Spot on sir ! Police killings of unarmed and innocent people isn't just a risk for African American and Latinos, White Americans and Asians are also at risk too, more so than in any other developed country in the world. I live in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, where we have a bit of racial profiling by Police, but only one person was killed by Police this year, in the entire country !
It's not just African Americans who face this injustice from Police Killings and rare accountability for the Police Officers involved, White Americans face this injustice too. A slight majority of Americans Police shot by police throughout the USA, are white American and they make up 72.4% of the population as the 2010 Census. Thus, I support Campaign Zero (www.joincampaignzero.org/) , despite not living in the USA, but because I am shocked that the Justice System and Police Departments create this climate of fear that you are very likely to get shot if you own a real weapon, toy weapon, have the police come round to your house, or the Police have the slightest suspicion, based on your appearance or something you have in your hand, that you pose the threat of killing them.

@@thornimation5492 uk here. This is one of the most disturbing things I’ve seen. The complete lack of justice is disgusting. The idea the shooter was rehired to be given retirement money of $2500 per month is unimaginable. Shaver was murdered but you know what, the jury is to blame for not convicting him. He will face some kind of justice one day because you don’t kill at the age of 26, get away with it and go live a peaceful life, something else will happen one day. Let’s stop with the “‘there’s....something.....wrong with the training” stuff too. There’s something wrong with the people they recruit full stop.

They never should've told him to crawl down the hall. All they needed to do was have him lay down with his hands stretched out in front of his head and they should've sent an officer over to retrieve him.

It does not take a split second to take four days to tell Shaver's wife that her husband was shot dead. It does not take a split second to withhold the video from the public for 23 months. It does not take a split second for the judge to decide that the jury cannot know that "YOU"RE F****D" was etched on Brailsford's weapon. It does not take a split second to force Shaver's widow to choose between seeing the video OR speaking to the press (but not both). It does not take a split second to interrogate Shaver's widow for eight hours. It does not take a split second to continue to treat Shaver like a criminal to this day, even with all the facts now known. It does not take a split second for the Mesa police union to slander Shaver.

And when one of the cops escapes to the Philippines there is something seriously wrong afoot.

I looked at the video. It's truly a heartbreak because the man was begging and he was responding to the answers and questions. But the act of such an ego of imposing force, like a man wearing tactical gear and pointing an assault rifle. Would have surely have anybody nervous and scared and very wary about the outcome. I saw this on the news on ABC 15. I'm really glad that you guys also reporting this because to be honest, there is something literally wrong about this. The individual that killed this innocent man, was a young Hotshot! Pulling the trigger before recognizing anything of such actual threat. As he didn't think he reacted to something that wasn't. The Mother and Daughter, the Family. Citizens of Mesa need to be reassured that this man is not going to be holding such status of this line of work. Because he already made a mistake, and in this line of duty. You only get none. His records also shown that he is aggressive, excessive in his acts of duty. To be honest, I don't like the tone of this guy's voice just something about it. I would like to know if they did a drug test as well on this guy the one who killed the innocent victim, afterwards to see if there was anything inside his system like you know like pain pills any form of alcohol consumption. That might have impaired his judgment to cause such an act of such cruelty. Justice is coming Love. #To the #Daughter just #stay #mighty #in #all #so #brave. Just say no to those bad feelings of much pain.

Who tells a man sobbing to crawl towards them when you can see he is intoxicated? Shouting at him and making him scared because you are power-drunk on your gun. May you the shooter never have peace till you die. I wish he didn't crawl he should have just spread his hands out and not crawl.

So, what's your point? Absolutely nothing you said negates what happened are had added anything. He was drunk. So? I thought police who supposed to be able to assess situations and make the proper calls from there? He had a pellet gun, fuck I guess that means it's okay for cops to unload into people because they got scared for a second. I guess that means it's okay someone who had committed no crime, was non-violent and compliant, and very drunk and very emotional, being made to crawl across a hallway floor on all fours (again while incredibly drunk).
Sure, drinking isn't great. That doesn't mean its okay to shoot the fucking guy.
I understand Brailsford wasn't premeditated and that you could ultimately call it a mistake. But any other civilian in the country would get punished for their mistakes, especially if it resulted in the death of a person who had committed no crime. The point is: Cops get leniency they don't deserve. This whole incident is a tragedy, and when no one is held accountable all they've done is tell a grieving mother and their daughters that their loved one deserved to die for making mistakes.

Lol you're a sociopath just like Brailsford. I pray that you never become a police officer. He was drunk. So what? He was drinking in the privacy of his hotel room. The guy worked his butt off doing pest control, traveling all over the place, because he said he wanted his daughter's to have everything they'd ever need. He had just gotten a new scope on his pellet rifle, and was showing the guy who was drinking with him. That's not illegal. He wasn't trying to hurt anyone. You're argument of saying he was drunk, carefree, lost control of his functions, is probably the dumbest thing I've ever heard. As I stated previously, he was drinking in his hotel room, after a day of working, not causing anyone any harm, not roaming the streets picking fights with people, or knocking over old women for their purse. Nobody should be shot dead by police, for getting drunk in their hotel room, showing someone in said hotel room, their new scope on their pellet rifle that they had for their job, for having a difficult time following a complicated game of simon says, and for simply trying to pull up their basketball shorts. I know you being a heartless sociopath, it's hard for you to put yourself in peoples shoes, but try putting yourself in his shoes that night. See how you might feel. He got shot because he didn't follow instructions. A jury of 12 independent people thought the same, that's why the officer was found not guilty. If the officer had broke the law he would have been held accountable. Sorry for your loss.

No we are not doing this. Both offices did wrong. Further more "legal" is not moral or ethical. Period

It's definitely a tragedy but she is his widow & hence biased. A lot of people don't want to hurt her feelings but this is the truth of the matter. The officers were responding to a report that someone was pointing a gun out of the window of the La Quinta Hotel. Based on the circumstances, Philip "Mitch" Brailsford could reasonably believe that Daniel Shaver was armed & that his (the cop's) life was in danger. Daniel was warned previously that his sudden movements would be perceived as a threat & that he would be shot. Maybe he was confused & didn't perceive the seriousness of his actions but Philip Brailsford feared for his life. He made a split second decision. Think if you were in his shoes. You wouldn't be taking any chances. Its a tragedy & Daniel Shaver just wanted to pull up his shorts but the ex-cop shouldn't be charged or held accountable. Daniel wasn't a bad guy but his actions & decisions brought the police there. If the gun wasn't really pointed out the window, then he should have made sure the blinds were closed. There was a murder documentary I watched awhile back where a guy in one car pulled up to another car stopped at the light. The guy in the left car shot through his own car window to kill the guy to the right. Gun owners shouldn't put other citizens in fear for their lives. A citizen can still feel threatened even if the gun holder is behind a window.

The hotel windows cannot open all the way, so there was no way to point the gun out the window. It did not require a split second decision to wait four days for the city to contact Shaver's widow. Shaver was given illogical and inconsistent instructions that nobody, even sober and under no threat of death, could follow. If this was not murder, then it was straight up incompetence. Brailsford sucks at his job, as does Charles Langley, the cop who was screaming at Shaver. Neither one of these wastes of protoplasm is fit to be a school hall monitor. Brailsford and Langley have no rights at all in the court of public opinion, and if we want to condemn them as murderers, we can. I will NEVER support any cop who kills an innocent, law-abiding, unarmed, compliant citizen, regardless of the circumstances.

@tubenshaft - Don't attack or threaten me. An officer doesn't have to wait to see a weapon to shoot his weapon. He just has to perceive a threat & reasonably fear for his life. Stop making officers fight with one hand tied behind their back. Daniel reached backwards even after he was warned not to do that again. It does look like he could be reaching (or grabbing) for something. Also, Philip was looking through the scope of his rifle when he shot Daniel & had limited vision. He was legally justified in his shooting & He met his legal burden of proof. The jury realized that & came to the right decision. - Look, my comment is over 2 yrs old. I don't want to keep talking about this. I'm not trying to trigger or hurt any people emotionally for their loss. They just need to forgive Philip & move on. There are worse cops out there to fry. I'm not happy that Daniel died. Jeez.
P.S. - Stop being manipulative & bias by bringing up the writing on Philip's gun. He may have got that & regretted it later. Don't assume it represented his state of mind. The video showed that ex-officer Philip Brailsford used a lot of restraint before he fired the shots.

@@TheHenok30 I suspect that the jury was given "special instructions" to only consider "certain evidence". I seriously doubt that they saw the whole story and unanimously decided "Yes, Daniel Shaver deserved to die." This trial likely mishandled, deliberately.

@tubenshaft - not to put salt in the wound, b/c you are obviously passionate about your opinion ,as I am. However, I would have known better & wouldn't have responded the way Mr. Shaver did. Just to "make believe" that I would be in that situation, I would have heeded the officer's warnings regardless of the harshness of his words. - Also, the crossing of the legs & moving forward is totally doable. I tried to do it a while back & I was able to do it.
Note: It would have been nice if the officers arrested Daniel while he was lying face down on the ground. It would have avoided his crawling, mistakes & death. Nevertheless, if I consider the command for Mr. Shaver to crawl a mistake, then that is just what it was. Officers make mistakes also. Let's not forget that the crawling didn't get Daniel killed. He got shot b/c he made a threatening gesture & failed to heed the officer's repeated warnings.

@@TheHenok30 "Officers make mistakes also". If your mistakes get someone killed, you are still legally and morally responsible. Doctors are sued for malpractice, and often have their medical licenses revoked. Six people were killed in Miami in 2018 because a brand new bridge collapsed. This was the result of flawed design and lax oversight, not a "mistake". The Mesa PD failed to ascertain the situation when they did not ask the desk for details or ask Shaver why we had rifles. Langley screamed at Shaver when he should have remained calm. You claim that you would have followed instructions. Do you seriously think Shaver just decided to not obey? He COULD not follow those instructions. He was drunk, confused, and terrified. In basic training, you will screw up when the drill sergeants scream at you, and they will just make you do push ups, not shoot you dead. Nobody in circuit training class worries that the fitness instructor is going to shoot someone dead for getting a routine wrong. The cops are either evil or incompetent. Incompetence is no excuse for anything, especially killing an innocent man.

the guy was brandishing a gun on the balcony, the cops had no choice.
