    Hi Paul, this was a really good head to head. Man, a few great albums there. Hope people understand this sent about who is the best artist/band, this is just an appraisal of the albums against each other. Like you say, love both of them. Was fun to see you struggle with your choices :-)

    Hi Paul. The Alice Cooper group was my "Beatles" in the '70s. Like you said, they were "deep in my veins" too, and still are. And even though I was very saddened by the ACG break-up after Muscle Of Love, I still followed Alice even to this day, through the good and bad albums.....and there were plenty of bad albums to come, haha! I still love the guy. For some reason I never much connected with KISS. Or Bowie. Or hardly any other theatrical make-up-wearing rockers. Alice was/is in a class all his own. A lot has to do with his sense of humor about it all. thanks for the videos! Jeff

    These Monday shows are so much fun and it's totally enjoyable watching you trying to decide which you like the best and I have fun trying to guess which will be the winner

    We're same generation, with the same childhood musical history. 70s for me was Alice, Kiss and Queen, until Rush and Zappa took over at the end of the Decade in my collection. This is very hard. But solid as every Kiss album is... Alice wins every time for me. I have continued to listen to Alice constantly for 50 years, whereas Kiss are just fond nostalgia memories. Though... I'd probably have to agree Kiss 1st beats Pretties For you.

    Paul, I was just curious if you bought the Billion Dollar Babies 50th anniversary Special Edition with the live performance in '73, the non-album tracks and the single versions of some of the songs? If so, what did you think of it?

    • @AsItShouldBePodcast
      @AsItShouldBePodcast  5 месяцев назад

      I didn't buy the 50th reissue. It's basically the same as the double disc reissue they put out in 2001, which I do have. The only tracks added that weren't on the 2001 issue are the "single versions" and the last two live tracks, "School's Out" and "Under My Wheels". I was never impressed with that live show in the first place (Alice sounds terrible), so sat this reissue out.

      @@AsItShouldBePodcast Same here. I stopped with the double disc in 2001. Never listen to the live bonus disc. In fact, I used to be jealous of those who got to see Alice in 1973 (I was only 12 at the time and lived in a very small town), but when I hear some of those old concerts I am not that impressed either. And by 1973 they had behind-the-curtain assistance from other musicians anyway. My first of several AC concerts was in 1980 (Flush the Fashion tour) - haha, talk about a weird version of Alice! Haha!

    Flush the Fashion vs. Unmasked? As much as I love a few of the songs on Unmasked (Shandi, Tomorrow, Easy as it seems) and though I chose more KISS albums over Alice than you did...Flush the Fashion is the better overall album for me.

    For me, Kiss started strong and faded, while Alice started weird and grew stronger. With that in mind, I’d go with Hotter Than Hell over Easy Action, but other than that, I find it hard to argue with any of your other choices. Destroyer v Killer is pretty much a toss-up for me, and Rock and Roll Over edges out School’s Out, but I completely understand why you picked Alice for those. The only thing you’ve said that I really want to argue with is that Christine Sixteen is a good song. Even when I was young, I thought “But when I saw you coming out of school that day” was one of the creepiest things I’d ever heard, and the intervening decades have only made it worse. It’s got a good melody, but goddamn, those lyrics are heinous. Apart from that, I’ll put my stamp of approval on your choices! (And I know just how important my stamp of approval is….)

      Alice got stronger over the course of the band era but faded after the break up. I like many of his solo albums but there are very few highlights in my opinion. The band discography is nearly all highlights. "Christine Sixteen" is KISS' power pop song! That and "Tomorrow" from Unmasked. Yeah, the lyrics are creepy but it's just a song...and it's Gene Simmons. If a Gene song isn't sexist or creepy then it must be an instrumental.

      @@AsItShouldBePodcast Yep. I enjoyed the weird and unpredictable series of AC albums from 1975-1983 (good and bad) but when "The Nightmare Returned" in 1986, the black-leather-tough-guy-with-the-horse-whip-and-"Alice"-printed-on-his-pants formula was thenceforth set in stone for decades to come. Some good albums were released since then (I love Raise Your Fist, Last Temptation, Brutal Planet, Dragontown) but most albums were/are very predictable and formulaic. All are very enjoyable, though, and with their moments of great humor and musical power. Still love the guy, even if I do roll my eyes now and then. Haha!
