YES! Stephen, you made a HUGE mistake! And so did I!!! I was actually attending UVA and had an accounting test the next day, so while EVERYONE was heading to the concert hall in droves, I alone was walking the opposite direction through the crowd, towards the library. One of the biggest regrets of my life. People talked about that show for 10 years, and -- obviously-- people are still talking about that tour. It was the show of a lifetime, and we missed it. :(
I had a ticket to see U2's Joshua Tree Tour, 1987 in St. Louis. Everyone it seemed at. SLU was going. The Cardinals Game 7 of the World Series was the same night. I was the only idiot who sat in a dorm room by myself and watched the Cards lose. I feel your pain
David Byrne! What a surprise. Somehow I hadn't expected to see him here. Guess it has to do with him seeming so much larger than life than most of the other guests on this show. To me at least. He is an original, lovably odd, with a unique singing voice. It really is good to have him still here, producing new music, having that youthful spark in his eyes. Yeah, can't help it; whenever I see him I am reminded of another even bigger legend, one who left us in 2016, David Bowie .
camelshit Bowie’s death still has me reeling after all this time. Byrne is a legend as well, though. Talking Heads never released a bad album, in my opinion.
I truly love it when an artist is as brilliant intellectually as they are steeped in lunacy, because our greatest collective insights begin with one skewed perspective being narrated to the crowd by a mad, charismatic genius.
When I watch the legendary video once in a lifetime I always am reminded of Stephen when David floats in the water for the first time. Just reminds me of him
This right here. Once, we have renewable energy on lock, then the world should use oil for better things. Just, have to figure out what those ‘things,’ are.
To summarize David Byrne as a musical Einstein is to underestimate his musical genius. Not even a Hawkings visa will do... he can only travel under a Byrne Visa. If you're not into his work, you should expand your musical horizon.
David Byrne is a genuine genius!!!I have followed his career since 1977 and have all of the original Talking Heads L.P.'s...he is also an outstanding visual artist (Painter)...I bow at the feet of a true creative Master...long live the original Byrne!...Btw Stephen, YES you fucked up by missing that concert. That was an historic moment in pop culture we will never see again.
Damn, I can relate to Colbert's story. Talking Heads were playing on my campus in '82 with the expanded lineup, outdoors for free! I had a test to study for, so I didn't go. Terrible decision.
I think all David has to do is play Talking Heads songs on stage with the cast playing Trump administration people. The show writes itself. Burning Down the House, Once in a Lifetime, etc.....Surreal!

I realize he can't do this all the time but this was one of the best. I have to say that I'm not even a Talking Heads fan but this was awesome. Do this more often if you can.
Stephen passed up the chance to see a concert as just one face among thousands. Thirty years later, BECAUSE he passed up that opportunity, he gets to see a once-in-a-lifetime showing by that same musician on HIS OWN SHOW. All things being equal, he made the exactly right choice and it's paying off in spades.

There is sometimes a fine line between mental illness and genius.
FungusMossGnosis mental illness is usually just misunderstood genius 🤔
He is genius.
Marvin Logan Jr. and awesome!
I want David Byrne to live forever
I wanted the same for Robin Williams.
Unfortunately, those who seem to have genius, have to pay some sort of cost for it.

David Byrne is a lovely person. You can hear it in the sincerity of his speech.
"YOU ARE GOING TO RELIVE YOUR FATHERS SINS."
