How To PREVENT SUBARU ENGINE FAILURE With This $79 Mod!!

- Subaru motors are almost known for being "unreliable" and blowing up but it's simply because there are a few design flaws these cars come with. If you want to make your Subaru reliable you can do so by doing a few extra mods like an air oil separator, oil pickup tube or the mod that we install in this video, the GetaDom Cylinder 4 Cooling Mod. This cheap and easy modification will help prolong the life of your EJ motor by fixing a cooling issue EJ motors tend to have in cylinder number four.
Of course there's a few more things you can do to prevent your Subaru engine from Rod knock, ring land/ head gasket failure, etc but this is just one of them.
( Something to keep in mind, after filming this video I did some research and learned that this is a Subaru EJ motor problem. the FA motors have a great cooling system so this isnt necessary for ALL Subarus)
Hope this video helps the Subie Bros out there!

That poor top mount looks like it's been catching hands.
You ain't lying 😂 My oem top mount that's been kicked around the garage for 10 years looks better than that
All hype don’t need it. Get a protune save your motor.
Best advice
Could you do a video explaining the technique of tapping the metal T-piece on the bench that allows you to quickly assess the quality of the metal? I think Boeing could be really interested in this one simple trick.
You should replace that intercooler with all the fins bent before...
Content just gets better and better !!
❤️❤️🤘🏼
The shop is coming together especially with the lift
Hey man was just going to recommend that you run the blue subaru Long Life Super Coolant. Definitely better then the green stuff and will help. Only saying because I work at a Subaru Dealer and have done training. Believe me when I say its better. Thats all! Car and shop lookin sick man!
im going to swap out the coolant soon, i was wondering why it wasnt blue but im guessin because it was the long life coolant
@@beakhan yes, just ask for the long life super coolant! Thats the blue stuff. Also thanks for replying, definitely something many creator's don't do!
@@beakhan green coolant is fine, just change every 30k to avoid coolant system corrosion
Its better! Believe me bro! i did the training!
What specifically about the coolant is different and makes it better than the nonproprietary blue coolant brands ? There is so much debate about proprietary maintenance stuff versus aftermarket on the internet. While some aftermarket goods manufactured in certain developing countries with higher corruption and lower safety standards might be dodgy AF, many generic brand names do manufacturing in for example, the U.S. and what about motor companies? They claim their oils and coolants are the very best, but provide no transparency over the supply chain, they could be made in Afghanistan for all we know (joke) . furthermore there is economic incentive for them to dissuade consumers from cheaper aftermarket brands. You're entitled to sh#t your opinion whereever you like but its completely unvalidated and you sound like a shill.
That’s dope gotta get that for my wrx , shop coming together
A 1 inch deep socket would have been way easier to tighten the block fitting
Nice BRGS shirt
This guy is talking about cooling when his intercooler looks like it was run over by a semi.
I don't know if this applies to all chassis but I have a Bugeye and i found it super easy to just pop off my top mount and just do i from above since i don't have a lift to get under
that’s interesting, thinking back i probably mightve been able to do that as well🤔
Updated your fuel pump ASAP lol. Also if you need any work done tune or w.e check out forced induction performance great shop south Jersey area
Yes cylinder 4 is problematic. I did valve adjustments at 112k miles on my "original owner" 2000 Impreza non-turbo and measurments on 3 cylinders where still within specs but cylinder 4 was absurdly tight. No doubt excessive heat contributed to the gross discrepancy. Now that was a non-turbo car! With a turbo engine cylinder 4 needs all the help it can get.
That shirt though! 🙏🏻🔥🔥
Such a fire design🥵🔥
Nice Brz
If you service your WRX regularly you won't have any issues
The more mods you do the more it will cost you when the WRX goes in for service this giys a good salesnan thats it
Where tf was I when my boy got a lift ?! Damnnn the shop coming along FAST & when’s Mcbeth bringing her whips over ? 👀
😂😂 her cars are there all the time haha, working on her Z’s clutch as we speak👀
@@beakhan bruhhh hell yeah 2021 bout to take off for you guys
Shop TOUR when you guys get closer to being “done” lol 🔥💪🏼
for sure! but lets be honest, will it ever be “done” hahaha😂
Meh. This doesn’t fix any issues. Get a good tune and run good gas. If you can. Get a tune for 91 and run 93. Change your oil. Don’t be stupid. Car will be fine.
The more RUclips I watch the more I add to my cart
You explained the theory of how coolant flows the best compared to other videos
Man I love Subies
What I've read is the 2.0L this isn't as big of an issue as it is on the 2.5L. Can you confirm that?
as far as i know its an issue on the ej motor, even on the 2.5 it doesnt have much coolant flow I wouldnt risk it lol
Love this dude!!!
Hey, I was thinking of getting a subaru but there aren't any shops specialized in Subarus where I live. I've already read a lot about the EJ25, if I get one first thing I would be doing would be the safety upgrades such as AOS, cyl 4 cooling mod, equal length headers and killerB pickup tube. The thing is, is it worth getting one if I don't know how to do the maintenance myself and there aren't specialized shops for subarus near ?
I got a 2014 sti and a 2013 wrx with a ej257 and the ej255, from my experience even without all those safety upgrades you’ll be fine if you treat the ej like a ej and not a V8. Basically just keep up with your maintenance and don’t beat tf out of the engine. It is ok to get on it but just don’t beat the motor up. I have somewhat the same issue with no shops being around me so I’ve taken many upgrades into my own hands, it’s not easy but it’s not hard to do certain upgrades.
Advice and help needed. I'm in the UK, have a 2009 impretza wrx hatch 2.5ltr Ej25. Had a code P0422, Throttle position sensor B, intermittent. So OK, just replace the TPS. Nope, looking further, I can see oil buildup on the IC pipe too throttle body. So I'm thinking, Turbo oil seals passing oil to the throttle body and sensor, given false code and poor performance??????
Not sure about your actual issue, but if you don’t already have a catchcan installed, I would highly recommend it. I have them on both my WRX and my daughter’s Forester. They are fairly new so they don’t seem to have a lot of blow-by, but the catch can on my Ford truck captures a ton of of disgusting oil/fuel mixture on a regular basis. Stuff you don’t want in your intake for sure.
@@kevinm5177 Hi, that was my exact plan too instal. Need to get turbo replaced and throttle body plus sensor cleaned. & tested. Along with new spark plugs and plasma coil pack's. I think, engine flush and oil change?. After that, if I still have problems,???
@@cassiejvance7496 Just because there's oil in your intake tract doesn't mean your turbo needs to be replaced. The oil in the intake tract is designed to be there due to oil blow by getting out of your pcv breather which is routed directly into you turbo inlet. This is an issue with lots of factory turbo cars. All turbo dsm's had this problem as well. The solution is to install an air oil separator which the line from the pcv will be routed into and from there back into the intake tract. The AOS traps the oil in the airflow but allows the air to continue on to where it needs to go.
You should probably do that first and while you're installing the AOS you an check the turbo for excessive shaft play to see if t actually needs to be replaced.
would this mod help with a air-fuel ratio error?
i don’t believe so, but it would help keep engine temps down.
Only subaru in America but not in Japan
Please list the torque spec on that job
Left driver side rim??? I like thoseee

I’ve got the cylinder 4 cooling mod
Mines is a Copart rebuild😂👌🏼
I need a Dom still 🥴
you used the wrong coolant, should be blue
that was actually a big concern of mine! But i went to a subaru dealership parts dept. and asked for coolant for specifically my car. I wonder if the employee just wasnt paying attention and I have to go back😅
@@beakhan yea bro i work for subaru & i own 12’ WRX its blue💀
@@Jee-zus nothing wrong with green coolant, just has to be changed more often
@@zachs.9600 i mean I’m no expert but i would go with what subaru recommends just to be safe since they are the engineers
@@Jee-zus the engineers obviously aren’t so great if the aftermarket is constantly making parts to correct their mistakes.
Oof get rid of that grimmspeed AOS it’s garbage. Literally any AOS is better than that one.
I second this statement
@@Smeedia you know what’s up my man!! I’m watching your vid right now on my lunch hour! 😂 ready to see that monster rip!!!
@@Outlier117 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Question lol Trying to see if you had the same problem or not idk but I did the cylinder 4 coolin mod on my 2013 wrx but now I have to keep adding coolant to my coolant reservoir every 2/3 days cars isn’t over heating I see no leaks no code’s either runs fine you think it’s normal or not kinda curious thanks 🙏🏽
Probably burning the coolant.
The joke is, cylinder 4 is the one with the least problems...
Rip the hood😭
Shop mods video ?????
😂i filmed a lot but it never made it to youtube but dont worry we have a lot of shop mods to go hahaha

Does the new 2.4 need this?
I don't think so, but I am not 100% sure. It is more of an EJ engine thing.
