Didn’t realized it at first until your comment and replayed back and when Thranduil says: “Legolas, your mother loved you, more than anyone. More than life.” made me sob 😭🥺 I’m watching this in 2020 and it’s the first time I’ve noticed and understood the profound meaning.
The father and son relationship is epic. Thranduil very much loves his son Legolas but has difficulty expressing it, and would say something the opposite, that is heartbreaking. I surely can relate to that.
Loved to see a movie on big screen about Legolas, He mother & father & the elves. Their history and the different elves. The story of what happened to Legolas' mother. I'm sure it would be an Epic, fascinating and also heartbreaking tale. 💖
Lee Pace is the greatest actor I saw. Only with his acting his facial expression you feel his fear of losing his only son,the heartbreak of seeing his son leaving and all the love he has for his son when he is relief to see his son alive. I watch this movie more than 20times and now my kids are watching it too and I still love this movie 🎬 .

This video marked me for life when I first saw it three years ago. It proved to me that Thranduil wasn't just that arrogant and cold king we saw in the movies, but a loving father and king who cared for his son and his people. It was, and still is one of the most beautiful videos I ever saw. ❤❤❤❤😊
I love how in the movie in spite of their differences and beliefs. Thrandruill still want the best for his son. You can see his love for him in spite of the grief and pain that burden his heart. Not only does he send Aragorn a most worthy ally but a brother to his son. He sees the greatness of character in Aragorn and at the same time the need for Legolas to bond and unite with such a strong man. Iron sharpens iron. That's what many men need today.
He doesn't, he says that to Tauriel which had raised her sword against her king. Legolas interferes and immediately challenges his father upon the threat of him hurting her. Thranduill stands down because it's his son defying him. According to the movie story portrayal anyways. ..

This forced live triangle doesn't seem to be in the books version though.... Thranduill is an interesting character because he is complex and realistic But one thing is sure he did love his son. In fact the only thing that seemed to cause him fear was his son's life being at risk....

Thranduil knew he couldn't stop legolas from going,so to avoid worrying about him and protect him. He chose to send him to aragon. Aragon's safety was assured. Smart elf 🙌

This video is very moving. Contrary to popular belief, Thranduil is a great character. He's froud because of the death of his wife. He was bruised many times by the torments of immortal life... You have to understand it to appreciate it, and only then you can see the fantastic character that is Thranduil Oropherion. I'm not saying that he is to be pitied ! Far be it from me ! No, I say when we understand it, we attached to it. I hope that some will understand it better in the futur... Me, personally I find him great despite the cold and hard mask that he forged ! Thranduil loved his riches more then the average elf, but he was still far less greedy then your average dwarf or human. Less wise does not equal unwise. He was still a wise and good king. Thranduil valued life above all else in the book. Bard and Thranduil's roles seem somewhat switched in battle of the five armies in the movies (personalities included).
I always felt that way. Since I found out his wife died, I knew why he behaved the way he did in Hobbit. Not anyoane can move on after the death of somone dear, especialy if he's immortal. I know he is a litle too greedy for an elf, but that doesn't mean he is heartless.
I can't help but think that Thranduil was speaking for HIMSELF and not for Legola's mother. Thranduil loved Legolas more than life. But as a king, he will not show his emotions too much.

He "lost" his son because these positions pushed Legolas away from him. When the battle was over Legolas struck out on his own because he felt you couldn't turn a blind eye to the world's problems and that treasure wasn't worth throwing lives away to gain.

Appendix B of return of the king has the details but he wins the battle under the trees and expanded his realm in the north of the wood. That's the way it is with men. My dad was the same way all growing up. Never a "good job." Never a pat on the back. Never an "I love you." However, I know my dad loved me. He was always there for advice, he gave me clothes, food, and a roof over my head. He even helped pay for my way into college. I knew he loved me from his actions not his words.

After the war with the ring, Thranduil renamed Mirkwood to Forest of Green Leaves. Legolas name means Greenleaf. **after he defended the north without support from others. almost half of woodland elves died.

Now Im starting to think the only reason thranduil ever went to war was to ensure his son was still alive 😍he never wanted to fight at all. Read the books or look up some more info at least, it is worth it. Thranduil was depicted this way in the movie. However, he was actually a wise, noble, true and kind king. He wasn't just a king of Elves, he was the king of his people. He led them through many struggles and created the woodland realm, a prospering kingdom. He has valued a life of an elf above all.
Funny thing is that I have an older cousin who looks exactly like Thranduil. It really annoys me because I love Thranduil but whenever we watch it as a group, everyone points out the resemblance and I'm like "can you guys not?"

Now Im starting to think the only reason thranduil ever went to war was to ensure his son was still alive 😍he never wanted to fight at all. This video just makes him look so loving 🙌 he used to seem like the coldest elf. Worse than elrond but know I'm starting I think he's behavior was based on his past experience.
Read the books or look up some more info at least, it is worth it. Thranduil was depicted this way in the movie. However, he was actually a wise, noble, true and kind king. He wasn't just a king of Elves, he was the king of his people. He led them through many struggles and created the woodland realm, a prospering kingdom. He has valued a life of an elf above all.

Funny thing is that I have an older cousin who looks exactly like Thranduil. It really annoys me because I love Thranduil but whenever we watch it as a group, everyone points out the resemblance and I'm like "can you guys not?"
