- David Byrne is burning down the house on Broadway. His show "American Utopia" is a smash hit, but that isn't the only reason the former frontman for the Talking Heads is so happy. Serena Altschul talks with Byrne about his love of performing, his growing affinity for collaboration, and his optimism, apparent in his "Reasons to Be Cheerful," a platform that spotlights ways in which the world is getting better.

Byrne. The older he gets the more Creative. In particular a Solo.
Nobody in the production of this segment knew the actual name of his mega famous band.
follow the laws. we dont care abot your opiions
Saw this twice on broadway. Immensely epic, heartwarming, thought provoking and beautiful. David Byrne really knows how to make you appreciate the beauty of humanity despite all the flaws and chaos
Sunday morning continues to be one of the best shows on tv
What is wrong with people CBS Sunday Morning ? There's no "THE" Talking Heads!
They pointed it out quite clearly by naming an album :
"The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads"
Is that clear enough?
Great comment.
The TALKING HEADS (STOP MAKING SENSE) is an Iconic video.....this man is an inovator of all times!!! Thirty five plus years in music and he keeps pushing the envelope!!!
It's Talking Heads.
Why does she repeat 'The' talking Heads. There is no The!
That would be *Talking Heads* not The Talking Heads.
Hmmmm??..What????.. My GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE!!!!!
Yeah...it was fine the first time, but it got seriously annoying afterwards. Even the news articles they are showing from the 80s shows it, while she says it wrong at the same time!! Narrator apparently had no notes.
Same as Ramones. It's not "the" Ramones
The most underrated musician of our time.
Oooh, learning they weren't in the band from a newspaper article? Harsh! Even worse than breaking up on facebook.
"Cause I got busted."
I broke out in tears and laughter
What a treasure. I remember as a kid listening to Talking Heads, and not really understanding it because it was just so far out. But in a subconscious level I loved it. And it opened me up mentally.
Well put!
Super creative talented man
That redhead is the wonderful, enjoyable, sweet drag queen, Ms. Kimberly Clark!
Wow, yes, s/he's really a standout in these clips, makes me want to see more.
The guitarist?
Ha! Not knowing this info, I thought he looked like an effeminate Louis C.K. wearing modified Drag make-up! Yes. He really is enjoyable to watch.
Kimberly Clark, Clark, Clllaarrrkkk
I saw their performance on SNL last weekend and was wondering who that was!! How cool.
77 i don't need to say anything more. pulled up
Glad the reporter brought up Luaka Bop and his other work. Would’ve loved hearing about his love of bicycles too.
Kinda proud of living in my shotgun shack tbh.
Love to hear Byrne and Peter Gabriel duet
Two Master Minds!........
I don't remember the exact year but I saw the Talking Heads at Forest Hills tennis courts or Stadium I remember having to gather up five other friends because I had six tickets and we got there oh 10 or 15 minutes late but it was one of the most spectacular outdoor concerts I've ever seen in my life in fact it was the most spectacular outdoor concert I've ever seen
What a joy to see this feature the day before I head to the Hudson for American Utopia. I saw it on tour in 2018 and thought it was phenomenal. I'm very excited to get another go.
A real artist and real World citizen, thanks David for your art!
I love David Byrne, but oh, what I wouldn't give for a Talking Heads reunion.
well...after "loosening the purse strings" on his last tour, he could certainly replenish the coffers w/ a talking heads tour. and he's obviously in a really good head space right now. so...if it was ever going to happen now would be the time
That would be so amazing!!! ♥️♥️🔥🔥👍👍
The way I see it he still is a talking head. No material is lost.
It's simply Talking Heads...
I love you David thank you for all the happy times
Chris and Tina, he actually called you FRIENDS 4:28 peace and love
Even the interviewer got old. Remember her on MTV. Wonder if that big suit is in a museum.
I think she looks nice for her age. But if you live in NYC, and breathe in all that dirty air what do you expect?
Geeee Sheila, what's a matter? You didn't age well?
Bonnie Osborne Do I know you? 😂
Wow 🥰
I was all excited about this Show until I saw the price to see it! Looks like finding joy is going to cost you.
All of Broadway is crazy overpriced.
@@itomba not exactly.
I agree but well, it's an expensive show.
Broadway stage hand union members make about $200K a year. Performers rightly want to make more on top of that. Someone has to pay.
If he’d never said, I would never guessed that he was Scottish. He definitely doesn’t sound Scottish. Or maybe that’s just me being uncultured.
I think this guy just became my hero
Why is everyone barefoot?
This ted talk looks crazy
The first musician I remember hearing as a kid was David Byrne and it was thanks to my Dad. The last concert we saw was American Utopia on Broadway. We got to meet David afterwards too, he’s such a kind man. A genius. I love everything this man has created 💕
David Byrne 💜
go and see this live...
Just Talking, No Heads.
Same as it ever was
N
Genio👍👏👏👏👏👏👏
credit card mommy
I really like Talking Heads but if he just recycled his old songs I can’t get too excited about this.
Would you buy tickets to see The Stones and expect them not to play Gimme Shelter?
The silver spoon from the Moody Blues blew it in Rome and the colored guy collaborated.
Andre Newcomb what?
As an immigrant he had more privilege than a Black citizen
Most immigrants still do... in “minority” loans, police treatment, and more...
Mental health does not exist when the world is full of smiles.
I’m sorry but I think American Utopia is not all that good - The musicians don’t seem to be up to par as musicians in the past and it resembles a high school matching band
@Tom Dantzig thanks! this comment made my day.
This is a puff piece
