And, in the three-part book, the fellowship HAVE been there for Frodo! Thereby, making this video that much more wholesome!

I love how in the movie in spite of their differences and beliefs. Thrandruill still want the best for his son. You can see his love for him in spite of the grief and pain that burden his heart. Not only does he send Aragorn a most worthy ally but a brother to his son. He sees the greatness of character in Aragorn and at the same time the need for Legolas to bond and unite with such a strong man. Iron sharpens iron. That's what many men need today.

Thranduil and Legolas prefer the king-prince relationship to the father-son relationship (I honestly don't think it's their choice). Towards the end of The Hobbit 3 we learned that it was due to a tragic loss in their past. Legolas was as strong as a terminator in Lord of the Rings, just as he was in The Hobbit. But until The Hobbit 3, we didn't know how deeply the loss of his mother had affected him. He managed to hide his psychological weakness throughout the entire series. I think he hid his mood, which contradicted his physical strength, so that he could continue to look strong. Another reason for this may be that he feels distant from the person closest to him in this world. Throughout the entire series, he never once treated his father like a real father. Same with Thranduil. But they both love each other very much. They're just too lost in their pain to show. At the end of the movie, we all saw Thranduil looking for his son with fearful eyes in the bodies of dead soldiers lying on the ground, and his happiness when he saw him alive. I would love to watch their past, learn in detail what happened to his mother, and understand how they came to be. I wish they'd make a trilogy just about this family.
