It's a very philosophical, existential film & the more a person elevates the more they comprehend it. Personally I understood much more when I got my reiki degree. The girls are definitely linked in a spiritual way: when Weronika dies from heart failure, Veronique decides to stop signing lessons, which would have been fatal for her as it later turns out, due to her own, undiagnosed heart problems..!
In the end, the puppeteer represents God, and it is an intense scene cause all her life Verq felt lonely, but not alone (as we all do) and was searching for answers, which he indirectly gave, esp when he tells her about her lookalike puppet of his "I make two, because they get worn out" or sth along those lines. I'd picked up a lot more clues supporting this theory but it's been a long time to be able to recall them all here & I'm sure if I rewatch I'll see even more into it.

I really love it. It's beautiful, mysterious, so damn atmospheric! And it really makes you think about what it means to be a person, really moving!
The scene that really hit me, was the one with the reflection hitting Veronique’s face and legs. The big mirror in the middle of the room was showing the red lighting. When the person in the window went to shut it, you can see the room was red also. The imagery was haunting and mysterious and I’ve never been moved in that way before in any film. True masterpiece 👏🏻

One important notice - music in this movie is one of the best and very original.
I love this film. To me it is a spiritual film (whether or not that was his intention). Marvelous in every way and I love the ending itself.

Hey I know this video was made 4 years ago. I just saw this special movie after watching the Three Colors Trilogy. I am curious did you ever rewatch the movie. I feel like it’s one that gets better with multiple viewings do to all the little details that might have been missed the first time. Also this was the best summary/analysis of this movie that I have seen. Great job.

I remember seeing this, and liking it, mainly for the photography and Irene Jacob...but it's dim in my memory - I need to revisit it.
I can see it taking on that kind of life in your memory after a while. Feels like it'd be a great film to rewatch after a few years.

I watched this last night and it's one of those movies that is perfect to watch at 1:00 AM. Surreal and magical, but I don't know about its ending, it's not satisfying me.
For me the movie fell flat from the beginning. Yes, I've understood it. Yes, I've seen "Krótki film o…” (Short Film About…) in the 1980's.
Still, this film feels like a manifest of a Christian oppressed in the Middle East. It's overdrawn to the extreme, and symbolic right into your face.
Look, if you like this one, there's _a lot_ behind that curtain that fell in 1989. Just reach out and read those subtitles.
IMO it's Kieslowski wishing he was Veronique, in France; or wishing he would have gone to France decades earlier, and found some innocent woman like Veronique to obsess over.
The Double Life doesn't have enough drama. It's too existential. The philosophy of the film undermines its poignancy.
It would have been a stronger film if it was just about Veronique, and not Weronika.
