Florida teen faces added charges in deadly Ybor City shooting

- The Tampa Police Department has added additional charges against the 14-year-old suspect, Kayden Abney, including second-degree murder, attempted aggravated battery and attempted murder. Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said during a Wednesday evening news conference that the second-degree murder charge directly relates to the death of 20-year-old Harrison Boonstoppel, one of the two victims killed during the shooting in Ybor City on October 29.

Back in the late 90's early 2000's, TPD cracked down hard on Ybor. Wouldn't say it was completely safe, but as long as you were on or near 7th, you were generally fine. These days they let up, and well...

I made the mistake going to Ybor City on a Saturday night 2 months before this shooting. I vowed never to go there again at night and if I go during the day, to go armed. Purchased my first pistol, got hundreds of hours of training and a ccw. Now, I will not go to Ybor or St Pete unarmed after 4 confrontations with homeless and robbers. I fled CA for here and am concerned that this is how CA started the slide into the disaster it is today. Pinellas County Sheriffs just made a huge drug arrest and that is what fuels the disaster in SF, LA and Sacramento so I am confident this Sheriff dept and DA are actively dealing with this. This DA, unlike Gascon in SF, and now LA, is letting the youngsters know they will be charged. Had a neighbor attacked by 4 teenage black males with baseball bats as he exited a gas station. To my knowledge, no arrests after 3 months. Car break ins are a way of life. Did no one learn from Trayvon Martin who was given a pass on crime? There should be strict enforcement and severe penalties for teenage criminals. Remember the 4 girls chased by police who drove into a pond and all drowned around 2014? None older than 16 and among them they had nearly a dozen prior stolen car arrests.

Ybor is terrible. My mom locked her car door at a red light and the homeless guy came up banging on her window all mad. Its bad man
There are so many violent crimes in the Tampa Bay area that are not publicized. My friend got shot on Columbus Avenue by a jit in a hoodie who they never found. Believe me, I worked in juvenile detention in Hillsborough and Pinellas. They get a slap on the wrist when they do get caught. So....they continue working on their rap sheet until they finally get killed or end up in prison.

Ybor has always been a place that is risky to go at night. Why 14 years olds are out at that time give tells you the kind of parenting they get.
