It could honestly mean all sort of things. The market hasn't been this disconnected for a long time, and it will take quite a while for the changes to play out.

I've seen a lot of people still referring to buff prices for reference for the time being.
I'm not sure if the effect will be as damaging as some might think. Sure, they're be less people to sell to, but the Chinese also hold a ton of the stock of skins at this point, so even if there are less buyers, there will also be less skins on the global market (minus China) so prices might stay the same or even go up on certain items that are overly horded in China... who knows though
This will just increase prices in the Western Markets. And I'm pretty sure someone will come up with a workaround to still have access to China. By someone I mean Western Marketplaces. This is a Shattering but not a bad one in the grand scheme of things.
lol, prices are higher on wetern markets compared to china, for that reason skins are a lot harder to sell there compared to buff which means people will price their skins lot lower on westerns now so they will sell as quickly as they were getting sold on buff.

The economy could collapse and I'd lose like $10k in skins. I'd be a little upset but it's not world ending. If it does happen maybe Valve will finally shift on fixing the game and getting rid of idiots cheating in servers for months without ban.

imo nobody should be predicting anything in the short term for a market that technically depends entirely on what valve decides. it cause the consumers to behave irrationally and makes the market way too volatile
People outside of china need to rally behind one site so it becomes the new standard. That could be csfloat, but as of now, the volume on there is pitifully low. I'm interested to see how it all shakes out.
Simply each one sets their prices, if you like it you pay it. If not, look for another one hahaha. Additionally, you can still exchange Skins for Skins, if you want something expensive, give more skins, then that person is in charge of selling what you have given them in their country. There is no science, very easy. The economy changes a little but I think trading has revived for those who dedicate the time.
Guess I'm stuck with my boring skins now, I used to change knives from buff every week or two so the game feels fresh. Crafts are easy to find too. Not to mention the skins sell fast.

I never had access to buff myself here in na. “Pricing” but float is all ive really used and usually just did a mix of the two to find my pricing. But its been really close to buff for a while now especially on higher tier items, but deposits cost a bit more and fees arr a bit more so same same but different.

Left field question but did anyone else notice how drastically skins changed on cs2? I played cs2 on launch and alot of my skins look heaps worse on cs2 now that ive picked it up again. The starlight protector looks dull now it used to shimmer.
I think the prices of some items will go down and for other skins not so much (like the dragon lore for example), as its access is cut off all together with the chinese pool (buff).

I hope prices go down again but with 1m+ players I don't see it happening. A lot of skins which I'm interested in are limited supply and were dropped when playercount was 200k with far less interest in skins.

CSFloat will be that go-to alternative is my guess. Relatively low fees and focused on the intricacies of skins just like Buff was. And basically everybody has been using their extension already so they aren't nobodies

75~80% steam price will do pricing for most of skins except really rare and expensive one, but selling is going to be pain in the ass.

Trying to think about it economically that means supply is now split in half making it artificially lower for everyone. So if demand is still the same prices could go up. Or prices could go down outside China if the demand is only in China and vise verse. I have a feeling it will not be easy to predict what goes up and what goes down. I do think the bot farmers are crying though, so that is always awesome.

The problem with sites outside of Asia is that KYC is needed to even sell skins there. Buff doesn't have this so it was great place to trade your skins.
Explain to me how KYC is a problem for anyone other than a child or someone using a sketchy site.

U can pay for a proxy kyc but if they get caught ur account is basicly dead cuz u cant get customer support as ur id wont match with the identity card. (my wechat got locked now after using proxy kyc cuz they will force u to update the info from time to time. ( u need to send a new pic of the identity card which u wont have))

You don't own those skins, Valve can change them, even remove them from your account for whatever reason they see fit, goes for games too, the investors don't own anything, if they lose out it's their own fault for throwing money at something they haven't read the rules on. Remember, just because you've bought a skin, doesn't mean you own it. I've been loving all these meltdowns from skins looking different, it's all their own fault.

There is plenty of overseas Chinese, Chinese students studying abroad, Chinese in China with foreign bank accounts, foreigners living in China with Chinese bank accounts. Shouldn't make too much of a difference, just a smaller group of people can be the bridge. The bigger problem is I think as soon as someone high up in the Chinese government realises the damage cs gambling, including case opening is doing to kids the game could get completely banned in China.
This just seems like natural selection to me, cs gambling effected me as I was growing up but it taught me that gambling will always be a losing battle, and I didn't have to lose my house and family to learn that lesson. Kids who are in shambles because of CS gambling likely would've and will fall into some other trap like alcohol or drugs. Gambling is not good but people need to take responsibility for their actions ffs.

I would prefer more ambiguity in skin prices. As a casual it is more interesting to haggle on trades than just send a screenshot to buff.
I honestly don't think this will be the end of the world. Some skins that are widely popular in china will never recover sure, but for MOST people this wont affect us. Things will continue to be prices based of supply and demand. Without traders being able to easily buy skins for cheap off buff prices may actually rise on normal everyday people skins.

why does everyone think prices will go down? surely they will go up for us westerners no longer having access to the largest market?
Because stock of skins that were selling easily on buff will no longer be selling as easily in western only markets forcing prices to come down. Rarer skins might get more expensive if they become harder to find. But losing access to a market usually means less money coming in and less competition for higher priced items, which means lower prices to keep the money flowing.
