They were on the same time as Bonanza. I always secretly wanted to watch them, but my family often watched Bonanza. I was a teenager, and they very much appealed to young people. There was kind of a generation gap at that time. What a gas when they had The Beatles on the show!! Many other great artists too!
I grew up watching and loving the Smother's Brothers. I especially enjoyed Pat Paulson. One time, he said, "Last week, we showed you how to make a bullet-proof washing machine..." Concerning activism, I was in peace marches at the age of 8. As I grew up, I realized that the rock bands of those eras were singing about this 'new world' that is 'just around the corner.' For example, Jimi Hendrix sang about the 'new mother earth,' where peace and justice reigns. That was Tom Smother's message as well.
Yet, I found that true justice is found only in Jesus Christ. The very faith that Tom rejected is the chief cornerstone for world peace. Are we, the peace marchers, the activists, part of the cure or part of the problem? Just one lie makes you a liar and one theft, a thief. Should liars and thieves be the moral leaders, the conscience of a nation?
Soon, Christ will judge the world in righteousness. Lying thieves will not make it to the real 'new world.' In heaven, there is no war, no greed, nor hunger. Christ died on a Cross so that we may know God and live in peace and justice. Lying thieves will be outside, howling, wronging each other, living in utter torment. Heaven is real, but so is hell. Hell's torment lasts forever, but Jesus Christ is the light of the world.
