On the Journey, Episode 144: Which Christianity? - Kenny’s Story, Part IV

  • Kenny Burchard continues to share with Matt Swaim and Ken Hensley the story of his journey to the Catholic Faith.
As Kenny discovered more and more divisions among Christians, he became increasingly unsettled by them. He and his wife got into ministry together in the Pentecostal world, but their experience of everything from Christian radio to Christian bookstores and more overloaded them -- was it even possible to know which take on Christianity was the correct one? Could there ever truly be Christian unity?

Thank you for these interviews. My husband and I converted to Catholicism in 2022 and we can’t thank Jesus enough for this journey. Lots of parallels with Kenny’s story: Mark was a pastor for 25 years, also received his PhD in organizational leadership fromRegent, and we were on staff years ago at a 4-square church in Redmond Washington. We both were in YWAM as well. All roads can lead us to Rome.

I don't know what to say.. But how is it that well educated, critically thinking protestants take 25 years to admit their mistake?

@jillherringshaw6647 small world! I used to live in Redmond and drove by the 4 Square church many times. I belonged to St. Jude's while we lived there.

These episodes have been amazing- once again thank you for sharing!
Appreciate the content that you and the others put forth on this channel 🙏🏼
A side note: some individuals have to chosen negatively critique and question the experiences of others by focusing on being rude rather than attempting to understand and engage with the speaker's message and experiences.
This approach is disrespectful as it attempts to negate the their personal experiences.
These types of comments are telling.

When I became Catholic, one of the hardest things for me to do was getting rid of all the Protestant books I had... and I had a lot!!
I couldn't give them away, or sell them, because I didn't believe them anymore. And I couldn't let anyone else read them because I didn't want to be the cause of someone believing wrong because of me selling the books or giving them away... so I threw them away.
I felt awful about that, but what else could I do... 😢

I did the same thing. I saved a few but most went to the landfill.

Oh wow, I did the same thing when pairing down my library. I wanted to donate the books, but didn't want to share false ideas. So I threw a couple 10 gallon trash bags of books away. (But since I'm a tad OCD, I couldn't just throw them away, I had to rip them in half like anything I need to part with. Lol)

For all the nay sayers Jesus established one visible church, Mat16:18 and he wanted it to be unified, Jn17 and the Catholic Church still is after 2K years. The unifying graces are the Eucharist and allegiance to the Pope.
The prots abandoned the Eucharist. The Orthodox abandoned their allegiance.

You've hit the nail on the head with 'abandon'. To me, the modern evangelical church has robbed its followers of sacraments, mystery, and any sort of prayer that isn't their own words. I hear people desperate because the 'don't know what to pray for'. I know God accepts their desperation like Paul's 'inward groaning', but to me they're robbed of lighting a candle, asking the Saints' prayers, or even praying the Lord's prayer, using the name of the person they're praying for. Our local evangelical churches don't even use the Lord's prayer in services (sorry, 'meetings'). In a local evangelical anglican church there is still a tabernacle for the reserved sacrament. It is kept open, and the sacrament has been replaced by a huge, open Bible.

So true, but the prots also abandoned the Authority along with the Eucharist. 💔

I want to mention to you my catholic brothers about what our Lord and God Jesus told his Apostles, and that is Jesus told his Apostles that do not be led astray for I tell you that many shall come teaching in my name saying that I am he the Christ and shall teach many in my name do not follow them, and also John the apostle confirms this in his epistles in John 1 chapter 2 verses 18 and 19

Suggestion for everyone who would be open to a different approach: read G K Chesterton’s “The Thing”.

I need to say this and that is I’m just a sheep in The One Holy Apostolic Catholic Christian Church of Traditional Teachings and Worship, and having said that I have to say this and that is that I’ve never read any in the scriptures that say that Jesus Christ had started numerous different Christian churches from day one of Pentecost do correct me if I’m wrong

Should have stayed in the one true Church that Jesus instituted and worked on that from within; leaving and starting their own song and preach show has just proliferated from 2 or 3 to now nearly 35,000 plus personal human centric entities far from Jesus.

    Psalms 12:6 KJB - I believe God's Word. Not the papacy's heresy.
“The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.”

King James wasn't the 7th English Bible, more like 12th or 13th, so not sure what point you're making.
