    Great video, Casey!!
    Thanks for helping publicizing the 4th Annual Shinoda Reunion ... but even more, thanks for your plans to participate!!!
    Looking forward to more videos!
    (P.S. -- I think you are correct about the operation of the Detroit Slider. It has to shorten on Accel and lengthen during Braking.)

    I was there as a 12 year old, at The Groove Raceway, in Royal Oak, MI, a few blocks from the Woodward Ave. street racing venue. We wound our own motors. We put the silicone on our own tires. We soldered our chassis from brass sheet and piano wire. The Shinoda wedge was (psychedelic) revolutionary.

    Glad I stumbled across this. It's been over 50 years since I raced (at the Groove Raceway and Tom Thumb). I was 16 when the tracks closed in Lansing and I moved to nowhere Wisconsin where there were more deer than people. I had not finger prints because I used to pick up parts that were still hot from soldering and I had solder craters on the backs of my hands from splattering solder. Yes, i was clumsy and stupid. My cars are long gone but I still have my Hoffman box minus the drawers than someone stole from me. Fun stuff. Glad to see a new generation of people enjoying the hobby. Good luck to you. Do not get spray glue in your eyes. Ha ha.

    If I ever make it up to Michigan, I'm stopping by this place, no doubt!
    Thanks for the stories. I'm GenX, but my dad used to tell me stories about running slots in the 60s. I've got a small collection (ok not so small) with nowhere to run them. 🤷‍♂️ Wish I had one of these places close.

    Ahhh.....the 60s.....my childhood 😁. Scratch building cars, professional slotcar teams, Car Model magazine. In the late 60s/early 70s I participated in HOMIR.....HO mail in racing!. You got a special mailing box for your car and you sent it in with 50c which covered the entry fee and return postage. They would race your car in either a scale 1/4 mile or flying mile (they alternated every month) against kids from all over the USA and send back the car with the printed results. The cars were classified and the top 3 of each class received a ribbon in the proper color. I still have a printout and the ribbon I won.

    i grew up in Daytona Beach in the 1960's and was extremely active in slot car racing . the best race track there was one of the tom thumb tracks . it was a very active area with lots of tourist visitors . the best motor at that time was a Globe engine , 15,ooo rpm and Atlanta

    My first slot car was a Russkit, BRM formula car. came in a box, carrying case. My Lola GT in the period would pop wheelies due to the torque.

    Its cool to see that slot car racing is even still a thing. I have been wanting to get into it since I was a kid but haven't had the means to get into the hobby full time. Now being 26 I have been getting interested in the hobby again. I have been super interested in Shinoda style cars.

    • @CaseyPutsch
      @CaseyPutsch  4 года назад

      Do you live close to Detroit?

    • @Naraousan
      @Naraousan 4 года назад

      Sadly I do not. I live in Dallas Texas. Ive been since looking for slot car groups out here. When I was growing up in California there was an old hobby shop that had a slot car track that initially got me interested in the hobby when I was into rubber band powered airplanes and model car sets as a kid. It almost seems like slot car racing kind of faded out on this side of the state. I thought about trying to design my own slot car body and making my own track to potentially experiment with aerodynamics.

    I have a 1964--65 1/24 slot car from Huntsville, Ala, where NASA was designing the Saturn 5 rocket that went to the moon in 1969. The town was full of designers and engineers. I bought my first car from a Japanese engineer. It had a brass birdcage chassis. It was trick but heavy. I built a super light, sidewinder car with a Corvair, fastback, show--car body. Was thar a Shinobu design ? It. was the Monza GT. I was cheating.. my power brake battery pack was taped uo to hide that there was a small brake battery and a big battery rewired into my lane. Everyone had their speed secrets. I had more valtage In my lane. I out ran the track owner's black Cheetah with a rewind Mabuchi ?.. That was what everyone ran, just about. He snatched up my Monza GT and saw that my motor was stock ! That's the kind of stuff I like, ha ha...
