eccentric character that appeared in an episode of Time Team? Either way, may his soul rest in peace.
the father and son died at age 87😮
Interesting man totally different from his first born son
Its is indeed a tragedy that his son " viscount weymouth", who ascended to his Lordship after him has also passed into memory not one year ago.
I bet they were both vaccinated
