Hey Graham, I woke up on a bit of a downer here in Canada today, now while watching this you have cheered me up! Many thanks, and don’t underestimate your impact on people worldwide!
Hi Graeme, another great video capturing the essence of simple fishing pleasure. I have the same problems with split shot but now use Stotz made by Preston's much easier to put on the line, I use style pincers to do this.To get same line on the river try overcasting, clip up and wind in say 10 turns which will give you enough line to trot down a slow river and try preloading wagglers with lead wire. Hope that helpsu
I have just come across your channel I am just a beginner to coarse and trout fishing and I found this helpful ready for when I hopefully go river fishing
Graeme Pullen you are an inspiration. you and your son continue to provide me with totally awesome fishing techniques and old school methods which I particularly enjoy. As a beginner in comparison to TA I would like to know as I approach a water how can I get the most accurate reading of what is happening below the surface.Best regards Dan Pearson
Danny Pearson it sort of depends on the type of fish you are going for and what the weather is like to where you fish in the lake/river on certain days some fish come to the top and near the weeds and on others they are right at the bottom in the middle so u need to test different areas to see which places work better for you.
watched this video several times, still enjoying it! Haven't caught a single fish out of the broads yet. Probably all the fish are up in the boat yards and 99% of them are off limits to anglers. Soon be end of the season and hopefully something will show up on the beaches.
Loving the videos. As someone new to fishing as a pass time, it would be a bit of useful information if you included a date of when the video was shot. For me personally, it would help with what can be expected throughout the year. 'Sterliing' work though guys!
Just got back to fishing after 35 years away (tackle got stolen out my shed in 1989)...thought my eyesight was fine but threading a size 18 yesterday took an age 😅 only caught one roach about half a pound on the suffolk stour but at least didn't blank . Great channel 👏 🎣
what an inspiring video..can't wait to go fishing now. roll on weekend. Thanks TA guys for all the great tips you give us ..might be greedy but more more more please lol ...
Hi Graeme you asked if you have caught a Perch that didn't swallow the hook?. I picked a tip up to improve more successful bites. Off centre the hook. I do this with all my hooks now because i find it's a rarity to catch a Perch that has swallowed the hook.
I see carp in fall eating acorns falling of the trees,so I started fly fishing them with an acorn imitation 35 pounders all day. I still can't believe it works. tight lines from Canada mate
Hi Graeme, Enjoyed the video as always and as an angler of similar age to yourself with similar eyesight I can fully understand why you hate shotting floats and tying size 18 hooks....it sucks! I was wondering could you use dead wax worms to bulk out groundbait for bream?, a pet shop near me sells huge bags of them for a quid and as a tight Yorkshire man I like to make my own ground bait, as well as a lot of my own tackle I may add. Cheers Tim ( a fellow oldie)
I've seen people use live waxworms and they caught a big chub and perch and trout but I would think dead waxworms might work because they are basically a bigger maggot
Im 2 years late but oh well. Perch tend to hold onto the bait for a while until they have eaten it similair to pike. They will start to move when they have eaten it
+Reiss Cooper Wrong !! I did the floatfishing film BEFORE the perch one,so I had never fished there before when I did it.The Perch was a second trip. Not old age,I still have 3 brain cells left....(Or was it 2 ? I might have used one up on the last film)
Interesting to know but did you catch any shopping trolleys where you were casting with the feeder? I remember jumping off of that bridge when we were kids and a friend got the good news from one.
A joy to watch as always. Happy days. I keep hearing something something, "match rod" what does it mean? Is it just a posh one? has our is our Totally Awesome master of thrift splashed out?
missed a few bites on your feeder rod, could of had 7 species hehe, I definitely would of gone to the pub for a jug whilst fishing 🍺 nice spot though...
You need a "bodied" float.Sounds like you are using a straight stem.Check with your local tackle shop, they may be able to help you. Mine is a bodied Avon, taking about 3bb shot, but faster rivers need heavier shotting.
on your mainline put the float and the shot then some kind of connection knot like a surgeons loop or whatever and then a hook link maybe a shot on the hooklink too, i use this rig when in snaggy conditions so i dont lose my whole rig or when i need to use really fine line to not spook the fish.
i fish a really snaggy river so this rig saves me lots of floats and shot. watch this from 9:15 ruclips.net/video/-qV5uuukSTw/видео.html its a video i made about catching minnows to use as perch and trout bait here i used a hooklink on a float rig :)
What he's saying is people used to just fish for fun and try to catch different species, but now it's more competitive who's caught the biggest carp etc :/
+Liam Andrews people will make a competition out of anything: running, kicking, logging, eating and spitting, building and destroying, and... yes fishing and hunting too. I just say just pay them no mind and do your own thing. If that's fun for them leave them at it. The only thing I object to is people fishing loads of fish (mackerel being the prime example) and then not knowing what to do with them because they pulled up fifty in an afternoon. That is criminal waste.
Zante its just said that when im chilling at my swim and people come over and ask whats the biggest ive had today, or whats best to get the biggest etc
Anyone help out new to fishing. How far up the line does the float need to be away from hook. And any tips to help catch any fish. Thanks love the vids
Jack Carr the distance between the float and the hook depends on the depth of the water, get yourself a plummet which will help you to determine the depth of the water you attach it to the hook with the float attached to the line,if the float sinks move it closer to the rod and if it lays across the water adjust this till the coloured part of the float sits perfectly in the water, add your shot and you should be fine 👍
Jack Carr finding out the depth the fish are at , then setting that measurement from float to hook . your bait is then where the fish are . generally speaking . I'm new to fishing too : )
United Mike ManU Mate he’s an absolute disaster! After I saw him drop the umpteenth one on the floor I stopped the video! I agree, very poor example of how to fish and be responsible and respectful to the fish caught.....
Hey Graham, I woke up on a bit of a downer here in Canada today, now while watching this you have cheered me up! Many thanks, and don’t underestimate your impact on people worldwide!
Heard that many times before...T.A. Fishing films are some sort of therapeutic when people are down..glad it helped..more films to come.
If I woke up in Canada I would be on a downer too with that prime minister you have
How refreshing, the simple pleasures of fishing shine through.

Very nice man. I'll have to give float fishing a try this spring when the ice melts. It should be fun. Thanks for the tips
Cheers for this Graeme, this is very local to me so might have to check it out
Nice video, Graeme. I never realised the thames was so big that far up. Looks like a nice spot!
It's amazing how similar Roach are to Golden Shiners here in the states. It's a really good time getting into a big school of Shiners.
i didnt think many people fished for them in the US?
what bait do you use?
Love it, gunna try the slingshot bait shooting when the ice melts

I love the post of fishing podcast, especially the beautiful scenery and affable gentleman, great one
.
Graeme, another very informative video.
Small fun fish are great. Mind you, your small fish are what we would use for live bait.
+Andy's Fishing Thank you
Love both of your channels!
Andy's Fishing b8y
Andy's Fishing Wild Cook There’s always a bigger fish?
very good as always, thanks for posting

Size 18 ..??? I think I am done with those at my age...maybe just as a ready made hooklink, but tying them might be a thing of the past ..!
Best fisherman on RUclips
Please do a float fishing on a fast river video
this is the beast fishing show iv ever saw iv subscribed and can you do some more float fishing because when i go fishing i always go on float

It’s good to have a assortment of colours for maggots one of each colour
You should try spinning for perch on the canal see if you do good
I see carp in fall eating acorns falling of the trees,so I started fly fishing them with an acorn imitation 35 pounders all day. I still can't believe it works. tight lines from Canada mate
that sounds epic, is it a dry fly acorn?
BUSHCRAPPING Assuming the real acorns float, then yes it would be a dry
Great video guys! I love fishing because it really connects you with nature and its a very peaceful passtime!:)
+Spinofan12 That's what it's all about!
- Mike
The fishig is great i like the bit where the ish jumps off the hook!

8 times out of ten the perch swallows the hook for me but roach bream just hook it nicely in its top lip
Im 2 years late but oh well. Perch tend to hold onto the bait for a while until they have eaten it similair to pike. They will start to move when they have eaten it
You've fished across the river out side the tackle shop for the perch video you did, old age your forgetting.
+Reiss Cooper Wrong !! I did the floatfishing film BEFORE the perch one,so I had never fished there before when I did it.The Perch was a second trip. Not old age,I still have 3 brain cells left....(Or was it 2 ? I might have used one up on the last film)

Along the river Shannon there is a lot of huge roach that can be caught on bread
A joy to watch as always. Happy days. I keep hearing something something, "match rod" what does it mean? Is it just a posh one? has our is our Totally Awesome master of thrift splashed out?
+David Harvey A match rod is generally a standard of 13 feet long, 3 piece and is used for floatfishing....in competitions,or "matches"
+TAFishing thanks
A tip for you..... try not keep dropping them lol love all your videos. From a river wye angler
Please can you go to green field fishery in barkshire thank
Are you going to do any fishing in Norfolk?
Graham! i Have been there you should come down to flaxlands fishery not too far from there it's a lovely lake should make a good video
Please can you do some more carp fishing again thanks
+Harry Rayner We start to carp fish around spring time so not too long!
mike you should do a battle at this swim dropshotting vs float
Graham when you say ‘bran’ to mix with your Baileys, what is the bran? Thank you
Its a horse feed.
TA Fishing ah I see, in addition to the Baileys. Looks like another trip to the shop! Thank you
your videos are great
+matt's pro fishing Thanks Matt
TAFishing it ok
Good for you grae
15 feet plus ? How can I cast with 15+ feet of line hanging out of the tip ring of the rod?
Azam probably a slip bobber setup
Tie a stop know on your mainline and set the depth using a sliding float (inline or otherwise doesnt really matter)
Caught many small perch on buzzers fly fishing never swallowed the fly
what high would u fish for green backs?
what i dont understand about this float fishing is what length you take from the float to the hook ?
The depth from float to bait can be whatever you want.I personally think the closer you have the bait the better your chance of a bite.
What reel are you using on the float rod?
missed a few bites on your feeder rod, could of had 7 species hehe, I definitely would of gone to the pub for a jug whilst fishing 🍺 nice spot though...
Please show setup of float for fast rivers. I tried so many times but float sinks with the stream of water.
You need a "bodied" float.Sounds like you are using a straight stem.Check with your local tackle shop, they may be able to help you. Mine is a bodied Avon, taking about 3bb shot, but faster rivers need heavier shotting.
AWESOME!!!
Grate video
that doesn't fix the problem with my bobber fishing where the float don't stay at one place after cast causing the main line to drift due to the wind.
Video on wednesday? still a video comming out on friday??
+Elias Olsson Yep, double upload week :)
+TAFishing Awesome!!
Love double upload week.
+Andi Burton One day it might be!
hook link? is that the main line to hook? i understand a hook link on ledger but not float :/
on your mainline put the float and the shot then some kind of connection knot like a surgeons loop or whatever and then a hook link maybe a shot on the hooklink too, i use this rig when in snaggy conditions so i dont lose my whole rig or when i need to use really fine line to not spook the fish.
ah good idea thanks. been many times iv lost my float and bits cought in a snag. cheers

Have you ever caught a pike down the Thames?
Can you make a long bobber
what do you do with those fish after?
He eats them alive
+Owen Wigley Release them all
ah ok awsome
Yea I saw u get a bite on the other pole
What type of fishing license do you need for this type of fishing
A National rod license and then a permit or similar for wherever you fish. Local tackle shop should explain better.
@@TAFishing cheers and thank you for the reply
my only perch was small and did not swollow
Shouldn't be nutting in the fishes mouth mate
While I enjoy these video's how can he possibly divide his attention between a float rig and a quiver tip. What happens if both go at the same time
Double the excitement factor !
never had the problem of maggots/worms wriggling off a barbless hook :S
Ok thanks
I have caught perch without them swallowing the hook
were do you fish i want to go to the fisheries

if you are after perch set it between the bottom and half way up they arent too fussy about presentation.
i regularly just guess my depth haha

very informative but have bit of respect for the fish dont throw them in net
