One way that I learned how to get proper trigger pull was taking a spent case & balancing it on my front post while I held it up in firing position. If you pull the trigger properly it’ll stay balanced. If you use to little finger or to much finger it’ll fall to the right or left. Or if you’re jerking the trigger instead of having a smooth pull it’ll fall of the post. This helped me when I started shootings & had shots going slightly left of the center line because I was using too much of my finger on the trigger.
As a person who has very little experience in operating a firearm, this basic video is extremely helpful. Thank you!
Good video, straight and to the point, no rocket science involved.
+Pablo Suarez That's the point!
+The Korengali (Kore) yes very simple
yes because back before youtube, anyone who did not know how to shoot a gun well thought it was rocket science
*This was the utterly-simple shooting system that would make anyone face any situation with the steel-eyed calm confidence of a seasoned shooter*.--->t.co/N1PnSr7PnT
Totally agree with you. No messing about. Says exactly what needs to be said.
This was just what I was looking for - a review of the fundamentals - because every round really counts when ammo is so scarce and so expensive.
Clear, simple, and straightforward. Great lesson!
YA! It's when my wife had her ah- ha moment. Sight alignment she finally got the concept from this vid. Now she is sighting the door knows Centers of pictures hanging in house.light switches...she's got the concept. I'm taking her shooting tomorrow, will report back....thanks for sharing 🍸
great tip vid. i had alot of issue with the follow through. i kept on releasing all the way and my shot would go low and to the left. Another thing here i didnt notice you touch on which i struggled with was the amount of tense pressure my strong hand would give vs pressure my weak hand gave. If your strong arm is too tense and in fact too strong it will cause a sway effect due to the anticipation if the recoil.
Finally a left hand shooter with simple fundamental instructions! Thanks
Excellent perspective when you'd filmed the sight reference.
Excellent video.
Exactly the same stuff I'm currently learning in a 3-day Combat Pistol Class.
After 26+ years of doing things a certain way on the job; this Old Dog had to learn some new tricks.
Rewiring my muscle memory to shoot with my feet parallel and arms straight out was a Bįţçh. But I finally got it !
BTW, your trick with practicing on the tiny target silhouette is great. It's something that can be done anywhere.
Keep up the good work !
waded through tons of irrelevant and unhelpful videos searching for this only to see this pop up in suggestions and find exactly what I was looking for. Well done no BS
Thank you for this. Last time i went i was pulling to the left. Figured it was my trigger pull, so I'll be working on follow-through next time on top of trigger control.
That is called a center hold. When in the military shooting the National Match course for the U.S. Army I used a 6 o'clock hold, either on the bottom of the 9 ring or at the bottom of a full or partial silhouette, when using iron sights. For combat during war, some other type of competition, and hunting game I use the center hold that you use, obviously before changing my point of hold to correct for atmospherics for a fast shot at range. Thank you for this basic video, good job.
Incredibly clear and intelligent video. Extremely well done and I appreciate it thank you.
I was on a Division pistol team while serving in the Army (Infantry) in the 1960's. Enjoyed your basic fundamentals pistol shooting video. Couldn't find anything wrong with it ... and believe me, I was looking.
Finally a left hand shooter RUclipsr
I've looked at some vids on correct pistol shooting grip and your is the first I heard talk about pulling the trigger with just the tip of the trigger finger. Glad I watched this vid as I just bought my first handgun and havent shot it yet. I am going for instruction in 2 days and that tip was something I woulda never thought of. Thnx 😀
+Paladin Mini Yea, and remember its not really the tip, just the first pad of your finger.
GOOG JOB!.. plain, simple and to the point... thanks for the refresher!
Sir
It always comes down to fundamentals. Always! I noticed I was hitting low and left more often than not. Mind you.. I was trained by the United States Army, so I'm not a stranger to guns. My primary weapon was an AR-15, which I have one of those too. But my issue pistol shooting, was I didn't have my wrist straight. It had the barrel pointing slightly low. Once I fixed it, I was putting pretty decent groupings together. Now with that 556.. I'm a whole different beast!
Nice video! Thank you for your service as well. My brother was in Juan's unit. They lost a lot of good men.
I'm not keen on the intro, but that's not what matters here. I loved this video. To the point, informative, and well demonstrated. Thanks for the upload!
Great "how to", but a beginners course is where you explain the why of something. Many shooting Instructors get this wrong, as you just did when you said, "we arent going to get into that." Professional instruction is about education and the reasons why we do what we do, is just as important as doing it. Explain why the high grip, explain why the weak hand cups the strong and why the grip is covered both sides, explain why we stay focused on the target, explain why we go front sight, then rear sight, explain the trigger pull and whats happening during that pull. I would say to make this a first time shooting a gun video and make another one as a part 2 for the second time a person shoots a gun. That way its an Instructional video series on how to shoot a gun for beginners.
just learn 2 trigger motion. slightly put pressure on trigger until it stops.then aim and shoot.this is the most important thing you must learn to have accuracy.
Great camera work!😎
I'm left handed and appreciated your vid.
Always good to go back to basics to maintain good shooting habits. Good review.
I have a tiny DB9. It was jamming at first but that was due to me "limp wristing" when I was shooting. Now it feeds flawlessly. My rounds are hitting low and to the left. I know it's my trigger pull. The recoil of the DB9 is such that the trigger guard bangs against my index finger when I shoot it. It's a good little gun but it takes a lot of practice to shoot it accurately. My Barretta is a little easier to shoot accurately. Thanks for the video. I learned a few things and I will practice them next time I go to the range.
Broken down so simply. Excellent view of sights and target.
Nice thanks. Very informative for a first time shooter without being long winded
Thanks Koren! Wow, you hands can really keep that front site steady!!
+Taka Yama Appreciate it!
Left handers never disappoint in anything...great video
great video just what i learned a couple of years ago.
very good information
This is one of the main videos I seen over and over that really helped me become a better shot....plus helped me passed my work semi anual quals! ! I blacked out my front sights so all i see is blackend sights! Thanks!!
+SergAlvarado That's awesome to hear man!
Thank You once again!! The course was from the 5 yard line up to the 35 yards back. 50 rounds!
Badass, glad to hear it helped! Wish I could actually be an instructor! haha
Very simple, straight, sharp & short! Thanks man
In the german military cold shots ( discharging a pistol without a cartridge in the chamber ) is forbidden. The fireing pin can break or get stuck. Training ammo with a rubber cushion for the fireing pin is availiable.
No modern handguns that a modern military would issue couldn't handle dry-firing.
I would only add/change that the gun shouldn't come up when you're acquiring your sight picture. You should be moving the gun forward from a high chest position so that it's always pointed at the target. This drastically reduces the time required to dress up the sight picture. It also makes it easier to transition into learning how to draw.
Perfect explanation of the trigger pull definitely gonna apply this
This is wonderful basic shooting.
simple but very informative ....and no"tear your head , rip your face off" music blaring over your voice. thanks
The first knuckle is recommended. If you use the pad thr trigger wont b as crisp and your more likely to either flinch or pull the gun to another side. This is for all shooting. I shoot trap for my school and when I learned about this my average went up by a lot. Great vid!!!
MilkMan19 Thanks!
An Isoceles has both feet the same distance from the target. This gives you equal balance regardless of which direction you turn. The force of a handgun going off wont affect your balance.
+CncObsession .....
CncObsession ....All goes back to your training, 19 years ago weaver stance...today isosceles.....all what you are comfortable with. In the end..."the mind will never go where it has not been".... so do what works for you, as long as your rounds are hitting their mark....
Most Excellent, In the 60's in Navy boot camp our chief gave everyone a pistol sight picture on cardboard to look at and told to look at with both eyes open at arm's length for weeks before range time, all 80 shot perfect at quals. As far as rifles every Marine has to qualify at 500 yards with iron sights, just try 100 yards with iron sights, we are so spoiled with scopes!!!
Great video. Clear and concise delivery.
Excellent way to explain shooting method
Great. Thanks. Old shooter can still learn. These are great just to stop old habits and new habits that are throwing off your groups. Again. Thanks.
That's all well and good, providing your back sight is inline with the front. I go as far as to take the back sight off to insure I get good with just the front sight. Then put it back on.
Excellent video and actually very effective tips. I've used these and have improved quite a lot! Thanks man.
+Joe Lewis Great to hear!
I learned a few things, thanks!
Very easy to understand.
Very good video. One suggestion, on the trigger reset towards end, you might show gun from side so people can see that you are just releasing finger until the click, not letting trigger all the way out. Nice video, thanks.
Nice video! Short & sweet. Straight to the point. Well done! I like your use of the video camera & your sight picture. I've watched every episode of "American Airgunner" & every other air gun video I could find on You Tube. I've never seen anyone line up the shot with the camera as clearly as you did...
Great video! It was really helpful...’holding the trigger back’
Two in the chest and one in the head, Glock 26 , great choice, thank you kindly for the video, up the hill😊🇺🇸
Good to find a Southpaw demoing this. Thanks.
This really helped me out as a female who isn't familiar with shooting a pistol!
Good video, well done and to the point. Thanks, and looking for more of your stuff.
MAN! I've searched far and wide to find this, just what I needed. Especially the points about pulling the trigger straight back and keeping the trigger back after firing to get back on site. I'm new and went to the range last week and my shots were way off and I couldn't understand why, I mean I thought the site was on the target, but maybe when pulling the trigger I pulled away from it? Thanks though..
Thanks for sharing this video!
A lot of good info here. I'm a new shooter and all this tips are pretty helpful, thanks
Good videos! and if you served in the Korengal Valley, God bless you and your brothers. Much love and respect from my entire family
I did and I appreciate it!
+The Korengali (Kore) Thank you SO much!! My newest hero.
Did you serve with Pfc Restrepo?
+michael williams my unit replaced theirs, so no.
I see. Won't bug ya. But I'll share all of your stuff with my shooting friends. Best of luck!!
do you teach?
Very good. Simple info, straiht to the point, and clearly stated. I like this video.
Great video, got straight to the point. Thanks
Thanks! Very well shown and explained!
very good video.
+Derrick Barkley Thanks!
Very, very good video!
Thank you for a simple informative video.
great fundamental tips brother..great video
Nice video - very useful for me (a newbie). Thanks
Great video.Job very well done.
Very good video I've been watching aiming video's all day and for the first time in my life I've heard focus on the front sight..I cant wait 'till income tax time..just can't make up my mind between Springfield Subcompact .40 or the Glock 27 .40 Great Vid thanx a million
+James Martin Awesome! It's a totally personal choice...with that said, get the Glock!
Yes I sure will I've decided to go with Glock 27 Thank You so much for your video(s)
great video very helpful short straight to the point
Some extra tip i saw from navy seals basically how you hold the pistol matters greatly, def practice your grip. Plenty navy seal videos on that subject.
Great tips, thanks.
Thanks. Very good video for newbies like me.
Excellent video! Thank you
Great instruction and visuals!! THX!
Great trigger pull, something I'm working on...thanks for the video
thanks!
I like the way you explain everything. Thank you
Clear and concise. Well done.
Very, very nice. Thanks
Well explained. Great job and thanks.
Wonderful tips👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Super helpful...thank you
Great video, thank you for the tips...very well explained
Where to put your finger depends on the length of your finger and the position of the trigger on the gun.
Very helpful, thanks for posting.
Leftie like me as well. Great no nonsense video for a noob like me. Thanks for making it.
Thanks for the tip about not letting go emeditly
Nice. Add a few points for humility too. Nice video for anyone, regardless of experience.
Awesome video
I'm going to try you tips next week. I keep pulling most of my shots to the left and I'm a right handed shooter. Looking at you video I think it maybe the way I pull the trigger.
Derrick Lawrence i1082.photobucket.com/albums/j370/flacount/Untitled.jpg use that target! It has done me wonders!
as always very informative and to the point
Straight to the point thx bro
thats so nice shooting guide good video
Great advice, good video man
Very well said
what did you use to paint the sights?
Different shades of fingernail polish do just great and is what I use !!!
It isn't a 'tang'. It is call a 'back-strap'. Tangs refer to shot guns and rifles, used to marry the tang to the butt stock. Tangs haven't been made in handguns for decades. Not for modern day handguns anymore. Firearm information has changed and we must keep up with it, including firearm terminology. Also, the isosceles is with both feet parallel. One foot back is the Weaver Stance. Per NRA, it is not a 'weapon', but it depends on if your teaching an NRA class or not. If you are going to rack the slide back, please show how it is done the right way, using your weapon side arm, not your support hand. The best way to describe the "trigger pull", is to pull using the pad of your trigger finger, where the nail bed begins on your fingernail.
I love your passion. Nice job. Keep learning.
No bullshit, straight to it. Thanks.
Love what you did to that weapon.. Top Notch 👌
+Tony Glenn Appreciate it man!
Good points, also remember grip tightness.
as am I. ive been having some issues with shorter ccw guns and this may help. Thank you
Sight radius is sometimes and issue with smaller handguns. Its nothing good technique can't handle however to help you in self diagnosing your personal training, look into smaller sight radius.
