Stained Glass Look With Any Stamp

- Today I am demonstrating how to use the stained glass stamp from DRS Designs to make any rubber stamps you have look like beautiful stained glass.
You can find the stained glass stamp I used here: www.drsdesigns.com/oval-staine...
Stamps that have large open areas without too much detail work best. The Iris stamp I used is from Anita's but I think they went out of business.
You will need:
White cardstock or printmaking paper
black ink
markers
clear embossing ink
UTEE or any clear embossing powder
Heat tool/gun
scissors
Stamp the stained glass background then overstamp the focal image. Don't worry if you stamp outside the lines because you will cut it out later. Color the image with markers. Press the clear inkpad on the image and sprinkle with clear embossing powder and heat. Repeat the embossing step until you have a thick glassy coating on the image. Cut out the image and you can bend and crack it if you wish. Add to a card! You are fabulous!

8 years later and this cool stamp is still available!!! I will order the square one, it is so cool!!! So glad I came across this oldie but goodie!!!
My husband actually makes stained glass as a hobby. We have used it for unique wedding gifts, because we know NOBODY else will be giving the same thing(Unlike a toaster or gift card hahaha). I can't wait to get the stamp from DRS Designs so I can adapt his patterns to the wedding card, or a gift tag. thank you sooo much Lindsey :)
OK! I've done my patriotic duty of supporting the US economy - rushed right over and bought the stained glass stamp, the biker's prayer stamp, July birthday, and three others. I've watched you use the Mega-Mount several times. It's next. Thanks for your wonderful tutorials/videos. I've been collecting and feverishly stamping for 19 years and learn so much from you every video.
I love watching you. So funny and entertaining. I grew up in Chelsea until I was 17, then moved to Fort Myers, FL where I am now. I miss being a Mainer at times, and then I remember the Winter's and feel grateful I live in FL. LOLOL
I just found this when I desired to make spring cards. It will be used for next Easter. Thanks.
I can see why so many people were wanting to see the stained glass stamps, they're really cool. It'll be a great way to stretch the stamps that we have in our collection. JIL
I already have everything you used to make this embellishment, but I never thought of using them in this combination! Love the stained glass, eager to try this. Thank you again.
Thanks so much for showing how this works! I LOVE it. BTW, the stamp company website has examples as well if anyone wants to check those out. Really great stamps!
Loved seeing how you used that stamp. You live in Maine, how lucky. My mom was born and lived in Kennebunk and her mom was born on Swans Island. I honeymooned in Maine and my husband have visited 2 more times with my parents, we hope to take our girls back someday. I love your videos, I'm always learning something.
Absolutely beautiful, the powder gives it an stunning finish, it really looks like the Stained window.
So very sorry that I didn't go to the stamper show in MA, looks like you really enjoyed! You are very enthusiastic, when you see something new your creative mind goes 100 mph, to try it and then pass it on. Thank You.
I love this stain glass tutorial. Can't wait to try it. You inspire me! Thank you.
By the way, I agree with you about the brushes/nibs of the water markers, they do get out of shape quickly. It is hard to get a fine point on them.
Thank you for showing the whole process....as I am kinda new to all the techniques of crafting. I really enjoyed learning this. TFS! You made that look so awesome!
Iris are one of my favorite flowers too; thanks for sharing your idea
I am probably strange but I love to watch the embossing powder melt, for some reason it fascinates me. LOL
Lindsay, those stamps will be such a great addition to anyone's stash! I love the way the piece came out. Hugs, Della
Hi Lindsey, I LOVE the stained glass stamps and went onto the DRS site, wound up buying 4 great stamps, and this after right before you went to the stamp show I was watching the great wizard of oz painting on a stamp you did, went on lost Coast designed and bought a bunch of their incredible stamps. Actually the owner of LCD needed to call me because the discount code wasn't working and She wanted to know did I still want the stamps in my basket. She was able to apply the discount, I have already received those GREAT stamps. I mentioned that it was your tutorial that led me to their site and she said she was seeing you this weekend at the stamp show! I try to be a frugal crafter myself, but I love your tutorials and I'm starting from 0. I make sure these folks know it's you that send me their way. .And a great big THANKS to you for making all of this so attainable to us newbies. LOVE all your tutorials. God Bless, Pat
Hi Pat, that is so sweet of you. Welcome to the world of crafting and thanks for the mention:)
OMG! My name is Anita and those were the stamps my grandma would use to make her cards! I've always found that neat, nice to know you have some too!
Had the same question as SuperHappyScrapper, glad to hear it can be done as i would get lost in all those lines . it is beautiful. Thank you
HI!!! I just ordered the large square stamp!! I thought that was the best way to get the best of both worlds! :) I figured if I want a round one I could cut it out and then put black around the edge. :) yay!! I can't wait for it to get here!! Thank you for sharing!!
Beautiful! And thank you for showing the embossing process. I've used embossing powder one time and I was really unsure of how long to use the heat gun on it. Newbs need to learn these things!

Hi Lindsay. I just watched a video of Natasha Foote where she specifically told us that her project was inspired after she watched your video. So naturally I had to come over and see it. Wow, what a fabulous technique -- just stunning. Now that I have seen this, I have become your newest sunscriber. Thanks so much. 😊🇨🇦
Welcome!
I love the colors you used! Great piece! And that's a cool stamp :-)
They all turned out beautiful!!! Thank you
I need to get one of those stamps.
When you said wait 5 min. the weather will change. We say that here in Colorado. Lol
I loved it! Thanks a lot.
Great demo, liked it so much I did go buy the stamps. You know I'm an artist not so much a crafter. But you are so inspiring I'm going more and more to crafting too. Thank you!!!
you can be both, I think a lot of crafter are artists but they are afraid to admit it;)
Beautiful technique!!!!!
Just beautiful
AWESOME!! xoxo Jen Thanks so much for this great tutorial!
It sure does resemble stained glass. Would make a good window hang. TFS...Bobbie
Great demo, not sure e I would have really imagined Th ending use of it otherwise.
I am absolutely like you with the research, I do want to try and avoid some pitfalls by doing the research, but when I overdo it I usually talk myself out of it or I get bored with it. Heck there have been whole hobbies that I've researched and quit without ever actually doing anything!
LOL:)
That was beautiful
Beautiful!

FYI I just bought a similar stamp from Impression Obsession called Craquelure. The same kind of crackle and 5 3/4 " square. Looking forward to using it for this technique.
This would look even more gorgeous on vellum!
That looks fantastic, Lindsay. I need to check if I can get the stamps here in the UK. I love the fact that you used the UTEE as until I saw you use it I thought it was only used with a melt pot:)
hiay lindsay thanks for sharing another great video x I do a similar technique as i dont have the stained glass stamp I just stamp my image and colour it then cover in utee let it dry crack it and cover over in black ink into the cracks and then wipe off the excess ink looks great x but I do NEED the stained glass stamp ;) tfs , crafty hugs xnanny maggiex
This is fantastic. I am going to have to dig through my stamps to find something similar to use. I can't wait to try it.. TFS dee

Really beautiful! A friend gave me a stained glass stamp one time and it didn't look nearly as nice as yours. LOL I'll have to try it again now that I know what to do with it. TFS
Lovely effect will definately try it when I get back off me holiday :)

Very nice love it
amazing work! i just wish we have those supplies here in the Philippines. tfs.
You are my new instructor!!!
Blue Mermaid67 welcome!
I look forward to learning a lot from you!
Whoaaaa! (I know, I’m deep diving your old videos again, haha), but this is wicked cool!
Glad you like them!
Ugh - it was 110 today where we live in Cali. Yeah, it's more of a dry heat - but imagine this..preheat your oven on to about 400 and then stick your head in it - LOL! NO - people do NOT do that please!! At about 4:00 today I needed to go to the post office. My car has to sit on the driveway and so when I got in the car, the leather seats and steering wheel was untouchable. I rolled down the windows and turned the a/c full blast. It took three tries of getting in the car before I could handle the heat. I honestly felt like I know what a piece of bacon feels like when it's tossed onto a hot cast iron skillet!! But enough about ME!! That is a really cool technique. Thanks for showing how to do the embossing.

Love this! TFS. And as a tip I don't unmount my wooden stamps when i trim them Iuse a razor blade snap of knife and just cut around the motife and peel off the strips of extra rubber, cause sometimes i destroyed the foam backing on the stamp when unmounting it.
good idea!
I did tell them that Lindsay The Frugal Crafter sent me in the comments section of my order!! Blessings!!
I'm responding to your concerns about your Tim Holtz distress markers drying out. It looks like your not pressing hard enough when putting the caps back on after using them. If you see a black rim on the marker barrel right under the edge of the white cap, then you don't have it on all the way and it's not sealed, which results in the marker drying out. I know it seems silly but I noticed one of the markers in the background of your video, and a black rim was visible. Make sure to press hard enough when recapping your distress markers so that you feel and hear a snap and there is no visible black rim under the cap on both ends of the marker. Hope this helps.
@7:15 yes water based marker ink is a lot thinner and the alcohol inks dry faster so the tips do not get water logged the way the water based inks do..I like both I just use them for different applications..I love your channel ..you are so talented and have a great personality.
+Madam Vonkook thanks:)
Great thank and just the right amount of chattering
Love the Stained Glass look, will have to look into getting a stamp to do that.
I was wondering about the matt cutter you had mentioned on a video quite a long time ago. It was the cutter to do the beveled edges. It cost so much to have them cut for you...Thanks for all the great videos....
LoganPush Style, it's about $20-$30 and I've had mine 15 plus years! I buy blades in bulk for it but they are not much:)
I know this video is old, but it makes me super nostalgic for when I used to do cardmaking and stamping with my ex almost step mom. She would love this technique-in glad you shared it! =^.^=
Hey Lindsay know this is an older video but I'm doing a swap which we have to do three atcs in stained glass effect - knew your probably done something - you always seem to, and found this great video! Love the background stamp and how you used a normal focal stamp on top. I don't have a background stamp but might experiment firstly with colouring background after stamping focal image then doing three layers if embossing powder then crack it and use my black PITT pen to trace the cracks. Alternatively I might just draw random crack pattern in background first then stamp and proceed as normal. Do love those stamps and as per usual I adore watching your videos. I love getting an insight into your daily life and like hearing about your day - I class you as a friend so value those times I sit with a cuppa and watch and listen to you Lindsay. Big hugs - ignore the critics. X
+Journal Kitty aww, thanks so much:)
Dare I say I made my own stained glass stamp a long time ago. I used odd pieces of
rubber from the outside of stamps that I had cut out. It turned out well and have used the same technique that you did. Thanks for the reminder as haven't used it in a long time. Edna
clever!
Gr8 tutorial.
Sangeetha
TFS :) I wouldn't have bought those stamps because I wouldn't have seen the big picture and I would be afraid of messing up every card :(. So thank you for showing us what it would look like...I might buy them now :)
Como hago para conseguir esos sellos?? Precioso tu trabajo, te felicito!!!
Love it! Getting that stamp and thinking abouttryingwith my twinkling h2o's...
that would be lovely:)
