Thanks Davie. The cutting short of the bucktail before tying in is a great tip. I was wondering why my flies all had huge heads!

Hi Davie. Great video as always. You mentioned that you have tied this on a tube. How would you transfer this style of fly on to a tube? Thanks.

      Hi Ross,
I would tye it exactly the same way as it would still sit and fish well, I'm glad you liked it as it's a great pattern to have in your box...
      All the very best Davie

What is it that "make" a Cascade fly a cascade fly, in the few videos I have just watched, I have notised that You use a throat, rather than a hackle, is thát one cascade thing....???
I have heard of flies being tied "cascade style", and from memory, I have always experienced them as sort of "wild", often with a great distance from the rear of the fly and the front, but You don't seem to tie them like thát....?
Salmon fishing forum's monthly competition have "Cascade" as theme, just to explain why I ask....;- )

      Hi Bjarke Strøm,
This is a version of the original Cascade, there are many out there and as you said in the Cascade or even Ally's shrimp style...The original dressing as far as I believe is
      Tag, Oval Silver Tinsel
Tail, Orange and Yellow Bucktail and Pearl Krystal Flash
      Rib, Oval Silver Tinsel
Body, Silver Tinsel and Black Floss in Equal Parts
Wing, Silver Krystal Flash and Dyed Black Squirrel
Hackles Yellow and Hot Orange Hen or Cock
      Head, Black
I hope this is of some help to you and good luck in the competition..
      All the very best Davie

    • @DavieMcPhail

      Hi Otto Krans,
I normally tye them on size 6s, 8s and 10s though they would work in almost any size of hook..I'm glad you liked it...

    Dear Davie,
What kind of knot would you suggest using with an up eye single shank Spey fly?

      Hi Colbee,
Knots like the tucked blood, turle and the rapala work well with an up eyed hook..

      Thank you Sir.
I enjoy your videos very much. I study your tying technique and I have learned much in how to tie more traditional style atlantic salmon flies as well as soft hackles and spiders along with all styles of trout flies. I hail from Northern Michigan and as such I do not have many applications for some of the traditional atlantic flies, but I love trying to tie them and in the process refine my fly tying skills to an art form as you and so many others have. Thank you so much for sharing your passion and expertise with the rest of us.
