Bass is arguably the most important instrument in a band. They simultaneously keep the beat going in tandem with percussion, they compliment the guitar riff and sometimes become the MAIN riff, and if it’s done subtly enough you can’t even tell the bass is in their. You can only tell when they take it out. Fucking live bass
As a bass player I 100% agree. I would argue that's its one of, if not the MOST versatile instrument in the world. There are so many different play styles, tones, tunings, etc. About bass. Same with regular guitar but you cant FEEL the guitar like you can a bass. Bass is an absolutely beautiful and perfect instrument
Oh yeah, think about metal in the 80's to very early 90's compared to metal in 2000, it's like all of the sudden producers and engineers discovered bass , and it sounds so much better, they should remaster all the old thrash metal albums and turn the bass up 2.5x.

They simultaneously keep the beat going in tandem with percussion, they compliment the guitar riff and sometimes become the MAIN riff, and if it’s done subtly enough you can’t even tell the bass is in their. You can only tell when they take it out. Fucking live bass
Agreed
As a bass player I 100% agree. I would argue that's its one of, if not the MOST versatile instrument in the world. There are so many different play styles, tones, tunings, etc. About bass. Same with regular guitar but you cant FEEL the guitar like you can a bass. Bass is an absolutely beautiful and perfect instrument
Calm down buddy
This man is a treasure. I don't think it's possible for him to speak without everyone around him learning something. Protect this human at all costs.
I think it's awesome how the bass has so much control over the overall sound.
It's fun being in between the rhythm and harmony.
Oh yeah, think about metal in the 80's to very early 90's compared to metal in 2000, it's like all of the sudden producers and engineers discovered bass , and it sounds so much better, they should remaster all the old thrash metal albums and turn the bass up 2.5x.
Victor Wooten is the package deal as a musician: talent, skill, and an absolute love for his craft. His bass playing is the stuff of LEGENDS
You’re right! 👏
I really like this cool & authentic guy! 🤩
I love when a melodic instrument acts as the rythm section and the bass plays the melody.
It always makes me feel good 😁
🎶"when the rhythm is the bass and the bass is the treble" 🫠
me too 😊
How is this genre of music called? Is this still jazz?
@@Child0fGOD It's called funk.
G-Funk
great stuff. Dude knows his theory, even if he is using his ear. Everything fits.
Bass players got my attention all day. That deep, rumbling sound coming off so smoothly from the bass makes my heart happy.
I love the "instead of just doing this" perfectly in tempo, even the accents hahaha
Nice
I had the pleasure of taking Vic out for Hibachi in Rochester, NY. He's an Incredible Bass player and an even more Stellar guy 👍🏽
It's cold as heck in Rochester
@@protoolsguru2853 That's why Victor was ther... That man is cold as ICE!
Nice to find another Rochesterian in the wild
I had 4 musicians like you in San Diego years ago in my group Night Vision and they made me sound so good. I was much better for them. Miss them all!!
Glad to see my other drummers are like minded in that a shared groove and just living in the pocket with your bassist is literally the BEST feeling in the entire world
The bass harmonics and his rhythm pocket -- so sweet.
As a bassist I’m very appreciative that my bandmates understand this kind of stuff and respect my place in the band as a bassist, especially in the band i’m in that doesn’t have a rhythm guitarist.
It's not a "band I'm in" it's "my band". A band IS the people
@@SmoothBaracudano
@@SmoothBaracudaCorrect. People. Multiple persons. So, not "my band", since the band doesn't belong to a single individual person. But "the band I'm in" since we're in that band together. As people.
How the fuck do you manage to give the counterargument to your own point you tried to make? Are you that dense?
@@chrisgallardo2130 literally the definition kid. You band together as musical group aka a musical band which was eventually shortened to band. You aren't in the band you are the band

Wootens are living legends and super nice people if you ever meet them. They exude that energy ❤
Need a full song , bass drops and I'm instantly bobbing.. That was extremely smooth
He IS the VERY best. I’ve seen him twice and was amazed both times. And he makes it look so easy.
Home is only the coolest thing ever when you leave it in the first place. Coming back home from an adventure is always the best thing ever.
true brother 👌🏻 dont stop to explore and experiencing things 🫰🏻👌🏻
Ai bot ass post
I love Victor. Such a great player
In case you're wondering, here Wooten plays a bVI chord sound progressing to a bVII chord sound over Music is Win's minor pentatonic ostinato.
And... The way Wooten adds "Jaco's harmonics style" over Music is Win's funk riff just makes everything sound so sublime.
Pure bliss ❤️❤️
Saw him live with Bela Fleck, got to hang with him, Bela, and Roy after the show, amazing musician.
Wooten and Fleck would be such a dream hangout! 💯
Bela and the Flecktones are AMAZING live. Dual sax, and Futureman. Bucket list for any student of music. Bela has the MOST Grammys all-time, I believe.
I saw him with Bela Fleck too, in NYC yeaaaaars ago. What if we were at the same show?!
I saw him with Bela Fleck at Carnegie Hall many years ago, with James Taylor, Patti Austin, hosted by Take 6. What a night!!
Who is he?
"Look at your head now." Man looked through time, space and the RUclips algorhythm to speak directly into my soul.
I loved every single second of this. Thank you both for existing ❤
It's honestly kind of funny where he goes "look look" and the camera pans away from him to focus on the guitar player lol.
Cameraman fell for the guitar player when the real pro was explaining what brings out the guitar player is the bass player. Fail.
The camera is fixed and this video was edited
I'm a drummer and I usually worked directly with the bassists for rhythm and control of the sound dynamic. I loved those guys
In my opinion Victor is the best musician you've had on the channel to date. Amazing!!!
I walked out of his brisbane show.
Kept mucking around with grooves instead wiping our faces off with his chops
That was awesome. The way the melody completely changed just had me grooving
ok, Wooten is a bass genius. Slightly contrasting bass rhythm while matching the guitars general rhythm. I fucking love. Love how he went from slightly showing off to immediately giving the guitarist a compliment.
Edit: wow, thank you all for the likes! Positive vibes!
Victor definitely is channeling Joco big time! I was lucky to catch one of Victor's life shows back in the 90s he was jaw-dropping back then but continue to improve to stratospheric levels is very evident in this short clip he continues to blow everyone away and at the same time help other musicians be even better musicians what more could you ask for as a musician? Deep respect!
Went from a little nod to a head bob in 60 seconds. That was cold!
This man is a Master of his instrument. Very interesting how he took that rhythm to his own place.
Last year at my high school, we had this concert involving only percussion. We had Victor Wooten and Greg Bissonette preform with us. One of the most memorable nights of my life.
Awesome
Wow, that's a lifetime moment for most professional musicians... Doing that as a high schooler...oof the jealousy
U have any footage?
Jaco changed the m’fing game! Victor is a MONSTER and immediately displays Jaco influence. Wow! RIP Jaco!
Oh my god, as a bassist I feel that are so many bands specially rock bands where bad musicians simply does not understand our importance for balancing the sound! They think the bass is only one more member, and maybe the less important! I played in some gigs where I made the sound better, simply adjusting some basic things in the groove...
I played in a couple of bands when i was younger as a guitarist and singer.
Always told the bassists and drummers, you decided! Im just the topping, you set the groove!
Well, it doesn't neceessarily have to be that way, it can also be any of the other members, who shaape the groove initially. I mean, a great groove is a great groove, no matter who comes up with it.
But yeah, YOU ABSOLUTELY SHOULD respect your bass players and drummers and ask for their input.
This is exactly why Thundercat is amazing on whatever song he's featured in or working on. These electric, smooth, mesmerizing grooves he does on bass is just phenomenal.
Cat is a melody god
You have bestowed upon me a previously unbeknownst fact, but, that I have forever agreed with.
Love this guy, Victor makes it simple to learn!
Music isn't just a song, it tells a story ❤
What a gorgeous melody he putted in with his magical bass
The bass isn’t magic, he is

@@thesinfulyogini2073 putted the ball? wanna go play mini-golf? we can grove to the bass and you can laugh at me being cringe.

Hey Tyler, Please show us the full version of this video...💓🙏
Everyone of us would truly love it! 🤘🔥
Its there in his channel, he has put the video 4 years ago
Loved that harmonic note.
Love bass and I’m a drummer at heart 16 years. So funky ❤ this man gets it, my bassist used to get so mad when I’d take his bass and add a little flavor to the songs we were working on
This guy was born to teach.
I've always thought that too... If he wasn't busy being an all time great performer and recording artist, Victor would be one of greatest teachers ever. Heck, he is anyway.
He gives big denzel vibes
Literally 😂
Not only looks like him but voice as well.

One of the absolute all-time greats. Thanks very much V W.
I feel like a lot of people vasty underestimate the bass and how important it is to the overall *sound* of music.

Its ALWAYS:
- A drummer helps the bassist
- A bassist the guitar player
- The guitar helps the Singer
- The Singer/Songwriter make a band special
dont agree. guitarists make bands special.
@@creatinovic Thats what you think at first, because the guitar is what catches your ear. But its not true.

I met Victor way back in 2006, to witness this type of coolness in person was mind-blowing
I was in a seven piece reggae band and if we had a horn section, sometimes we could be as big as 11 or 12. I loved the groove, everything fit everywhere nobody was trying to be better than anybody else everybody just uplifted the next person, everybody got their time to shine! And for the most part we just blended well and just as this man said, brought it home.
Dude is stupid good. No wrong notes does it again.
Bass players are so fucking underrated I can't even
YUP
This is why I love RHCP so much Flea does this perfectly and has John Frusciante to back him up 😎
I love rhcp as well. But let's keep in mind there's no comparison between Flea and Victor Wooten. Basically should not even be mentioned in the same sentence. Just saying
@@robtheroadie2240I don’t know much about victor but in terms of the actual lesson he’s giving here, Flea is one of the most mainstream artists that does exactly what he’s showcasing here.
@@evangelionl0vr857 yes, but Flea cant read or understand music. Just plays same list of songs over and over. Not my choice for a good bass teacher. Big difference between player and teacher.
@robtheroadie2240 you've obviously never listened to Victor speak about other musicians. He respects Flea, has incredible humility, and categorically rejects what you're trying to do by saying they shouldn't be talked about in the same sentence.
@@robtheroadie2240ah you also don't know Flea. Flea is classically trained and was a jazz trumpet player before he was a bass player. Stop talking about people you know nothing about.
