My wife used to use old coffee cans as baking pans to make things like the train boiler. She made a Star Wars R2D2 cake. The dine in R2D2 was made in a metal mixing bowl.
Thank you. We did it. 1st time ever playing with fondant. It is not crisp like yours but it was fun and made our little 10 year old very happy. I don't know how to add the picture. Duh.
@@SugarHighScore just checking if the cake stayed fresh that long? I really want to attempt this for my train infatuated soon-to-be 2 year old. but just weary of starting too early in case the cakes get stale. Would really appreciate your help! :)
I finally got to make the steam locomotive cake for my grandson. Oh, the work. You made it look far easier! Turned out great though! I cheated and used a styrofoam cylinder. For the smoke stack, I used the bottom part of a wire hanger, the kind with the white, firm cardboard rolled around the wire bottom. I cut that part of the hanger off and used only that. I bought a tall hollowed-out support tube (used for dowel rods) I covered that in the black fondant about half way only. Insert that into cake. I then bent the wire with the attached cardboard the hanger comes with, then I cut it using wire cutters, bent it for the "smoke" then lubed up the top bent part of the hanger (keep and bend that cardboard) with clear piping gel and attached lots of cotton balls. Then I inserted that into the fondant covered hollow support tube. Was amazing!
Love the attention to detail
thank you so much❤

Hi! This is amazing, what chocolate cake recipe do you use?
I made this so long ago that I can’t remember. Lately I’ve been using the chocolate cake recipe by Yolanda Gampp.

Great job! How long did the whole project take you to finish? That looks like it took quite a bit of baking and organizing.
Thank you, Peter! This one took SO long because of all the details. I lost track of time. Maybe 4 days?
