If you want someone else on your show, I was raised Jewish, and became an on-fire Protestant at age 17. It took me 6 years of searching/researching. Then I spent 45 years as a preacher, missionary, evangelist, and deliverance minister. I was also strongly anti-Catholic, even to the point of rejecting Christmas and Easter because they were instituted by the Catholic Church. Two years ago, God used an ex-Episcopalian priest to suggest to me that the Eucharist was indeed the real presence of Christ. I knew I couldn't really prove it wasn't, so I set out to find out. This started me down a path of evaluating all doctrines in light of the first century Church. I spent 2 years, 10 hours a day, 7 days a week, investigating everything. Once I found that I was wrong about my views of the Communion only being a symbol, it really made me think that I could be wrong on other things. All during this time I had no thought to become Catholic. I was actually looking to start my own church that would be 100% based on the first century. Only after I had seen how wrong I had been on a number of key doctrines, the thought of becoming Catholic was presented to me. I went to a mass, and was blown away. God caused me to see the beauty of it. At some point I went and asked to join RCIA, so I could learn more. After 4 months, they decided I was ready for confirmation, and now I am an on-fire Catholic. I left out a ton of detail, but that is the general story.
You can learn more about me by reading my book "Sent Out", which is available on Amazon.

I had a similar experience. I was studying Catholicism because I was a Calvinist who knew there were a lot of Catholics out there that "didn't know the gospel." As I tried to convert Catholics, I realized it would greatly benefit me to understand their current beliefs so I could help deconstruct them. Well, long story short...I was confirmed into the Catholic Church this last Easter! I tell people my conversion was a surprise to all, but especially to me!

Dear@@whathappening5323, Fox's book of martyrs? It was polemical, and meant to inflame. The numbers were increased by including common criminals. Did you know that what we think we know about the Spanish Inquisition we learned from Protestant pamphleteers? Someone finally opened the court records a couple decades ago, and found out the truth, which is so much less lurid. They certainly didn't use the "iron maiden" which was a "torture device" that was made as part of a traveling show and wouldn't even work.
There were bad acts done -- don't get me wrong. And there were martyrs. But the victor gets to write history, and "Bloody Mary" was not the victor. Her nickname was not deserved.

Wonderful & very well articulated testimony. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The amount of rich references from Scripture, Tradition, Contextual history of the Church Fathers, Saints old & comparably new were amazing recaps for me. Anybody who is looking at their own Tradition & perhaps even a national 'lens' on their Christianity, but is beginning to see the broader Church through time & cultures can only benefit by taking notes of the references throughout.
Brandon also hit the nail on the head as regards conversation with our Protestant brothers & sisters. I've found starting off by 'defining terms', i.e. Grace, Justification, Sanctification & Merit really helps. The penny drops when we're on the same page so much easier, otherwise I've seen entire epic novel long chatter were people talk past one another.
I also think Brandon's sympathy for Calvin & seeing ( as opposed to a Catholics first reaction ) the human that was trying to be sincere is a great approach. We should follow that example with eachother both in & outside the Church - it's a timely message.
    Thanks so much guys 😊

First of all it is not the church started by Peter! It was started by the Holy Spirit (Pentecost) and study who is always the ROCK in the Bible. Peter was only a "stone". Learn from the original Greek and Hebrew texts.
And I left the RCC about 35 years ago because I started reading the Bible and compared it with the history, teachings, traditions and hierarchy (clergy) of this institution.
Today I know that there is no perfect Christian church/community. Christians still can fail and sin but Jesus is the vine and we are the branches. All belong to his real church who believe in him and who are trusting his words.
      John 3,16
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
      John 8
31Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
      John 14,6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
      1Joh 1,9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purif us from all unrighteousness.
      John 14,23
Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
      Gal 5,22+23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

I like that discussion about Mary, you just cannot pick a certain belief in Catholicism. You have to look at the whole. The Catholic faith is so huge in all aspects that you cannot describe it, explain it or disapprove it just by focusing on one belief. The Catholic faith are these -> the Immaculate Conception, the Eucharist, the Confession, other sacraments, the Pope, the devotion to the Divine Mercy, the Rosary, the Brown Scapular of Mt. Carmet, the stigmatist St. Padre Pio, Mother Thersea of Calcutta, the Lourdes apparition, the Guadalupe apparition, the Fatima apparition, the hundreds of Marian apparitions and its messages, the Pope, the priest, the Eucharistic miracles, the visions of saints, etc.. The Catholic church is the rock Jesus pertains when he was still living on Earth. Protestantism has done so much damage to the true church of Jesus Christ, it has deceived so many people throughout the ages and it will continue on in the future. If you are a young Protestant, I beg you to convert now and don't wait until you are in your 40s, 50s, 60s or 70s before converting to the true church of Jesus Christ. You are missing a lot especially the Eucharist. You can cry and be emotional in your Protestant service but that is not the true worship Jesus Christ handed to the apostles. PLS. OPEN YOUR HEARTS AND MIND NOW!!!!

Under the Apostles, baptism was considered an "elementary" doctrine that everyone learned and agreed upon:
"Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, with instruction about ablutions, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment." Heb 6:1-2

It makes me wonder just how often churches have these pastor problems (infidelity to spouse/other sexual sins)…. I thought it was super rare when it happened at my baptist church in the early 2000s. Head pastor started an illicit relationship w the Music minister’s wife. Almost destroyed the congregation. But I keep hearing story after story of this happening. It’s not shocking that human beings inevitably gonna fail, but it does make sense to me the importance of rooting one’s faith in a robust belief system that outlasts even the worst infiltrators who fail so hard. I feel for those who attend congregations that are super wrapped up in a celebrity pastor… bc when that person falls to sin and scandal, often times it hits the flock so hard, many can’t get over it or feel they have nowhere to go and end up leaving the faith altogether. Very sad.

God's word is God's word and it is up to us wether we adhere to it or not.
Baptism is key and try to learn about the sacraments if you want to see the some of the fundamental differences.

As a former Catholic who had struggled much as to what to consider more reliable - the RC church or the Scripture itself (Based on 2 Timothy 3:16-17, etc.) me and my family still go with the Scripture. Too bad if what seems to be the main argument and the new "set of lenses" on how to look at the Scripture and history for Brandon was skewed by the teaching that one was blind and fallen thus unable to read and understand the Scripture on one's own. If that was so, Lord Jesus would not have repeatedly asked: 'Have you not read?' Or What is written in the Scripture? How do you understand it? and getting the right answer from "fallen and blind" lawyers. Apostle Paul wrote in the Ephesians letter: when you read you can understand... And to Timothy: you need to work diligently to rightly divide the word of truth...

You: And to Timothy: you need to work diligently to rightly divide the word of truth...
Me: And he was "working out his salvation with fear and trembling". I'm sure he meant that he was reaffirming his faith and not engages in working.
You: what to consider more reliable - the RC church or the Scripture itself
Me: When you make a choice you violated Scripture and Christ himself who established his church. Scripture calls the church the pillar and foundation of truth.

      @janfojt172 5 месяцев назад

@@bridgefin In answer to what is Scripture, I just quoted Scripture. Paul's epistles are Scripture. You want to introduce that someone else namely the church needs to decide that. However, the Scripture says that Jesus promised at the last supper the Holy Spirit to bring the apostles into all the truth. (Not the church- only apostles were at the supper with Him) to remind them everything etc. That happened and God confirmed that with signs, wonders, etc. See 2nd Corinthians 12:12 in addition to the Hebrews passage I pointed to earlier. Thus Christians could recognize that it was God speaking through them. Apostles said they delivered everything along with NT prophets, therefore no more Scripture after they are gone. They just made sure we have it in the written form as apostle Peter says. Yes the churches in all places cherished that and should have stood for the truth as a pillar but not as anything more... Refer to Bruce Metzger Canon of NT chapter on the fact the the canon was a list of authoritative books rather than an authoritative list decided by the church.

Me: You quoted Paul to Timothy and Hebrews. You even mentioned Peter. But no where did you point to inspired Scripture to prove that the writings of Peter or Paul were inspired. So who is your inspired source that these are Scripture?
You: However, the Scripture says that Jesus promised at the last supper the Holy Spirit to bring the apostles into all the truth. (Not the church- only apostles were at the supper with Him)
Me: The apostles were the leaders of his church. And that promise was made forever which suggests that the successors to the apostles would enjoy this protection. And Catholic bishops are the successors to the Catholic apostles.
You: Thus Christians could recognize that it was God speaking through them.
Me: Then why did the canon not close until the late 4th century? And why were Christians reading works which later were not included in the canon? It was because we did not have God's final say until some specific point in history.
You: Yes the churches in all places cherished that and should have stood for the truth as a pillar but not as anything more..
Me: Paul makes no restrictions on the Church being the pillar and foundation of truth. He treats this as a presumption needing no further explanation.
You: Refer to Bruce Metzger Canon of NT chapter on the fact the the canon was a list of authoritative books rather than an authoritative list decided by the church.
Me: Too bad that no one had the list until the church produced it in the late 4th century. And from that point on it has been THE canon for Christians.

I’m a bible believing born again Christian who currently attends a Wesleyan Methodist Church in Australia and have had ties with Pentecostal churches and for years I’ve never quite understood the Catholic church or its doctrines and traditions.
I’m very much planted deeply in my church and love my Christian Brothers and sisters. I kind of see some of the theological differences but never saw the importance of perusing the nitty grittiness of it. Like from a Catholic point of view, if I confess Jesus as lord and work out my salvation with fear and trembling . I believe that I’m saved by grace , gods gift and I believe in good works as a result of that and have joy of my salvation. I believe that the Holy Spirit guides me and I believe all scripture is god breathed . My question….. what more can I want ? Like what else am I missing out on? I’ve never really asked a real Catholic this. But really interesting to hear from a Catholic..

The sacramental system of God’s graces, for starters. If Christ truly found a Church and sustains it today, the absolute FULLNESS of His grace and love and power can be experienced in THAT Church. There’s SO MUCH MORE to living the Christian life that can be found in the Catholic Church. Abundant graces that it’s even hard to describe.

@@TheCordialCatholic thanks for replying. I thought gods grace is sufficient. Like I’ve been baptised in the name of the holy trinity and also partake in communion which is done in remembrance of him. So I’m still a bit confused . No doubt stuff Protestants say haha. Well I’ll have to work out my salvation and pray to god to guide me.

Oh indeed God’s grace is sufficient. It’s merely experiencing God’s grace THROUGH the sacraments (which the Catholic Church believes is how God intended) that blows the mind. It’s the difference between praying, by yourself, to ask God for forgiveness and hearing a priest, empowered by the Holy Spirit, to say “God forgives you.” It’s an unspeakable grace!

Ok, would you agree that Australian culture is a little different than say North America? Of course it is. So, if we read the bible from our modern perspective we miss out on many meanings due to the vast difference in our cultures from 1st century holy land jews and gentiles. Add to that that words in Greek have a different meaning and we can effectively water down the real message.
What is the real message in the bible from the old to the new? The old testament was limiting and had physical tangible things to represent God on earth. The tablets were the word, the manna was the bread from heaven, the showbread of the presence was limited to the high priests and the staff of Aaron gave whoever had it Gods power on earth.
and the numerous prophesies of the messiah.
The New Testament what happened to the ark? If you are protestant you don't know, cuz, well A: it's in the old testament. That place where all details are hidden and Christians rarely go except when the need to sleep! Also, it's left out of the protestant bible, the deuterocanonical book of Maccabees.
So, as a 1st century Jew you would be looking for this new Ark that God would reveal? Who is the new ark? Seek and you will find.
Where is the new word of God? What about the manna? The showbread? The power of God?
All these things need to be fulfilled in the New Testament. It's all there in the Gospels, particularly John 6.
Read some commentary on John 6 from a Catholic Scholar. I recommend Brant Pitre he has RUclips videos on the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist.
Remembrance in Judaism is not the same as modern day. You were bring back that event in real time. Jesus is present in the Eucharist. It's him.
People will comment that I'm crazy. But, i'd rather be crazy and aligned with what the first 16 centuries of Christianity believed. Because, the real presence of Jesus in the eucharist was the belief. That is why the apostles died. That is why the apostolic fathers died. they had to deny Christ. If that was real presence, who would deny that? If it wasn't they would have all rolled over and saved themselves from being fed to the lions. Ask yourself, why would they do that if it was just symbolic?
If you read the church fathers you will find the truth. Read them with an open mind. Try to find some that believe in only "Faith alone" or "Scripture alone". That didn't exist prior to the reformation.

Luke 18. The Lord gave a parable. And the parable was of two men that went into the temple to pray; one was a Pharisee, a religionist, a moralist, and the other was a tax collector, which is an outcast.
And this is the way the parable went: “The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people-robbers, evildoers, adulterers-or even like this tax collector.’” That is a typical prayer of a moralist. “I thank You, God, I’m not like other sinners. In fact, I fast twice a week. I give tithes.” Just checking in to let God know he’s still as holy as he’s always been. That’s the moralist.
On the other hand, the tax collector, which is the outcast, standing afar off, will not lift his eyes unto heaven. He is beating on his chest and crying, “God, be merciful to me a sinner.” And Jesus said that man went to his house justified rather than the other.
Morality in and of itself is a damning thing. You’d be better off to be immoral and face the reality of your needs so that you would come to a Savior, than to live under the illusion that because you have a moral code on the outside, all is well on the inside between you and God.
And you see it here. You see it with the Jews. You see it with the Roman Catholics. You see it with Mormons. You see it with liberal Protestants. And you see with the moralists and religionists of the world who pursue a moral approach to life but do not have in their lives the living Christ in them. And any man without having Christ in them will be judged greatly, especially after hearing the true Gospel and rejected.
Because God has ordained a day in which He will judge the world by Jesus whom He raised from the dead. But the Good News is there’s forgiveness for sin to those who truly repent. And real repentance is realizing you’re destitute from any righteousness and you cry out to God for a righteousness you desperately need, which you know you do not have and cannot earn. It’s a beggar’s position because you are overwhelmed with your sin and you cannot do anything about it. Just like the tax collector beating on his chest for mercy. And you come humbly to God and cry out for mercy and forgiveness, and God will reach out by the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ, which satisfied His justice with regard to your sin, because Christ had lived a perfect life and fulfilled every laws that were required. And God in His grace will grant you saving faith.

You said: Morality in and of itself is a damning thing.
Me: No, it is a freeing thing. People who know the difference between right and wrong (morality) have the ability to choose the right which is a choice for God. Ignoring our moral responsibility is what is damning.
You: You’d be better off to be immoral and face the reality of your needs so that you would come to a Savior, than to live under the illusion that because you have a moral code on the outside, all is well on the inside between you and God.
Me: Oh, so its better to sin and sin and then ask for grace than to manage your life to convert to Christ and sin less? Sorry, but that is absurd. The misconception you offer is that one would think they are saved just because they live a moral code without Christ.
You: And real repentance is realizing you’re destitute from any righteousness and you cry out to God for a righteousness you desperately need,
Me: You suggest that one do that at judgment whereas Catholic have the constant opportunity to repent and change our ways through the only method Jesus provided post ascension for forgiveness, the sacrament of reconciliation. The risk of waiting is that you will not do it.

@@bridgefin Morality in itself is a damning thing. A classic illustration would be the conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus in John 3. He came to Jesus and asked about the kingdom of God. And this guy was very moral and knowledgeable of the law. But do you know what Jesus said to him? He said “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Jesus literally tells him, “you know what your problem is? You’re you. Just go back and get born all over again.” Jesus literally obliterated all the religious ceremonies, rituals, and sacraments, morality, and all of it is insufficient. Although Nicodemus was very moral and did a lot of law keeping things, and yet, he was millions of miles away from God.
“Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” And guess what? We have no part in justification. It is the work of God. “The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” Praying for you.

I noticed this with protestants, they tend to look at single verses and ignore anything the conflicts with it even IF there are multiple verses against it. They sometimes link verses but the contradictions still exist. When you study by verse you can really make the bible say anything. It also reminds me how Satan used single verses but then Jesus used a counter verse; so if you can't make one verse work with another verses you might be reading the bible wrong.
