This is why I wasn't surprised when Minho chose the Marines for his military service.
Minho's father is a national soccer star and current Korean soccer coach. Choi learned soccer at a very early age.
I miss the era when male and female idols played games together. Golden days
Minho was actually the winner for one of the King of Kings episodes of Dream Team (an all-star obstacle course round where all the previous winners for the year compete against each other). It’s that clip you saw where the prize was a luxury sedan (Kia K7 I believe), but he didn’t have a driver’s license at the time lol.
Minho is far from being just a typical jock though: he’s also known for being really smart and a hard worker above all else. In fact, he famously took the CSAT, AKA the national college entrance exam, after having filmed for Dream Team the entire day prior (in typical Minho fashion he broke the show’s high-jumping record in that episode). He scored high enough on the exam to be accepted into Konkuk University, an academically top-ranked college, where he went on to study Film. He later got his Master’s at the same institution. This also happened to be the same year that “Ring Dong Dong”, a song (in)famous for being an earworm was released, so a common online meme at the time was that Minho had intentionally planned the song to sabotage his competitors.
But yeah, because of his many good qualities Minho used to be nicknamed “Um-chin-ah” which is a Korean slang word meaning “Your Mom’s Friend’s Son”. It’s basically a term that refers to “that guy who your mom always compares you to because he’s unrealistically good at everything.” 😂
A lot of the clips used were from Dream Team, which was a weekly variety show wherein the cast would regularly do very physically demanding obstacle courses or whatnot. Minho was a regular cast member for a while, along with Eunhyuk of Super Junior and Chansung and Junho of 2PM. Various other SHINee, Super Junior, 2PM, and many other idols would usually come appear on it as part of their album promotions. Really, idols these days have it easy because they don't need to do this kind of very physical shows anymore.
Its kinda crazy that he also plays tennis, badminton, squash, has a car racing license and golfs every weekend (he was trained by legendary Korean golf athletes on a recent golf show). He was also trained by a national high jump athlete for a drama role. To top it off, in a joint training as a marine with UDT (basically Korean ver of SEALs) he was the only Marine to beat them them in a 3km race (though he came 4th overall, its amazing against special trained forces)
MINHO IS INSANE, i dont know how he has time to do shinee/music activities, acting, and learning new sports and playing sports on his free time, AND workout. That man can do everything and never gets tired 😂😂
Minho's competitiveness is LEGENDARY! I guarantee Nobody Willingly chooses to go against him in a competition. 🤣😂🤣😂😂
Okay, wait, there's a few different components to "Onew Condition." 😂 Firstly, he was legitimately jetlagged and super tired in that clip so all of that was real. But to explain further, all of SHINee debuted super young so as the oldest, he kind of took it upon himself to be the funny one in variety shows because the younger members were still so young and uncomfortable. "Onew Condition" can be summed up as a whole lot of clumsy pratfalls, making awkward comments that kill the conversation, busting out some horrible dad jokes and puns, etc., etc. Some of it's very much calculated, and some of it's also simply him being a strange little dude, especially for an idol. He's toned down the Onew Condition nowadays, but... he's still very much a strange little dude (in a good way!) If you want to make a funny Onew compilation, would recommend these videos:

Minho is LEGEND in the industry for being athletic. No one else comes close. This video didn’t cover even half of his athleticism. He is just built like a pro athlete. So since his debut he guests in nearly every sports related variety shows. His father is a pro Korean soccer coach, and the Korean hall of fame basketball star Seo Jang Hoon once said that Minho is known for his excellence in soccer but many people don’t know how good he really is in basketball. And recently, he’s been sweeping golf. So any sports he tries his hands on he just kills it. 👍🏼👏🏻
Minho's competitive spirit and his need to be the best at everything, is also why he enlisted in an enlite branch of the Marines when he went into the military, and he became one of the leaders of his unit. He even gave up his chance to be discharged early because he wanted to stick around and take part in some intense training drills, so he gave up his vacation time to stay an extra week. He was the only one out of his unit that was able to keep up with the special forces soldiers, who are career soldiers, and were also taking part in the training at that time. That just shows you how serious he is as an athlete.
Minho was given the nickname Flaming Charisma when they debuted, and, as you can see, he has embraced that title, becoming the top idol athlete in the industry. Pretty much its an agreed upon fact that Minho is the No. 1 idol athlete. No one is as good at EVERY sport and game as he is.
There are plenty of Idols who excel at one sport. Just watch some of the episodes of the Korean sports variety show, "Cool Kids Next Door," and you will see idols who come on the show as top athletes in a specific sport and teach the regular cast members -- who are comedians, entertainers and idols -- the basic skills needed to compete against real life club teams. But there is almost no one who is an all arounder in every sport like Minho. A lot of the idols you know have either been on Cool Kids Next Door as experts in a sport and/or as regular cast members who learn a new sport every few weeks and compete in tournaments with local club teams. (The clips of Minho playing soccer in the black and yellow uniform was on Cool Kids Next Door.)
Since being discharged from the Marines, Minho has now also taken up golf and he has earned his auto racing license. I'm telling you, he is passionate about all sports.
Minho's dad was a professional minor league soccer player that became a coach for a minor league team when he retired as a player, and he currently is a manager for a minor league team. Therefore, Minho grew up around soccer and he originally thought he wanted to become a professional player. But his dad was against it, so when he got a chance to audition for SM at around age 14, he decided to become an Idol instead. Minho's passion for sports and his drive to always be the best comes from the values his dad instilled in him from a young age.
When Minho puts his mind to something he very rarely loses. He hates to lose, and he is so competitive that he won't quite until he has mastered the game or has won, etc. For example, in a TV show where he played basketball, when they were doing shooting drills he literally wanted to keep doing it over and over again until he was able to do it perfectly. The coaches wanted to stop after 15 minutes, but Minho would have been at it all day if they let him, until he was satisfied that he was able to master all the positions on the court like a professional player.
Minho is just built different.. yet he is one of the humblest, kindest loving human being too.
Minho plays almost all sports, but his current obsession' is golf. He is working to become a pro level golfer, because Miho can never do anything half way!
Golf. Minho loves golf. Yeah. You read that right. He did an entire show with him playing golf.
He’s so competitive. 😂 he even appeared on Running Man for Girls Generation’s episode as one of the “obstacles”

I saw that you had an snsd week as well. Do you know that Minho is like snsd's fave lil brother? There is actually a compilation of Minho being SNSDs fave lil brother on the net. Its not the most recent since he had had a lot more interaction with the girls but its a fun video. You can how different he is when he is with the girls as oppose to how he is when he is playing sports.

In a 5 members dream idol football team, I would have EXO's Xiumin and SHINee's Minho as strikers, NCT Yuta and X1's Woodz as midfilders, and VIXX's Leo as defender.
BtoB Minhyuk holds the record for the most medals at the idol athletics, although Minho and Minhyuk are different generations.

Yes, but Taemin is a guy that would either win with a sweet smile on his face or do something crazy like targeting his own goal or running in the wrong direction. And you would never know if he did it because he got distracted or just to mess with everyone ;)

@@umarekomal3389 I saw probably all the videos of Taemin in existence :) And while Minho is in every competition to win, Taemin is there to have fun. He has great body and mind, but he doesn't have a soul of a sportsman, if you know what I mean :)

Since no one mentioned in answer to your question Minho is 181 in height over 6 ft I think that translates at as Jonghyun was 173 which is just over 5ft tall.
No, that’s not right. 😅 Minho is about 6’ and Jonghyun was 5’7” to 5’8” or so. Onew, Key, and Taemin are all around 5’9” to 5’10”, with Key the tallest among those three.
Minho is 5’11. 6 foot is 183cm.
Minho's height is 183cm, they've talked about their heights in one of the shows/interviews they were invited years ago..
