OK, I have these and here's a mod you MUST do! If you have a battery and a trolling motor it will push down on the middle bar and make the ends curl up. Simple fix! Cut a piece of wood, 2"wx 1/2"thick and 18" long. Deflate the pontoons and shove it between the two rings that hold the bar. Done!
Also, forget the clamp attachment rubber insert that is put down in the hole that attaches the bar rings. At ACE they have these new "Butterfly screws that are amazing. They look nothing like the ones you put in walls. Ingenious on how they work. Just ask them about the 8" long plastic ones. After you insert them down in the hole, you snap off the 8" piece.
We have a vintage Hobie Tandem Mirage. I believe 2001 model unless I misread the serial number. We would greatly benefit from the Pontoon’s as we are in our late 60s. Would we be able to mount these on our kayak? Thank you. Steve Foley
With the bar being drilled so close to the back of the seat, is there room to paddle if my peddle drive goes down or breaks? Or will the paddle hit the akas? Thanks
I just bought the kicks and I have one question and one remark. Is it better to surf launch/land with or without (can't find videos) and the idea of taking them out while in the ocean is nearly impossible at least brand new, as they are EXTREMELY tight fit. I'm sure in time they may eventually get loose. I am considering sanding them a bit
We recommend launching through any sort of substantial surf with the sidekicks removed. Small, ankle high surf shouldn't be an issue, but for anything larger than that it's best to remove them and install them once outside the surf zone. If you want to lightly sand the end fittings to get them to insert to the crossbar more easily, you can do that - just be cautious to not over sand.
I feel bad and I have to confess. The extreme tight fit was a one time thing. I had to use both my feet to remove them that first night but the very next time I tried, (one week later) they went together and came apart without extraneous effort.whatever it was that was binding,(paint maybe) has been freed and it works fine. I installed them on my Revo 13 and am extremely happy. Forgive my rush to judgement . I received them in the evening and was excited anyway but I wish I had tried them again right away. Tomorrow morning I will attempt the assembling of them from my front storage hatch while on water.woot woot!
@hobieofficial I have the Hobie Outback H Rail Upgrade Kit installed on by 2022 Outback. Can I also install the Ama kit? In the video it looks like the AMA mounts will fit under the H Rail, but I can't tell for sure. Thanks!
@@HobieOfficial No it does not exist. I saw a video of the Hobie Compass Installation Series, but no video of the Sidekick Ama Kit. Can this kit be attached to Compass?
I have the side kicks and i have a video on my channel too about the side kicks. Grate product i like them a lot. But there are two thinks about i dont like... 1. You have to make the plastik thiner to put them easyer together. 2. They are shaking around. Sorry for my english iam swiss. Check my video out to know what i mean.
You are right. I installed the Hobie Sidekicks and had two major issues. The outrigger arms did not fit into the centre tube that is attached to the kayak. I had to file them and even after that not easy to insert and remove. Also difficult to rotate the arms to adjust float positions. The "buttons" that you press to insert the arms eventually broke. Considering the high price the quality of this product is exceptionally poor. I also has issues with my Hobie Kayak. Seat plugs would not stay in place so the seat moved around. The mirage drive was very difficult to install and often came loose from the cam locks. Overall. considering the very high price for Hobie products they do not deliver on quality in my experience.
It's enough lubrication to just spread a little water on the bars and inside the pontoon rings. It still needs some muscular turning back and forward while pushing the bars into the rings. Oh, and don't have the pontoons fully inflated when pushing the bar in the rings. Fully inflate afterwards.

I just got a passport....really thought out....not a toy...for real, a real water device
You have the 10.5 or 12?

That's a Hobie for you! They are all pretty seaworthy craft
@@norrispalmer3250 nice one you start with hobie you don’t stop.
I have it installed on my Revolution to use with my sail. Hobie used to recommend screwing the wellness by hand.
Power tool screwing is an easy way to mess up a kayak. It's a very small job, use a hand screwdriver!

Need an extender to be able to mount behind the seat on the wider Pro Angler.

Buenas noches hobie te pregunto no sera mejor ponerlos en los H-rail de atras para no rotar el kayak?
After you come in can you change from pontoons to the wheels using the bar mount
nice 5 stars for Hobie
But will the well nuts just pull back up since there is no nut inside the boat to hold them in place? Or no expansion-bolt type of hold.
The center bar should be test ft before drilling either side.

Thanks for the response that's really the way I was leaning. I will be cautious when I sand the inserts.

Yes, when will a kit be available for the Pro Angler? 🤔
That would be great if it was. I would put on on my PA
Would it work on the new Hobie Mirage Passport 10.5ft?
I am about to install one on my 10.5, should work. I will post results soon.
