    I have done this with Dove soap for about 35 years now. It was from a recipe from a microwave cookbook series. I grate the soap with a box grater. Put the soap flakes in a large microwaveable bowl with water and microwave and stir until melted and smooth. Then poor into pump or squeeze bottle. I am going to try with the Zote soap. Thank you for your videos.

    This recipe and method worked very well for me. Thank you for sharing it. The only minor change that I made was that I took a box grater and I grated the 2 Oz of soap off the bar so when I added the boiling water to it, it was in little shreds. This made the process a little faster and was easier on the motor of my blender.

    I made a batch of this and I really like it in the shower. I started another batch today. It’s not a lot of work but it does take time but it’s not like you are doing anything most of the time. Super cheap. It’s aids up so good. I’ll see how my skin reacts. So far so good. I have been enjoying your videos.

      I'm so happy to hear you made this successfully, Debbie! I don't think it's a lot of work either, just mostly waiting for the soap to do its thing. I hope your skin reacts well to it! We enjoy it very much and like how well it cleans. The price can't be beat for sure, but it's that it works so well that keeps us going back. Thank you so much for letting me know you tried this! It makes my heart sing!! 🎶 I hope you're having a great weekend!

    I have been using Zote soap for years as laundry soap. I just grate it with a cheese grader keep in a jar and just put a table spoon or two of it in the washer. Am I missing something important by not making it into a liquid?

    boiling the soap bar in water to melt is not only a little less work intensive but also yields less 'slimy' results. works for fels naptha and other laundry/soap bars too. it does smell up the kitchen so you can't cook or eat at the same time... just titrate the amount of water to how runny you want the end product. i really like and appreciate your videos, thanks and please keep them coming!

    • @TheFrugalMinimalist

      Thank you for your great tip! I'll try this the next time I need to make a batch and to be honest I had to look up titrate as I haven't done that since HS chemistry 😅. Thank you for you very kind and encouraging words - they help motivate me to keep going. Please keep your tips coming as well!! 🤗

    I want to try this. If it does not work for a facial cleanser, I will try to use it as a hand soap. I presently use a bar of Ivory Soap (very inexpensive), grated and mixed with a gallon of boiled water with a couple of teaspoons of glycerin added. I have done this for many years and rarely buy hand soap unless it is free during a coupon haul my daughter is doing. Occasionally, we need the new pump from the hand soap deal. Thank you for sharing. 🙂

    The result came out looking much better than the just boiled version, but I'm wondering: Is there any benefit to liquifying the soap? Seems to me you could just rub the bar against a bath poof to lather up, no?

      @TheFrugalMinimalist  5 лет назад +1

      Hello! Other than the ease of use and less waste for us, no change in functionality. The soap works the same whether you work up the lather from the bar or from a bath poof with the liquid version. I hope this helps!

    • @TheFrugalMinimalist
      @TheFrugalMinimalist  5 лет назад +1

      Oh my I'm so sorry to hear it costs that much!! Maybe it has to do with importing or something? That's an insane amount and I'm so sorry the vendor is doing that to you. It's a great soap, but I wouldn't pay that much for it. :( I just did some searching online and I find that others in Canada also have issues finding Zote. One mentioned that they had success at Walmart, but didn't say how much it cost there. When I checked it said 16.22 😱. But if you are heading to a Walmart anyway, maybe stop by the laundry aisle to check as I've seen many times that Walmart online and the store can have very different pricing. Good luck to you! I'll keep searching on my end too and if I find anything I'll let you know! Thank you very much for watching and I hope you're having a great day!

    I grate Zote soap and then use a stick blender and for laundry soap I use a paint mixer with a power drill to blend in a 5 gal bucket mixed with borax. It works pretty good. If I’m pressed for time I will buy a box of Zote flakes from Walmart but it costs more.

And I didn't think it took that long. I was cleaning house and doing some laundry. Gave me little breaks. But it did work, plus it is very creamy. I hate going and buying fancy name brand soap. I am going to use this even when I travel. Thank you for this great video.

    I'd like to give it a try. I have a new Bullit, will it ruin the blade? I notice that you place a 'disclaimer' where it indicates that water and the soap can create bacteria, so is it safe enough in the condition you made it? This is great. Thank you. ❤👍

    • @loristrout4741
      @loristrout4741 5 лет назад

      It will not grow bacteria if the water is at a full boil. All utensils must be clean. For Body Wash this can be done with any soap, Ivory, Dove, Camay. It is exactly What The Soap Company Does. Keep a set of utensils just for soap making.

I still use my motor base with different cups and blade for food prep. The bar is excellent as a stand-alone too! This just makes it easier for us to use daily. • @TheFrugalMinimalist
      @TheFrugalMinimalist  5 лет назад +2

      Hi Jenny I looked at some comments, and they recommend distilled water instead of using just boiled tap water. Whether you used distilled or tap, the boiling of the water is to melt the soap (and in the case of the tap water to kill off anything in the water). I hope this helps!

      This is soap, not a mixture of surfactants and other additives formulated to clean and rinse cleanly from skin and hair.
      Soaps form soap scum in hard water. This will lead to deposits, not eliminate buildup....the opposite of what you claim. Whether you believe it or not, science is always right.

      I use it for washing clothes and I also use it in the shower to wash my body, face and hair sometimes! The citronella in it kept bugs away from us while we were in another country too! It's hypoallergenic and I believe works for most people, but if you do try it, please do take necessary precautions to make sure you.don't have negative reactions to it. • @TheFrugalMinimalist
      @TheFrugalMinimalist  5 лет назад

      Hi Catherine! I did try it out with a whisk but it was waaaaay too much work. I LOVE the soap but not enough to use that method and it didn’t turn out that great. 😰 I’ve read that others whip theirs with a handheld immersion blender, but I haven’t been able to get my hands on one to test. I do have a vita mix but after seeing how the soap seeps in to crevices if the bullet I’m very reluctant to try it considering that thing was so much money. I’m keeping my eyes peeled at my thrift stores to find an old equipment to test with. I think lots of people have blenders/immersion blenders. If I find a more accessible alternative you can bet I’ll be posting a video on that! Thank you very much for watching and for your support! I hope you have a great day!

I'm not sure where you are, but if you have an Ace hardware near you I know they will do special orders and only charge you for the item you buy. • @TheFrugalMinimalist

      Pretty much it’s just blending multiple times with no additional water other than that initial bit. This is the only way I could get the soap to stay more liquid instead of slimy.

      @@TheFrugalMinimalist Hi I already use zote for the laundry and now through your video I learned a lot more uses. Anyway, I used my immersion blender and it worked beautifully. I will probably use less water next time as I may want it a little thicker but I will have to see. The immersion blender is great because there are no crevices for the soap to hide. Just wash and you can use it for anything else you want. Also, I used purified water since I have very hard well water. Thank you so much for sharing.

    I want to thank you for this video! I made the soap and it was easy and came out just like you demonstrated. The only question I have is do you dilute it after it is made? The recipe does only make a small amount which is good as it won't have time to spoil but I can't see how one bar would last a year of you use it for bathing, washing your face and dishes? I was thinking maybe you dilute it after it is made?

    • @TheFrugalMinimalist
      @TheFrugalMinimalist  5 лет назад +1

      I'm so happy to read your comment! No we don't dilute it and use it mostly for bathing and washing our face. We only use it for dishes when we run out of dish soap.
      The best way I found to stretch it is to combine it with a scrubby in the shower. (We use something similar to a mesh vegetable bag) Wet the scrubby well and put a dollop of the soap and that makes a nice lather for us. I think diluted will work as well but I haven't tried it myself. If you do please let me know how it turns out! 😃

    Good morning dear Wendy,
    I know you believe that soap is really great. And I like everything you do. But that seems like a heck of a lot of work and I have to tie up my blender for days with that thing soaking.. You must think it's really worth it to do that? Can you tell me the benefits of that soap please and I also want to know how natural is that soap? I love the pink color and the price
    Warmest regards Miss Renee

    • @TheFrugalMinimalist
      @TheFrugalMinimalist  5 лет назад

      Hi Miss Renee! I believe it is worth it for us to do. Everyone in my family uses this soap and if we were to use it in bar form it goes much more quickly than if I have it blended in a squeeze bottle for us to use. It also makes it more convenient for us to transport this way. The bar form will work just as well though, so there's no need to blend it if you still want to use the soap. The soap is pretty natural except for the "optical brighteners" that it has. I haven't been able to find what this is. But we do use it for personal care and for laundry.
      These are the ingredients:
      Sodium tallowate (beef tallow)
      Sodium Cocoate (coconut oil)
      Fragrance (citronella oil)
      Optical Brighteners.
      Dye (Pink and Blue Bars only)
      I hope this was helpful!
