Hello Eric & Jax! Wow that trip along the wests mother road is near the top of my bucket list! So I will be following you two on your amazing trip, I am very thankful that I've found someone that has taken it upon themselves to do what you are! So here's to wishing you two all the best of luck, fun and safe travels!!
Jax can do a 1 mile round-trip walk, and it would do him good! Route 66- William Least-Heat Moon would approve. I'm looking forward to it! Tip: WLHM says diners with more than one calendar on the wall have the best food!
I started watching your videos when I was looking for VAN modifications . ( remember the black van ) .. have been following along since ....thanks for the great videos ...there are more of us that REALLY enjoy your efforts than the negative nelleys.....tell Jax I said HI ..:)
Very nice video! Don't even listen to the people that complain about the stroller! We have an elderly dog that we are considering purchasing a stroller for. Jax loves his stroller, you like it, ya'll are having fun - that's all that matters :)
Eric I know your to young to remember but your proposed trip reminds me of an old TV series called Route 66. Two young "soldiers of fortune" set out across America on Route 66. The series aired from 1960-64 and was shot all over America. Bon voyage my friend looking forward to this adventure.
I loved revisiting Route 66 with you as I traveled it many many times with my parents as a child. It’s always been my dream to drive it again as an adult. Thanks so much for this!
You have really come up with a great idea. My parents took the reverse route when my dad was going out to San Diego to be shipped out as a Marine to the South Pacific in WWII. It will be fun to see what they saw - and think of them taking that route. Happy Trails, Eric.
If memory serves me correctly, RTE 66 goes right next to the Meteor Crater in Arizona. I remember walking out there at dusk and finding the old RTE 66 signs. No one out. Simply gorgeous and super dark at night.
Awesome idea on your tour of Route 66 Eric! I am sure that there are many more that will subscribe to your channel. Thank you so much for taking us along on your journey!
I know it is a long way away at this point. But, I recommend the Rock Cafe in Stroud, OK. Good food and it was featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. The owner has been a strong advocate of Route 66 in Oklahoma for several years.
Hey Eric. I'm soo looking forward to following your journey up Route 66. I've always wanted to travel that route myself. I hope you make this as interesting for yourself as it will be for us. Keep on truckin and don't worry bout the trolls. Joke: What's the difference between a Penny and a Hater's opinion? Answer:(The penny is worth something!)
Hi Eric, wow I was so surprised with Rodeo Drive, I thought it would've been busy 24/7 like New York or that !!! Route 66 is an icon and a MUST do once in your life for an American I think !! (a bucket list thing). Don't worry about those who say bad things about Jax in the stroller they don't get it or their NOT cat people. I live in Australia so I'm very envy is of your trip BUT at least I'll be able to experience a little of what it's like. Safe travels, Seeya Rob
We traveled the original Route 66 about 10 years ago and loved it. It gets hard to stay on the original route at times but that's part of the fun. I know you will love the adventure and look forward to seeing it again through your eyes.
what a great idea taking route 66 look forward to following you with the videos appreciate it and thank you for sharing probably get to see places that I'd never get to
When you get to Joliet, IL, let me know. I'll buy you lunch at the Route 66 Diner. (Very good burgers, fries, malts, etc.) You can also check out the Joliet Historical Museum and Route 66 Welcome Center here as well as the old Joliet Prison and Rialto Square Theater (1926).
Really enjoyed this video Eric.....my old stomping ground. Can't wait to see the rest ! GET YOUR KICKS ON ROUTE 66 !! Hubby used to travel it with his family every summer going back East. Stay safe and give Jax a kiss for me !! :)
Fantastic tour on Route 66 Eric keep those videos coming so we all can see what you see as you travel Route 66 I am very glad that you and Jax are enjoying all the sights be safe on the road my friend and Keep On RV'n....
Hey Eric & Jax, ❤️this vid. The Loomis House looked interesting. I will check it out. Thanks for showing Rodeo Drive, CA & Jaxman in his buggy looked cute. Route 66 here I come. Be safe both of you.✌🏽🌴😎
Now this is going to be an exciting chapter in your book of travels. Looking forward to it and to your reaction. Enjoy seeing Jax ridding in his stroller. Thanks!
So jealous... I have seen other Route 66 vids and enjoyed them... Hope to see you meet some of the people along the way.. Rodeo Drive was awesome, as was Santa Monica Peir. I once drove out the PCH to Santa Barbara and loved the views... I would go back in a sec. Good luck on your trip...After Chicago swing thru Cincinnati... G
#80 Hello, Eric. I'm excited to see Route 66 from your side. I been there several times and always find something new. So I am looking forward to your videos. Let the Wheels Turn!
this is my first time here, i saw ur route 66 playlist and i watched the 1st video the. i automatically tap the like and subscribe button. watching the whole episode later after my work 👍🏼
i love your videos im a new subscriber and viewer im from sweden i love your adorable baby boy cat. keep up with the videos my friend you have made my day better you are an cool guy thumbs up👍🏻🙂
Love your channel. Excited about this portion. I live in Alaska and have not been out of state in about 15-20 years. I will be taking a vacation and will be driving on Rt 66! Loving the preview!
Eric can't wait to see more of 66. That's the path I'm taking out of Cali in July . I'm sure you'll be long gone by then but I look out for you anyway.
I would have predicted your sense of humor would have included a line about getting some kicks on route 66, maybe I'm too old. your content is great, thanks I've enjoyed the videos.
I am happy to say, I had the privilege of traveling the ORIGINAL and complete Route 66 a dozen times during the 1950s. I have many cherished memories of those journeys from a time in America, when traveling was a much different, safer and simpler. I hope you find some of the remaining treasures of yesteryear, as you listen to the sounds and sights of the Mother Road. Be safe. T. Phoenix, Arizona USA
We've travelled Route 66 many times between Santa Monica, California and Joplin Missouri but have never been up to Chicago. I'm looking forward to seeing your video adventure, especially to sections of Route 66 we have yet to drive. Happy travels.
Hi, Eric. Back in 2006 there was a wildly popular show on the Food Network called, "Feasting on Asphalt", hosted by Alton Brown, one of the food network icons. Your upcoming journey reminded me of that series. Although Alton's focus was on food, he wove in local sights and stories in a most engaging way. Just as you do. Safe travels. (Alton did a follow up series, but the first was the best and most popular.)
I was kind of wondering just when you would announce your plans. You certainly gave some clues in previous videos. Well done. Great start to a new adventure. Take your time, see as many sights as you can. I've never made the trek, so looking forward to the next two months of armchair travel. Be safe and have fun. Give Jax some catnip for me, pets, too.
Always wanted to do Route 66. It's sounds so exciting of a adventure. Doing it slow and checking out the old stuff and the new. Boondocking most of the time. The book will be helpful in the points of interest to see. Jax looked cool in his buggy. Thanks again for sharing and all the hard work you putting into your video
Cat in a stroller is neat! I have one for my mini aussie. She loves it....besides that I can take her inside places that don't allow dogs. No one seems to mind if she is in the stroller.
Once I get my van converted I plan on doing a similar route, spending time on the west coast before traveling Route 66. I look forward to your videos and getting some of your expert tips. Enjoy the journey!
I had to laugh at your Rodeo drive part - when my husband & I took a tour a few years ago, they stopped on Rodeo drive and we could walk around & "shop". I called my sister and said, "I had to call you...I'm on Rodeo Drive and I'm wearing head to toe KMart and Walmart clothing"... we had such a laugh. I think I took a picture of that same sexy car. A Bugatti? Not sure if that the way you spell it... Love the Route 66 tour - great idea - this is going to be FUN!!!
My wife, son and I are going to be doing the same thing you are doing right now. We however have to wait for the son to get out of school. As soon as he is out of school we are going to drive from here in Grayland WA. down east OR and CA. I will be posting videos as soon as we get the inside of our Winnebago Aspect 29H looking like home. We are going to be heading for east WA. this weekend to get some sunny weather to install a new fan and some vent covers. Looks like you have a good start to your trip. I have been watching a lot of videos as of late looking just to find all I can about what I am doing and how to do it better. Sorry if I do not watch all your videos on your "Trip Down The Old Mother Road 66". I took a trip when i was younger down it but I am sure that I did not see everything. Maybe I will go back and watch them after I get down the road in June. Well this is getting long so I will finish this by saying "Safe travels".
This should be a good road trip on Route 66. It would be nice if you could point out any farms along the route and what they are growing. Thanks for your videos.
I'm happy to see you do this Historic Route 66 tour. I want to do it myself sometime. The guide book was a great tip. I think I'll try to find one on-line, and study up. I recommend you read the Wikipedia article on Route 66. I was on a deserted stretch of highway in New Mexico one day, and saw a sign indicating that this stretch of road was 'at one time' part of Route 66. I got curious, and looked it up on Wikipedia. There were some changes to the Route throughout the years. In Arizona, there is an intact section, and Oklahoma has a great nearly intact section, between Oklahoma City and Tulsa. I lived in Amarillo, TX for a few years, and the section of the Route through that city is pretty well intact, with lots of cool stuff to see. Wishing you well, and Happy Trails!
My husband and I along with his brother did part of Rt. 66 last summer. We rented a 30 ft. Class C and enjoyed it so well we bought our own this past January. We saw some awesome sights however, a lot of The Mother Road is not maintained like it was back in the day. All in all it was a very exciting trip and I am eager to do it again. I love your videos...!! Happy Travels and give Jax's ears a good scratch from me.
Eric, glad to see your out of LA safely, this should be a great journey. I have made this trip halfway many times from Southern California to Oklahoma you will know your halfway at the Mid point Cafe in Texas. Hope you and Jax have a safe journey.
When you get to Albuquerque, NM be aware that they are installing a rapid transit bus system most of the way through town. You might want to detour off Central Avenue (Rt 66). The construction zone is from Coors Blvd on the west side to Louisiana Blvd on the east side. Sorry. Please don't shoot the messenger. If ykou take I40 to Louisiana, then south on Louisiana to Central, you can get the east part of it.
Nomadic Fanatic Avoid Central if you can. I pass the mess every day going to/from work. Glad to see you survived Compton,Athens and Gardena...I grew up there.
You have to stop at Ted Drewes Frozen Custard, when you pass through my hometown of St. Louis. It is on Chippewa, which used to be part of Route 66. I think before Culvers opened Frozen Custard was pretty much only sold in St. Louis and Wisconsin. Try a St. Louis style pizza at IMOS if you've never had one. It uses a cheese that is only sold in St. Louis. You can also take a detour to Forest Park (where also the 1904 World's Fair was held) and go to the history museum. They have a nice Route 66 exhibit there. You can ride your bike across the old Chain of Rocks bridge. It was once part of 66 and now is used for a bike trail over the Mississippi. It was also used in the filming of the movie Escape from New York.
Excited for this leg of your journey! When I was last at Grand Canyon, there was a cool diner in Williams called the Cruisers Cafe - I think it's very Eric... You'd like it and not expensive so friendly to the budget... Be safe and Have a blast Eric!
Great video. Love your cap! Thanks for recording separately. Thanks for GPS coordinates if ever want to go. Who cares if touristy--Route 66 stops! We're all tourists on this mother 🌏 and "tourist" stuff intermixed is fun. We're excited for your adventure!
You and Jax will be just like Buzz and Todd in the 1960's Route 66 TV series, they toured the country traveling on Route 66 in their corvette meeting interesting people , experiencing new adventures in every town, route 66 is one of my favorite them songs . I'm really looking forward to traveling route 66 with you and Jax, this should be very enjoyable.
This will be vicarious nostalgia for me. I did as much of Old Rte 66 as I could heading east to west. My trip was a combo of 66, Diners Drive Inns & Dives and craft breweries to add to my beer glass collection. It's hokey but I liked Pops 66 Soda Ranch. And of course all the abandoned buildings.
Hey there.. I lived on Route 66 (on the corner of 66 & Short Street) in Waynesville, Missouri. Went to high school across the street where the Waynesville Tigers played. 1967 - 1972. Please wave when you drive by. Oh.. and stop at the Roubidoux Bridge that goes over the Roubidoux Creek where I spent some time hanging around with friends. Also... lol.. saw Tommy James & the Shondells at the local theater. LOL. fun. hugs enjoy your trip on route 66.
There are a couple of nice Route 66 museums in Kingman Arizona. One is called the Powerhouse Visitor Center. The other is the Mojave Museum, which is walking distance from Powerhouse. Kingman also has a railroad museum, but it was closed when I visited. Going further east, across from the Grand Canyon Railway RV park is the Grand Canyon Brewing Company brew-pub (in Williams AZ) which is very nice inside. Big parking lot there so it's easy to park the RV. Williams is also a Route 66 tourist spot. There's an RV park in Williams which has railway cars made into motel rooms, kind of interesting to see from the outside. (Canyon Motel & RV Park). When you go through Flagstaff AZ, stop at the Lowell Observatory for a guided tour. It's up a short steep hill, but your motorhome will handle it. My 24' Class C did fine. It costs about $15 as I recall, but interesting, and it has some nice things in the gift shop. Lowell Observatory is where the planet Pluto was discovered. The telescope used for that discovery is out of service being reconditioned, but a larger telescope is on the tour, which was used to create maps of the lunar surface for NASA's first manned lunar landing and which is where astronomer Vera Rubin made her observations that lead her to conclude the existence of "dark matter". Astronomer Percival Lowell himself is entombed there in a sarcophagus under a glass dome. His widow wanted him to be able to look at the night sky in the afterlife. The museum there has Lowell's big red 1911 Stevens-Duryea Model Y "Big Six" motorcar, beautifully restored. Further east on I-40 (paralleling historic Route 66) you'll reach Winslow AZ on old Route 66, where the "standin' on the corner" park is the location of the actual corner in the song made famous by The Eagles. You too can stand on the same corner and take a selfie. There's even a flatbed Ford parked on that corner, as in the song, and the image painted on the storefront window recreates "the girl my Lord in the flatbed Ford slowin' down to take a look at me". That's as far east on Route 66 as I got on my recent 2500 mile loop from Santa Cruz (CA) through Mojave (CA) and through Arizona, which I did over a 2-week period last month. I skipped the Meteor Crater that's about 6 miles south of I-40 between Flagstaff and Winslow. Your guide book probably tells you about it. After leaving I-40, I drove about an hour south on I-17 to Sedona AZ, the most beautiful sight on my Arizona trip, but that's off of your Route 66 path. (If you do go to Sedona, I recommend you take I-17 and continue to the Arizona-179 intersection, then double back northward on 179. This avoids a section of steep sharp switchbacks on 89-A which is the direct route from Flagstaff.) "Get your kicks on Route 6 6."
Looking forward to the videos for the next couple of months!! Especially when you come through Mo, even though i don't think there's much exciting along ol' route 66!! You like fishing? *Have a good'nnn*
Hello Eric & Jax! Wow that trip along the wests mother road is near the top of my bucket list! Eric I know your to young to remember but your proposed trip reminds me of an old TV series called Route 66. Two young "soldiers of fortune" set out across America on Route 66. The series aired from 1960-64 and was shot all over America.
Bon voyage my friend looking forward to this adventure.
Jax looks perfectly happy in his stroller and he really seems to enjoy it. Keep it up Eric :) Fine and dandy.

I appreciate the heads up! I will be mindful of going around some areas up there!
Nomadic Fanatic Avoid Central if you can. I pass the mess every day going to/from work. Glad to see you survived Compton,Athens and Gardena...I grew up there.
My husband and I LOVE your cat stroller. We are getting one!! awesome!!
Rt. 66 is number 1 on my bucket list! Safe travels!!!!
I'm loving it. You've got me on the hook. I think this is a great idea. Be safe and enjoy.
Love quirky and off the wall stuff! Looking forward to the journey. Love that first house!!!!
Looking forward to sharing the journey from Australia. Safe travels 😀🇦🇺😀🇺🇸😀
Great idea for your trip.
This one I look forward to.
Best regards from a sunny Stockholm.
AWESOME VIDEO as usual. Think I may put Rt 66 on the
"Bucket list" . Safe journeys and awesome adventures
Love the New Route! I'm really looking forward to your new travels and videos. Where are all the people?? Exciting days ahead.
The stroller thing is awesome! Your a good kitty daddy! Dawn here from Maine. Keep being you!
You and Jax are awesome. New fan here! Keep up the great videos.
awesome video Eric! excited to see the Route 66 adventure!
Just came across your videos and subscribed. Jack looks like he’s having a good vacation 😺
I think 66 is going to be very interesting and should be a blast!
Sounds like a great trip ahead. Look forward to your reports along the road.
So looking forward to this trip! That travel guide looks like it packs a lot of interesting places. :-)
This avoids a section of steep sharp switchbacks on 89-A which is the direct route from Flagstaff.)
"Get your kicks on Route 6 6."
Looking forward to the videos for the next couple of months!!
Especially when you come through Mo, even though i don't think there's much exciting along ol' route 66!! You like fishing?
*Have a good'nnn*
Very Good I will watch Them ALL
