@@btownshreds1 I don't understand why you want him to hit harder... He sound good live and he sounds good on albums, I want to understand why everybody want metal drummers to hit hard. Isn't the goal just to sound good ?
Energy saving mode
I think it is because he is a professional, in that matter he wants to match the volume on the blasts with everything else. Otherwise you get low volume blast, and higher volume on everything else. Drops the musical power of blastbeat.

He's an amazing drummer. However, I just can't shake this feeling off... He looks so uncomfortable while playing. Am I alone thinking this?
He does look a bit uncomfortable, but I think it's due to his set up, and him being very relaxed in his playing.
That's the thing, he doesn't look relaxed to me. It looks like he is limiting his movement for some reason. But hey, it get's the job done and as long as it doesn't lead to any injuries, it's all that matters
"he is limiting his movement for some reason" This is exactly why he's relaxed. He's not tense, and he's using minimal motion in each stroke, this is how it looks. It also seems like he's using mostly wrist in his strokes, which can look odd.
He is not super groovy but, do the job, and hit way harder than years before ;)
Regarding the number of tour they do during a year, i am not sure he has plenty of time to relax and work on his groove
Perhaps the fact that they now play with metronome live make his playing a bit less wilder, but i am still a fan of his playing and this pearl drum set sound bad ass !
He also had something removed from his stomach so maybe he still feels a little pain?
Any real drummer who has marching band experience will tell you can play loud and hard with only 6 inches of stick height-

He's played with Behemoth for 20 years and is endorsed by Pearl and Paiste-pretty sure he knows what to do
