I've currently got 20 piggies! I take in rescues, neglected piggies etc and bring them back to health.. and then keep them because I cant bear to part with them 😅 3 boys and 17 girls at the moment. I'm moving house soon, I bought the house purely with the pigs in mind, their room is going to be so much bigger :)
I started with a boy and girl in seperate cages and I was going to neuter my male so they could be together. I changed my mind because of all the deaths I had seen reported on the guinea pig groups on Facebook. Saw one today that died the day after surgery. Anyways I got each a friend of the same sex and now I have 4 guinea pigs. My 1 girl I got from LA Guinea pig Rescue that was from the northern hording rescue. Anyways I have to cut it off at 4 as I have to consider future medical bills as they age and don't want to be in a difficult situation. Yes I am getting medical insurance. I have to say I like boys better. I find my males calmer and more affectionate and social. My girls are more shy and not very friendly. They would rather be in their cage. By the way, one thing worth noting, these are my favorite videos that you do because it's such strong advocacy for guinea pigs. You help so many guinea pigs with these types of videos. Great job!
Such an important message. Keep within your financial limits and space limits so that the piggies have lots of space. Even the day to day care of piggies - food, hay, bedding, any other equipment all costs. I have 16 in my care some of which Im fostering. I get some financial support from our sanctuary funds for the fostered piggies vet needs but I know 16 is my limit and they all have friends and loads of space and my time as every piggie needs That fleece was great! Loved the patterns and they looked so well made :)
Make sure you have the health to look after yourself and your animals. Plus budget for vets, food and possible piggy extras, space, time and learn as much as possible about them. Scotty is a great example of this - he puts the same effort into his videos, as his piggies and fosters. And BB. Thanks Scott ♥️🐹🐦🐹🐹💖
I think a good question is: How many enclosures do you want to deal with? We have a set of linens for boys and one for girls. Boys have a bedroom and sleep in a Midwest. Girls have a puppy pen and their own family room they are out for a couple hours twice a day. It means a lot of cleaning and laundry per enclosure.
It makes me so sad when piggies are alone. Even if they’re antisocial and fight with other piggies, I agree it’s suuuper important that they know other piggies exist. You do a fantastic job of showing the reality of when piggies don’t bond well where a lot of pet channels don’t! Thank you for your amazing content that is really helpful!

Absolutely, you need to be able to take all pets to the vet. Had my 3 piggies 6 months now and they've all been to the vets twice. Primarily it was simply for a health check and for me to also check out the vets. Happiest with the second vet, so now I have a go-to vet, so know where to go if something serious crops up. But I will still take them 6 monthly for a health check - prevention better than cure. Will give you the details of my vet (here in Surrey UK) for your list once I'm sure they are super good with an issue.

I was lucky with "little" (he weighs 2.9 pounds) Junior over here. He turned out to have an eye infection, and I had held enough back to take him to be seen by the only vet in my area that handles piggies. Junior is on his second day of eye drops, and he doesn't like it one bit. His eye is starting to clear up though.
Yes 100%, vet bills are something you have to include in your financial planning for any animal. Please talk to your vets, a lot of them offer payment plans or delayed payments. Please, don’t assume you can get away with never going to the vets for your piggie’s entire life. They need someone to act fast if they’re ill. This could happen at any moment, try to always be prepared with money stashed away that you won’t touch except for vet bills. You can also talk to family members and/or friends, maybe someone can lend you some money so you can get to the vet straight away and pay them back later. It’s your duty of care to prevent suffering, which includes ensuring they’re ill for the least amount of time possible (vet treatment!). Preventatives to reduce illnesses are important too ❤️ (clean environment, correct diet, a safe environment etc).

Hey Scotty, I had a hard time trying to find and adopt/rescue a pig, instead of going to a breeder or pet store. It's great that you're adopting all those boys! Everywhere I look there are guinea pigs and other animals, that I wish I could take in. But unfortunately it's not possible to take them all in. Right now we have three girls and one male, who I rescued from a situation where he was living alone and had him neutered. Yes, the operation is risky, but less risk than to have the females desexed or a C-section even. When we got him, we seperated the group of females for a few weeks, because one female was already desexed for medical reasons. I personally like it better to have just one group and have them all free rooming.... And there's always the risk, a "real boy" might break out and into the females space. By the way the biggest number of guinea pigs we ever had at one time was 28. Must have spent about a thousand euros per month. So people out there: if you have the money: A big herd is a great experience!

Going to the vet is why I have 22 rescued piggies. One family brought me their dying piggie and I rushed him to the vet. They couldn’t afford euthanasia. He would have died a long and painful death. I did hide. Life was a challenge. 4 piggies is perfect for me. Now with covid, not able to travel, not being able to meet the one You love-like being a boy piggy watching a girl piggy through the fence grid not being able to meet?
The number of piggys, of books, of bags, dresses, fruits, flowers, who can tell the correct number. My week contains of more than seven days or less. 😊🕺👍✨🙏 The perfect number would be one. One day, one love, one piggy. One. Or eight. 8.The number of eternity. I love Your laughs✨🌜🌝🌙✨
That's absolutely true, it's about personality over all. I've two females , one's super sweet and the other one is sassy and has real bad temper XDD

Hi :)
I am a little worried, I have two boys who are bff but recently I added a new rescued piggie. Now they are separated at the moment, but when they where toguether sometimes they chased the new boy, other times they get along and stick toguether. What is going to happen (probably) Tysm. (Sorry for mi english).

Hello! I’ve been trying to do as much research as I can before I get my two piggies- I’m wondering if a 32 x 22 cage would be okay for them? (I know it would falls under the requirements a little) great video btw!! ❤️
You can never have enough piggies. You can only have not enough guinea pigs. Also, please make a video on Nate. Drinking on his water bottle the whole time. I love this channel!

Going to the vet is why I have 22 rescued piggies. One family brought me their dying piggie and I rushed him to the vet. They couldn’t afford euthanasia. He would have died a long and painful death. It broke my heart.
Currently I have a piggie that has seen the vet three times and still has an eye problem. He will go again on Monday. This is reality for me.
Maybe get your vet to do a head X-ray? The piggy might have a calcified bulla? Just like 1 of Saskias' Buddah Boys who has a chronic weepy eye.
@@karaleetrapp so he may just have to live with it then?
@@kayesguineapigs, maybe. Triscuit and La Bamba each have a weepy eye. I think Saskia said that both boys have the calcified bulla. Of the 5 Buddah Boys only 1 does not have the calcified bulla.
