    Seeing that was a tube fly put a smile on my face! I’m going to give them a go for the Dollaghan at night. We’ve been having trouble hooking them at times (no trebles) on small Salmon doubles, big sudden pull that would near take the rod out of your hand or on for a few seconds & off! I think the bigger & older the Dollaghan become the harder their mouth becomes so I’m thinking small short shank Salmon doubles for tubes might give us more hooking power & keep them on! It’s just an idea, we’ll not belong finding out! Lol Anyway keep the videos coming! Cheers again Davie.👍🏻🎣

    Beautiful Davie, I can't figure out if you are a artist or engineer, or both. You certainly inspire me.

    Great tip to cut a V into the end of the outer tube to avoid a problematic step-down with the tying thread. 👍🏻

    Hi Davie, thank you for continuing to be the best tyer on the web !
    I was interested in trying to dye one of my badger capes in the Flame colour you use. What mix of Veniard dye's do you use to achieve this colour please ?
    Many thanks again and keep up the great content !

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  5 лет назад

      Hi Lindsay,
      The way I get flame is to use a hot orange and a little red or even flu-red to get flame, the hot orange will set first then the red but watch it closely for the colour you want...Another way I got a lovely flame colour is to start with flu-yellow then hot orange and then a little red which I have done on a badger neck and it turned out really well..
      All the very best Davie..

      @DavieMcPhail  4 года назад +1

      Hi Gavin,
      Most vises now have a rotary action, Dyna King, Regal, HMH, and Renzetti and many more and are liked by many tyers though I would recommend that you try and look at them before you buy or even better go to a fly fair and you will see them being used...There's also lots of videos showing them being used on RUclips so it would be worth looking through them until the lockdown is over and everything gets back to normal..I'm glad you liked the fly..
      All the very best Davie..

    Is the arctic runner fur the same as arctic fox? Very nice fly! When you first started with the big hump between the two different diameters of tubing I would have never imagined you could cover that up. But you did! Very nicely done!

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  6 лет назад

      Hi Thomas,
      I'm glad you liked the fly and thank you for the kind words....Arctic Runner is similar in a way to the Arctic Fox though the hair has become very popular especially with smaller flies and in combination with others hairs like bucktail...

    Hey Davie. Just a question on an expression you used in the video. When you seated the hook as a guide to the distance for seating the smaller tube in the larger one, you said something that sounded like you could use the hook as a Steven. Did I hear that right, and if so, what is the meaning or context of that?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  6 лет назад

      Hi Stephen,
      I said Sleeve, which is a tubing that can be slipped over the back of the tubing to hold the hook in place but in the video I said that you could use the Flu-Orange outer tubing instead as I left enough room inside for this to happen due to me only pushing the clear inner tubing so far..
      All the very best Davie....

    Davie, what’s the needle you are using in your HMH tube vice? I’ve got the two parallel ones that came with it but I’d like one like the one you are using?

      @DavieMcPhail  4 года назад

      Hi Harry,
      I have collected many of these needles over the years from different companies and I'm sure this one was a guideline version but they have changed it..I have attached a link to it for you to see..

      Thanks Davie, the new one doesn’t look bad as it’ll go in the HMH or fit into the vice on its own.
