    Jean you are a wonderful lady to watch. Your videos are not too long and not chatty at all. The reason I watch your videos is your kind personality, the chatting as it keeps me company while I am solo in my craft room. There's never a Long video because there is a pause button, or a stop button. People can carry on watching another day. If they don't like your style, then they can move on to somebody else's, who's is boring. You just be who you are. 98% of the people watching your videos do because of you're great personality. Don't change for anybody, don't alter your videos, they your videos. You doing a fantastic job? It's great fun and I learn so much in a friendly relaxing way. I just want to say a big. Thank you.

    It's great you're listening to the comments and trying to improve, but honestly just make the video you want to make. The audience who enjoys your style will stay and the audience who have problems will leave and that's ok. None can please everyone, so you might as well please yourself and the viewers who enjoy YOUR style.

    I love the "rambling" ... It means you are real and not reading from a script.. Dont change your style to impress the snobs! I have on occasion when doing my backing realize i didnt buy enough cuz i didnt have a plan yet but loved the fabric so what i do is cut the length down the foldline and use the extra fabric from the top and piece chunks together and put it between the 2 lengths i have and now my backing is big enough. Its like a mini quilt on the back. Also if there are any "stray" blocks it makes for a fun backing as well ..

    I think most of us who watch you, do so because we love the conversational style of your videos. Down with the "tutorial snobs" who think everyone needs to fit into a certain format for their videos! Boohoo on them! There are plenty of other tutorials for them to watch if they don't care for the way that you do yours. I always feel a bit confused by why anyone would bother to leave a negative comment on a video they didn't enjoy. I see videos all the time that just don't do anything for me or where that person's style is just very different than my own. And my response is to simply turn it off and watch something else. It would be too time consuming to comment to every video I didn't personally care for. Why take the time to do that instead of just moving on to a video I DO like? I'll never understand. I think there are just a lot of unsatisfied people out there that feel like they need to let everyone else know about it. I certainly don't feel any emotional investment in a video I don't like. Our culture is so different from the way I think inside my own head and live my own life. Simple pleasures. Low stress. Major on the majors and minor on the minors. Find something you enjoy and let the rest move on past. We love you and we love to hear about you. I love that I can grab a cup of coffee and sit down at my machine while I watch and listen to you as I go. I think most of us wish we lived near you so that we could spend time with you in the same room on a regular basis. I know, for myself, that I would love to have you as a friend. Keep doing what you do, the way that seems natural for you to be doing it, and just be exactly who you are, because that is the person we came here to watch. You are already perfect as you are! Boohoo on the tutorial snobs, lol!

      Oh you are welcome! I also completely forgot that I piece my backings also - in a patchwork method! That way you don't need so much yardage from one print - you can use different prints and cut out squares and make it patchwork style, and it makes it completely reversible! Thanks for watching me! :)

    I have come to really love pieced backing fabric. It kind of makes the finished product "reversible," if you will. It takes a bit more effort than a single piece of backing fabric or doubling as you did, but it sure can be fun!

    • @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory
      @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory  7 лет назад +1

      Actually thanks so much for addressing that! I too, have done pieced backings ~ I must mention that and show a few examples in my next video~ I completely forgot I did them!! LOL!! That way you don't have to get as much of one fabric and it gives 'reversible' options as you say! Thanks so much again for reminding me!!! WE can do this TOGETHER!! LOL!! :)

    Thanks for making and posting a video on this topic. The only thing I'd advise against is pressing the back seam open. You did say you press it to one side, but that it's personal preference. But there's a reason: pressing a seam open means a weaker seam, which could "pop" the stitches with regular use of the quilt, and is tricky to mend. This is much less likely to occur when the seam is pressed over.

    • @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory
      @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory  5 лет назад

      Thanks for watching! I always press my seams to one side...because of the reason you explained...but I have seen many a tutorial advising to press them open ~ which I don't do, like I said. It's a much stronger seam pressed to one side. Great minds think alike;)

  • @lindafriend9392

    Just finished a throw about 46" by 60 ". I had enough fabric from the front to piece a matching 12" wide strip. I cut the backing up the fold line and inserted the strip - two long seams to sew 😒 but a really pretty finish.

    • @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory
      @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory  7 лет назад

      Clever girl!! Yes! Piecing the back is another brilliant idea! I actually was reminded by another commenter about this idea and completely forgot that I have done it!! Pieced backings sometimes take a bit more time, but make a truly reversible quilt! Keep on! :)

    I have been watching a lot of your videos and they are so helpful. May I ask what causes the rippling on my backing when I do a straight line quilting? I sew from top to bottom and then switch bottom to top. I pin baste my quilt sandwich.. Not sure what I am doing wrong?

    • @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory
      @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory  4 года назад

      Thanks for watching me! You may find that your stitch length is a bit short. Also if your machine has an adjustment capability for your presser foot, that might help to loosen the pressure. But most of all, if your machine comes with a walking foot, that is very helpful as it feeds the fabric both on top and bottom, at the exact rate. I find the rippling or puckering just a part of the charm and I'm not all that worried about it!

    I was wondering if one has to use the spray to baste and if one has to use batting?

      I have actually never used the spray to baste my quilts - only pins. But others have with great results. And yes, I always use batting, even for baby quilts.

      Pamala Gilbert That’s the way my Granny done when she didn’t have fabric. I’ve got a quilt top that I plan to use a sheet backing and I’m going to hand tie it, like my Granny done to some of hers. I have only made one quilt (I don’t have the back of the binding on due to using Minky-didn’t know any better😆) I have several quilt tops but I can’t figure out the backing & binding😂

    I really enjoy your videos your quilts are beautiful. I have a question. You must have a lot of leftover scraps do you ever make scrap quilts?

    • @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory

      ummmmmm.......I have TONS of scraps that I am in the (very slow) process of cutting up into 10" and 5" squares. I, in general, don't make 'scrap' quilts, as such, but I think I will start because I DO have a ton!! Thanks so much for watching me! :)
