Homemade Low Fat Yoghurt made on the hob/stove top, 2 Ingredients, NO NEED for an Instapot

  • Hello my lovely friends, I have had quite a few requests to make this homemade yogurt for anyone that doesn’t have an instapot, its a very easy method, made on the hob, or stove top. All you need is 2 ingredients, a few basic kitchen utensils, and your choice of incubation, I chose a blanket to make it as easy as possible. It would help if you had a thermometer, but you can still make it if not. I will be doing a follow up video to show how to use the left over whey, so please watch out for that one.
    Love always
    Lynn ❤️

    I made yogurt in my Instant Pot and made a big mistake while doing it! After it reached 180 degrees I should have let it cool to 110 and forgot this last part because I felt lightheaded and had to sit for a bit. Anyway I tested it and it was 140 and I put the yogurt in. I realized my mistake and assumed it was ruined but decided to see it through anyway. Hours later I was shocked that I had yogurt. I strained it in cheescloth for three hours and it was very thick so I stopped there. I can't wait to try again. It tasted smooth and delicious. I ordered a yogurt strainer from Williams-Sonoma and will wait for it to arrive before I try again. My degree numbers are in fahrenheit as I live in the US.
    Carol

    • @Nanna-M
      @Nanna-M  6 месяцев назад

      Hi Carol, wow I’m so happy that you got yoghurt after your mistake, that’s amazing. Yes if you let all the whey strain out you end up with Greek yoghurt, but if you want it less thick, you can leave all the whey in if you want to. When I leave it in, I just stir it a bit when I want to eat it. I like it less thick if I’m having it for a desert, with fruits and nuts in, delicious. I’ve just made another batch, I’m doing 1 litre at a time now as there’s only me to eating it. Love it. If you don’t want to wait, you can use a linen napkin, or a clean cotton tea towel, they all work just fine ❤️ I’m so happy that you shared this with me ❤️❤️❤️

    • @Nanna-M
      @Nanna-M  6 месяцев назад +1

      It’s a good one Ellen, straining the whey out makes t into Greek yogurt, very thick, I made another batch yesterday and left the whey in, it’s much lighter, so I like it better for a desert, I put fruit and nuts in and have it instead of a pudding, I got over a 1150 grams from a litre of semi skimmed. You can use whey to add to your smoothies too, it’s full of probiotics, vitamins and enzymes, really good for you, I’ve told you on of my whey’s hahaha ❤️❤️

    Hi, my beautiful Lynn, That looked so delicious. You could add fresh fruit to each serving and so much nicer than buying store bought for sure. I also found out you can make it in a slow cooker. Of course, I got rid of my slow cooker. You wouldn't think it would be so simple to make, but it really is. I am going to try this myself for sure. And it's a lot less expensive. Yogurt is not cheap. At least not here. You always do such an awesome job with your cooking videos. You explain everything so well. I'm sure you can add different flavorings to the yogurt also. Even a little granola. I hope a lot of people give it a try, unless you are lactose intolerant. If you are, they say you can make it with cashew milk. So that should help those that want to try it and can't have dairy. And yogurt is so good for you. Great video Lynn. I def want to give it a go. I have never tried to make it before. And I love yogurt. You have a great day, my sweet friend. I'm going back on the heating pad as I'm in some pain and trying to get some relief. Take care beautiful. Lots of love and hugs sent your way.💊💊💊💕💕💕🤒🤒

      Hello darling, I’ve been having it for desert with berries, nuts and half a pot of that 10 calorie jelly, much healthier than a pudding or biscuits, and also I know exactly what’s in it. I just made another batch and left the whey in so it’s less thick, I enjoy it that way for deserts. Taking the whey out just makes it Greek yoghurt, very thick. Yes I’ve seen a video on making it in the slow cooker, and I have that function on my cosori, so I might have a go at that too. When I left the whey in, I got 1050 grams from 1 litre of milk, so very economical. Is it possible to make it with almond milk ? I could do that for people who are lactose intolerant, mmmmm I could be the yoghurt making queen hahaha 🤣 oh please do make it, and of course let me know how it turns out, I’m sure it will be perfect, 👌 xx oh I’m sad that you’re in pain again, your back is definitely worse than mine, I’ve never had a heat pad, but I’ve heard that they are very good. Well I hope you get some relief soon my darling friend, and I’m sending you healing vibes, and love in abundance as always my sweet sweet ballerina. It’s my mums birthday on the 19th March, so I’m going to share that photo of her as a ballerina, just beautiful 😍❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹

I do use the heating pad for my back too. It always goes up my spine into my head, which makes it worse. The heating pad does help a lot. It seems to relax the muscles and gives me some relief. Thanks for the healing vibes beautiful. They always help. Much love and hugs to you. Have a beautiful day.@@Nanna-M 🤟🤟🤟

      I see what you did there Lynda hahaha. Noooo, I left it a bit, then stirred a bit till it was done. Well it is a bit like a soft cheese spread so I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t, it’s draining the whey that turns it into Greek yoghurt, if you left some in it’s much more creamy. I’ve just made another batch and left it all in this time. Much love ❤️❤️❤️

    Hello Lyn, definitely will have a go at the home made yogurt, thanks. I saw your video about doing the treadmill today and what your results were. Yes you would have gained muscle mass through using your treadmill which would have changed your body composition to less body fat more lean muscle mass. You can get a Dexa Scan which shows how much of your over-all weight is attributed to bone density and how much fat and muscle. Exercise, especially resistance exercise will improve lean muscle mass as it burns fat and keep bone density stronger - always a plus for us over 60s! I have a treadmill in my garage too but I do some pilates which is a form of resistance exercise using your body's own weight to improve muscle tone and give you a sleeker silhouette. Love your videos, I also like Helen Mary Jo, she is fun like you. Kindest regards to you and your family.

    If using pasteurised milk can you get away with just bringing the milk heat up to 42c and then adding the yogurt?

    • @Nanna-M
      @Nanna-M  2 месяца назад

      I’ve never tired it Joanne, in theory you should be able to, but also part of it is sterilising the bowl that your milk is in, you only need a tiny bit of a bad bacteria, and it will kill the live cultures. You could try a small amount and see if it works. I’d be interested to know the outcome 🌹❤️🌹

      Mines never lasted long because I eat it but I would say going on for 2 weeks, but you can freeze it too, I just make 1 litre at a time now, I’ve just made another batch and left all the whey in this time, and I’m using it like a desert, with fruit and nuts, beautiful. ❤️❤️❤️

    Hi Lynn. Great video. I am going to try this as I eat lots of yogurt. Is it just 2 dessert spoons mixed with the litre of milk or did you put the whole tub in?

    • @Nanna-M
      @Nanna-M  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Sandra, yes, just 2 heaped desert spoons will do the job, make sure it contains live cultures, plain yoghurt. You’ll love it if you eat loads, straining the whey makes it into Greek yoghurt, but if you leave the whey in, it’s just normal yoghurt so you do whichever you like the best ❤️❤️

    • @Nanna-M
      @Nanna-M  3 месяца назад

      Hi Barbara, if I don’t strain the whey out I get it accumulating on top, and I mix mine in when I portion it out. But if yours is going thinner, perhaps strain some whey off first, if you strain too much off you’ll end up with Greek yoghurt ❤️❤️❤️

    • @Nanna-M

      Oh no Babs, maybe that’s what it is, I’ve only ever made mine with semi skimmed, or full fat. I’ve just this minute made a batch, waiting for it to rest for 12 hrs. Mines creamy if I don’t strain it, but not loose. Do you never have cows milk, 🥰❤️🥰 much love Babs ❤️🥰❤️
