❤️LOVED this presentation....The title was mis-leading but you did an excellent job with the summary. Agree 110%! You are my go to resource on Guinea Pigs and thanks Saska and Team at the LA Rescue with keeping us enlightened
Yes, yes, aha, yes ... Oh the biting bars 😆 argh! 😆 I find hay in my bed and on the stairs 🤦♀️ I always have a stash of lint roll. But they're worth it, I love my piggies sooo much 😍😍 both of mine are from the RSPCA (UK). Great video Scotty 😁
I hate so much when people say "what's up with guinea pigs?" or make a face or laugh at you when you say you have guinea pigs or that you love guinea pigs (or act crazy about gps like I do). GRRR
When Guinea pigs hear treats, food and that they have learned from you and there surroundings that means treats food they are going to week week when they hear the refrigerator or the bag that has because they can hear and when they hear it they are so excited that weeking is their only way of saying thank so much .but when hear The word treat and they never get it they feel left out they will keep trying to get your tension by biting on the bars. I know that dogs and cats habits can be broken . a Guinea pig on the other hand has to keep eating most of the time that they are awake to keep them alive and healthy, and not trying to tell you what to do just some things that I have learned and good luck
I spend the extra money to buy dripless water bottle most pet stores sell them they are worth the extra money. With having 7 piggies I was tired of drippy bottles
@@ScottysAnimals I bought the water bottle at tractor supply it's the Lixit brand it is 8.99 the water fills in the top or can unscrew the cap. Had mine for years I had a piggie that purposely made the water run out of bottle onto shavings then he would lay in it.
Monday they LOOOVE cilantro, Tuesday they hate it. Trying to find proper foods they like it the hardest. My boys gave me the dirty side I when I tried giving them mustard greens.
My biggest pet peeve is that, even though the hay is in a bin over one end of their litter box, it still gets everywhere. I never talk to or give my piggies anything in the middle of the night so they don't make a sound when I get up. I wear slippers and sweep often so I don't step on beans. I use fleece to line the piggies' area and horse stall wood pellets in their litter boxes so I don't have to deal with any type of bedding mess.
Scotty, you have me laughing so hard cause it's all true. I gotta admit though that my hubby and kids are way more annoying than my little piggy loves!! Lol
Hi Scott I just wanted to say ty for your videos I have two girls and am newer to being a guinea pig mom and have found lots of useful information on your channel so my girls and I thank you 🙂
I adopted my piggies 'secondhand' from a family who lived in a very small home and they wanted to adopt a dog but they felt that the guinea pigs wouldn't have a safe environment to run around and go outside their cage anymore so they were looking for a home where they could get all the love and have a safe space to explore. :) now their with me in my student dorm where I let them run around and explore all day and get all the veggies and snacks they could ever want. ❤
Oh yes this is all to familiar Scotty ! Especially the wheeking of treats Squiggy and Lenny has me tamed 😂😂😂 they said wheek wheek to your guinea pigs , Ann says hi to !
Hey Scotty! I have a guinea pig named Appa (named after the flying bison from Avatar) and I'm gonna teach him a simple little cute trick so I can say "Appa, yip yip" and he'll do something cute. I hope it can be fun for him and maybe help him gain more confidence and brain enrichment. Is this a good idea?
@@ScottysAnimals No, of course not! He has a cage mate and they get along just fine. Usually just normal male piggie behavior such as rumble strutting and marking territory. But would it be a good idea to teach them tricks to hopefully enhance brain power and enrichment?
@@decimatethestars tricks can be good enrichment and bonding for all pets 😊. I've seen cute videos of piggies doing target training, simple tricks, and even "basketball"!
I have had a couple girls that chew on bars to get people attention and bring them food. And some days it can drive me crazy! They can be quite persistent!
The wheeking in the middle of the night 😂 the way my apartment is set up my bathroom has two doors and sometimes I go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and turn on the lights in there and thats enough to get me accosted for treats... im just like furdy (or whoever, but shes usually the culprit) 😂will you just let me pee in peace.
BLASPHEMY! Wheeking, box biting, drinking, ruckusing, rumble strutting in the middle of the night is the greatest thing ever. Even if it is baby piggies first separated from their mommy and wheek and wheek and wheek non-stop at an ear-piercing level until they build to a crescendo and then start over (okay, that can drive you literally insane).
same here! i live in a studio & have to walk past my piggies to get to the bathroom, i'm glad they associate me with something positive, but they don't have to wake up my neighbours lol
Bar chewing was nice to see mentioned. I'm a new guinea pig mommy. I have my 2 boys next to my 2 girls, but separate cages to avoid babies. They chew on the bars and I was worried it would hurt their teeth. What about water bottle playing? My girls play with their water bottle, but not my boys. Fur babies are the best!!!
Hey Scotty! I took your advice and bought the fiddle stick tunnel. It'll be here this week, I also got a cuddle cup and a carry sack for them so they can have more me time lol thanks!! 💜💜💜 #Billyistheman
I have a solo piggie that belongs to my step daughter and she stays in a cage alone bc her mom won't let her have another one.she chews on the bars of her cage like crazy.i have a herd of 5 sows and a pair of sows that she can see and talk to but I've noticed that my pigs that have friends in the cage don't chew on the bars at all but the lone piggie does and I think it could be a boredom thing.
🥰 and they’re sooo smart! You know how everyone’s bedroom door squeaks a little different? Mine figured out which door was mine in a snap even though they couldn’t see it from where they are. So it’s “ok guys, get ready, mummy’s coming!” Didn’t make it to the kitchen 🤪
Omgosh! You nailed this my friend! 🤣 One of the annoying things is definitely the water bottle. Not because its full or empty. My Penelope in the middle of the night at 3-4 am I hear a fast rhythm of chicachicachicachicachicachicachicachica. Im like ugggggh! Let me sleep! 🤣🤣🤣
The dripping water bottles... I replaced the ball-type bottles with nipple ones. The brand is www.savic.be/products/source/, just for reference. There is no dripping or leaking. They come in different sizes and can be filled without being attached from the cage, which is especially convenient when it is hot and the water is consumed quickly. But the piggies had to figure out how to drink from them because they got used to those ball drinkers that leaked when they just touched them with their noses. As for squeaking for treats, when I happen to sneak along my piggies in the middle of the night, they are just sleepy and their faces literally ask 'why are you here, go to bed' 😁 And what I could't manage at all was grid chewing.... One of the piggy girls did that all the time, while the other showed no interest in that. The chewing was loud, like she was protesting or requiring something (or may be just grinding her teeth 🤔). Nothing helped, though there was always a good amount of fresh hay and pellets... If they want chew on the grids, just let them do it....
I put a small square of coroplast between the two cages to block view and smell of each other. I have another that chews on bars if someone else gets feed treats before him 😂
I've built their cage myself out of ikea tables, a tarp on top and then the sawdust. Plexiglass in front. They don't bite on anything, one sometimes chews on their house but that's it. I also don't use a water bottle but a bowl with water. I need to give them fresh water daily because sawdust or poop ends in it but I still prefer it.
@@ScottysAnimals I'm not a fan because of the reason you said in the video that they leak and it can also be very loud at night when it's a water bottle with that little metal ball in it *thats at least the ones I know* on the other side I think that in the wild they also don't drink out of a bottle 😅
I agree with you, I’ve had water bottles before but I prefer a bowl with water and I think my piggies do too. But I don’t have multiple cages so it’s not too much work.
Hi Scott! I have a question for you. Would you do care tips for long haired guinea pigs? I just recently got one and I've always had the short haired babies 🙂 so I'm curious to see what you would recommend for my long haired baby
Scotty, you commented that Guinea Pigs should not really have wet greens. Is there a reason for this? Should I be drying the produce (Romaine lettuce and Cilantro) before I give it to them?
I only have 2 pigs and don't really deal with poop, hay, or hair in the wrong places. Their lining is maybe 6 inches high and I'm very careful in cleaning the fleece when throwing it in the wash.
Hi Scotty, The most annoying thing for me is getting the hair off of the fleece before it goes in the washing machine! It drives me crazy!!! 😤 But I love them so much 😍 xXx
@Angie McDonald, maybe try presoaking in a 5 gallon pail, just add baking soda. Then pour the water from the pail through a fish net. You can also wash the fleece by putting it in an old pillowcase and zip tie it shut. Lastly, ruclips.net/video/o165Py4Ar1s/видео.html. I have a serrated knife, I comb it over the fleece and it gathers the hair.
I use a little bitter apple on places where I don’t want my girls to chew. It isn’t messy or sticky and it stops them long enough for them to find something else to do.
My room smells horrible bc I dont get good circulation in my room so it gets stuffy somtimes and smelly animals in my room just makes it alot worse, I leave my fan all the way on high so it can help with circulation and I just need it on so that it wont be too hot for my piggy, I also leave my window opean when it's not too hot to try to help some more. I have a cat so I cant leave my door opean bc she isint aloud in there in general since she likes to pee all over my stuff so whenever she is aloud in there she just pees on my stuff but I try to leave it opean as much as possible but I cant do it often sadly. I also csnt move them into the living room bc there isint enough room and were there is room my parents wont let me put them there bc they think its ugly even though my mom complains that she never gets to she them.. idk I need help bc idk what to do anymore, ik I cant spray stuff bc it's bad for them so i cant even try that :(
I'm not sure what your exact set up is like, so you may have already tried a couple of these. Before I moved, my room had some similar issues and I wasn't allowed to move them elsewhere in the house. 1. If u have a small 2 foot cage atm, it may seem counterintuitive but a larger cage will smell less and be easier to spot clean. 2. Seal all bedding, hay, and pellets into sealed plastic containers rather than the bags sitting out. 3. I find that aspen chips smell mustier faster than paper bedding, but paper bedding tends to get soiled faster, so depending what u are currently using, you can try mixing a couple diff bedding (ex. I like aspen on bottom layer with soft paper bedding layer on top that's easy to spot clean). 4. Put a tupperware or other short and long container on the side of cage that has the hay, water, pellets, then they'll potty more in that container, so you can change that bedding more frequently from this 'litter box' and not waste all the bedding at once 5. When you don't have ac or heat on, try to leave ur window open with 2 fans in front; one fan pulling air out of ur room and another one blowing air into the room from the window. If its too hot outside during the day, try to air out your room at nights. hope one of these might help u out!
One annoying thing that happened to me is when I was cleaning their cage, I had the girls in a flat clear box for their bath, anyway I had them too close to the back of me and I have long hair. I felt something pulling my hair. They where trying to eat my hair.
Scotty, I need help. Last night, while my guinea pigs were having floor time, a mouse jumped into my piggies’ cage. My room is very cluttered because I have just moved into this house AND I AM TERRIFIED OF MICE. How can I get rid of the mouse without harming my boys? It took hours, but I managed to get them in a mesh playpen for the night and I know they hate being in there for this long, but I am afraid to even go near the cage. Help please.

Hey Scotty, my guinea pigs are continuing to fight and I have tried to make them stop. Should I give them time, get a loft, or just a whole other cage for one of them?
@@ScottysAnimals I hear them chattering their teeth and they chase each other. I found one guinea pig with a cut on his nose and bite marks on his ear. My girls do the bar thing too! Drives me crazy lol. Nice Video, Scotty! I Enjoy Your Videos, I can tell you love them! ❤️
#9 - I can’t cuddle them all the time! They absolutely need ample time in their pen to eat hay & potty, but I wish I could cuddle them for hours on end!
❤️LOVED this presentation....The title was mis-leading but you did an excellent job with the summary. Agree 110%! You are my go to resource on Guinea Pigs and thanks Saska and Team at the LA Rescue with keeping us enlightened
Hi Scott! I'm finally first haha. Great video 😊 and omg yes the water bottles!
So close ;)
So glad I came across your video. Im getting a female pair after 13 years of having my last guinea pig. And I decided to adopt and im excited!
Thanks Tracy!!
Another thing is hay everywhere. I have found it in my purse. Kinda of embarrassing lol
9 - vet Bill's... within 4 weeks of adopting my boys I've spent over £300 gbp on treating one for a bite following a fight, and now ringworm :(
Ive got some girl piggies and they definitely chew the bars to get my attention. They don't so much chew to get each other's attention however.
Mine do that 2
I hate so much when people say "what's up with guinea pigs?" or make a face or laugh at you when you say you have guinea pigs or that you love guinea pigs (or act crazy about gps like I do). GRRR
Hahaha JB exactly
Oh my goodness, same! I had them growing up and got teased by classmates, even one who had one herself didn't get it!
What brand
@@ScottysAnimals I bought the water bottle at tractor supply it's the Lixit brand it is 8.99 the water fills in the top or can unscrew the cap. Had mine for years I had a piggie that purposely made the water run out of bottle onto shavings then he would lay in it.
Monday they LOOOVE cilantro, Tuesday they hate it. Trying to find proper foods they like it the hardest. My boys gave me the dirty side I when I tried giving them mustard greens.
deenomad1975 so true. Ha ha.
Picky picky, ive got a food list on www.scottysanimals.com
Another annoying thing is when the dog goes out and comes in he gets a treat and now the piggies chew the bar for a treat to when he comes in
I KNOW I EAT CHIPS AND WEEK WEEK AND BARK AND THEN THE CHEW CHEE
My biggest pet peeve is that, even though the hay is in a bin over one
end of their litter box, it still gets everywhere.
Lol
Hi Scott I just wanted to say ty for your videos I have two girls and am newer to being a guinea pig mom and have found lots of useful information on your channel so my girls and I thank you 🙂
most important thing i found to stop bottle dripping is the temperature of water. if you put in cold water as it warms it drips alot more.
Haaay boyz!!
I’m getting a guinepig soon and you have helped me so much thank so much!your the best
Does he live alone? Check out my free Guinea pig care guide: www.scottysanimals.com
@@sarahstardust AWWWW
Omg I LOVE his name, one of my piggies name is Momo from Avatar
Lol at the poop stuck on the bottom of your foot! I also will find hay in my hair! I don’t know own that happens!
Billy has been starting it lately
We're just their slaves😜
If they want trees, you have to give them some or they gonna wake the whole Family
@@xandermin LOL I think they believe it is their solemn duty to alert everyone to their presence and hunger.
one of my girls will bite and kinda chew the coroplast telling me to hurry up with the treats but thats the only time any do that
Bar chewing was nice to see mentioned.
Awesome!! Keep the treats flowin
Encourage them to watch my videos
@@ScottysAnimals will do that always helps my boredom. Lol
As for squeaking for treats, when I happen to sneak along my piggies in the middle of the night, they are just sleepy and their faces literally ask 'why are you here, go to bed' 😁
And what I could't manage at all was grid chewing....
The water bottle might be a better option. Why don't you like it?
@@ScottysAnimals I'm not a fan because of the reason you said in the video that they leak and it can also be very loud at night when it's a water bottle with that little metal ball in it *thats at least the ones I know* on the other side I think that in the wild they also don't drink out of a bottle 😅
I agree with you, I’ve had water bottles before but I prefer a bowl with water and I think my piggies do too. But I don’t have multiple cages so it’s not too much work.
@@robyn203 yes I also only have one big one for a group of 3
What's the best way to bend the grids???? I noticed the 'tunnel' that's made of curved grids and I want to make one.
Step on it 1/3 with your foot and bend with confidence. You might crack a few. It seems like a certain orientation works best
I will try that. Thx.
Great video
Thanks Rayna
Hi Scott! I have a question for you. Would you do care tips for long haired guinea pigs? I just recently got one and I've always had the short haired babies 🙂 so I'm curious to see what you would recommend for my long haired baby
how your washing machine looks after washing their fleece....😑😁
Scotty, you commented that Guinea Pigs should not really have wet greens. Is there a reason for this? Should I be drying the produce (Romaine lettuce and Cilantro) before I give it to them?
My Charlemagne chews the bars demanding dinner, a.k.a. VEGGIES!! LOL
I only have 2 pigs and don't really deal with poop, hay, or hair in the wrong places. Their lining is maybe 6 inches high and I'm very careful in cleaning the fleece when throwing it in the wash.
Those silicone dish washing sponges, which you can find just about anywhere now, are awesome (and reusable!!) for getting pig fur off of clothing :)
Interesting! Thanks for the tip
Hi Scotty,
The most annoying thing for me is getting the hair off of the fleece before it goes in the washing machine! It drives me crazy!!! 😤 But I love them so much 😍 xXx
Im flapping them outside in the wind
@Angie McDonald, maybe try presoaking in a 5 gallon pail, just add baking soda. Then pour the water from the pail through a fish net. You can also wash the fleece by putting it in an old pillowcase and zip tie it shut. Lastly, ruclips.net/video/o165Py4Ar1s/видео.html. I have a serrated knife, I comb it over the fleece and it gathers the hair.
you should try a pet hair remover brush, like the one from brellavi! :)
Run a horse rubber comb over the freece 1st x
Julia from "Little Adventures" uses a "horse bag" to wash her liners and that gets the hair and hay off the liners and keeps it contained
I got a new Piggy about 2 or 3 months ago. I found him from making a post on Nextdoor if anyone was rehoming.
and hay gets everywhere my NEW hoover does not hoover up all the hay,the hay is everywhere
I just want my babies to stay with me forever. They are so precious. X
Help please.
when my piggy pees on me or the bed can be annoying but its not the end of the world and it can be cleaned easily.
The Poop Throwing and Pellet Throwing should be part of the Piggy Olympics! Number 5, the wheeks and the staring, oh gawds xD and why Guinea pigs? I fell in love with a book series, and it kind if went from there 🥰
One annoying thing my piggies do is being super loud drinking out of the water bottles.lol
Nate does that too, thunk thunk
@@ScottysAnimals its always at the most inconvenient times too.like when your talking to your boss on the phone or trying to listen for a phone # or conformation code.lol
Most annoying thing about having piggies are the the hay and wood chips get all over. Even in rooms the piggies aren't in. But I love them!
All these reasons stand no where in front of the love that we get from them😍😍😍😍
Nice haircut!! 😍
Omg the bar chewing. It drives me absolutely insane! 💀
Our piggies chew on the bars when they think its treat time. Its quieter than wheeking at 1am so i aint complaining 😆
I call guinea pig hair "fibres of Love" ! ❤😂
Awww! If i searched the world over I'd never find anything annoying about piggies 🐷. And i know you don't really mean it Scotty and it was all said in jest! 😂
My girls haven't developed the cage biting habit, fortunately. 😊. A few days ago mine had their nails clipped at the dog-grooming parlour. The owner was excellent and even suggested we be the last customers as there would be no dogs or cats before closing time. 😊 My usually skittish young ladies were suddenly calm and not a single tiny wheek stirred!! 😂 For a first visit that was amazing! And I'm sure their next one will be an absolute breeze! 😂
Heres to ;
Bottle dripping, Wheeking between Meals, Treading in Poop, Covered in Hair.....etc.....etc ! And still we Love You, our Furry Family ❤
Glad to know I am not alone in the pine shaving(s) in the bed!
Hey Scotty, my guinea pigs are continuing to fight and I have tried to make them stop. Should I give them time, get a loft, or just a whole other cage for one of them?
What do you mean fight Madison? Have they always been fighting? If anybody is getting hurt they should be separated and they can be fine side-by-side
@@ScottysAnimals I hear them chattering their teeth and they chase each other. I found one guinea pig with a cut on his nose and bite marks on his ear. The other guinea pig also shakes his butt and chases the other one when he gets too close to him. I have also seen one of them bite the other one multiple times and I try to stop him, but he keeps doing it.
@@foolishmortalxmadslivestre5741 if they're biting and actually injuring each other, it might be good to separate them. If possible keep them in a split cage or side by side so they can still see each other.
My Guinea pig simon is 3 months old I love him but it's so hard for my to pick him up I tried just sitting next to the cage talking to him earning his trust he likes me to pet him and feed him we play put when I go to pick him up he runs do you have any advice ?
