Life in the Bush of Ghosts is an extraordinary piece of work.
I got used to hearing it in the early 80s because it was on one side of a C90 that had a favoirite album on the other side....
Soon it was the other album that was the "one you play to wind the tape back".
I have no idea why I like it so much, bit there is something exquisite about it.

u should hear what Chris Frantz has to say in his book about what happened during the recording of My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts. Im not gonna tell ya! Youre gonna have to read it yerself!! Ok, ill tell u its in either chapter 42 or 43. Then again, its hard to believe any of Frants's recollections seeing as he says that Damon Albarn was the night barman at a hotel he was staying at in London in 1977. Albarn wouldve been about 8 years old.

Brian in this interview sells himself way too short, though I understand his points, yet still love the enthusiasm. He's artistically quite malleable and allows the musical canvas to have no limits sonically. If there are limits, he's chose them to be just that. An extension different than what he often starts out with. For David, that's just great fodder to groove with. These are possibly the two musical artists I identify with the most. From Heads, Music for Airports, Before and After Science, to Bush of Ghosts. These are just some of life's simple pleasures".
    Thank you, Gentleman.

I cannot begin to describe what a warm fuzzy feeling it gives me to discover that somehow (having just watched this) not only has David Byrne got a music studio work space somewhere steeped in the kind of homemade organised chaos & with an element almost of 'Just moved in / might move out again anytime' impermanency about it, that I'm extremely familiar with from my own sweet bolt hole ; but that despite him having been pretty much my alltime musical idol since I was a kid (now in my 50's) I discover from this, that somehow, by accident, we share pretty much the exact same aproach to coaxng songs to take on form out of the ether. It's genuinely made my f*cking day that !

David, once again the connection continues. I just listened to this album. The song, My Big Nurse is an uncanny name since when I was a visual artist, my boss and old friend at the time was married to a nurse (who was quite overweight) and who made a decent salary and allowed him to remain in the profession until where he was making enough to support a family. (Sears didn't pay us much in those days) But when I left to give birth, he became quite angry with me and threatened "If you leave, I will blackball you" I believe he did do just that since every job I had after that ended with me being dismissed for being "too slow" And the reasons I was let go were very minor, like cursing on the job, or talking about my supervisor behind her back. I think the seriousness to my psyche bears investigation as it ended up costing me money as I look back on it now.

This is a really super record and is of the same high standard as the only two other of their collaborations that I am aware of: My life in the Bush of Ghosts and Remain in light. There isn't one track that isn't fucking great.
It's so touching as well because there is a touch of nostalgia and regret running all the way through which perhaps alludes to their previous work together and the length of time since they last worked together. I'll buy it as soon as I can get my prepaid card charged up. The dimming of the lights LOL Make sure the door doesn't hit you on the way out.
