Beautiful pattern Davie. Nice to see a hackle folded before tying in, I don't see that too often, that's how I learned. Great advice on a good way to just start the fold. ATB Davie, hope all is well.
Hi Davey. Have never tied a tube fly yet but did try your bomber. (my profile pic) I couldn't believe the reaction to it. Brown trout and dollaghan. Sadly I didn't have much time to try it and darkness came quick. I tried to swing it on the surface but best results came when my line was fully straightened and the bomber was dragging on the surface. Can't wait to tie more now. Although the missus doesn't like the mess they make 😂
Great pattern mate. I was just wondering if you could tie some north country spiders on a tube? I’ve looked and not seen any on the internet. Thanks for sharing another great video. Best Regards from West Virginia, Ken🕷🐜🦃
Hi Bryan, Yes you can tye it on a double as it's a really good fly on any hook even on singles as well..If you tye it on an alloy or plastic tube it will fish in shallow water too... All the very best Davie
Nicely tied as always, i will tie some of these for sure, how are you getting on with the fulling mill razor scissors do they have very fine points I am looking for a new pair. Thanks again Davie.
Hi George, They are a quality pair of scissors but I would say that I would like the points to be slightly finer though I have been using them for the last couple of weeks and so far I am happy with them..I'm glad you liked the fly.. All the very best Davie
Hi Ian, I would put the hackle on first and then the wing though it does work either way as I have tyed them both ways over the years.. All the very best Davie..
Hi Timothy, I did say wax the thread and what this does is it makes the thread grip the materials far better with less turns and as well helps keep the turns of thread tight so your fly will last far longer..It will also strengthen the thread as well as protect it as this is the way it was originally used when the threads were made from silk and cotton..Happy New Year.. All the very best Davie...
nice video, could you tie a tenkara fly i know you have in the past but was thinking Sakasa Kebari like peacock or hare or kamikaze. thanks for great videos you make
Hi Davie, not related to this video but could you suggest a tube fly needle to hold the Sean Stanton tubes, I have the HMH but the tubes just keep spinning, many thanks.
Hi John, I have attached two videos, one shows how I would hold a tube with a normal tapered needle that you can buy and the other I have used a home made one which was a nail then I filed down to a taper but instead of being round I made it square so that I have a flat surface which will hold many of these tubes though in the second video I put some cloth tape on the one I made so that I could show off the fly a bit better for filming..I hope this is of some help to you... Hi davie can you tell me does the hackle on a traditional Peter Ross go under or over the wing ?
Hi Ian,
I would put the hackle on first and then the wing though it does work either way as I have tyed them both ways over the years..
All the very best Davie..
Davie McPhail thank you very much looking forward to your next videos I have learnt a lot over the years watching them.
Did you say you waxed the thread ? If so why ?
