    Hi, I love the Kinks , Lola vs the Powerman, Village Green, Muswell hillbillies, Arthur are great , Lola vs the powerman is indeed in my top 10 ever!. Sticky fingers and let it bleed are my rolling stones favourite albums. I'm more of a kink fan than a stones

    Wow, new to ur channel, and this was a great intro! Never would've thought of this line up. Although I'm on side with most of ur choices, there's no way I would give Beggars banquet or Let it bleed to the Kinks! Other than that I'm on board with "As it should be". Thanks bro.

      Thank you! Yeah, I wouldn't expect many people to go with me on those two pair ups, but I just love those Kinks albums too much. I'd be lying if I went with the Stones LPs.

    Well all right! I like the Kinks.....but I love the Stones (they are my second all-time fave band after the Fabs.) So.....aside from Dirty Work, Bridges to Babylon and Undercover, I pick the Stones. Great video once again!

    The kinks get all of the 60s for except for 67, between the buttons is my favorite stones album. Where should I start with post Lola kinks? Never herd anything past that album

      Preservation Act 1 is my favorite post Lola album. ("Sweet Lady Genevieve") . I also like the early 80s albums: Give the People What They Want; State of Confusion.

      I agree with NVG, Preservation Act 1 is probably my favorite post-Lola and Give the People What they Want is a pretty solid spot for 80s

      I’d vote for Low Budget as the post-Lola starter. Give the People What They Want is brilliant, too, and I’m one of those folks Paul mentioned who loves Sleepwalker, so I’d cast votes for those two as well.

      I agree with the other replies, so "Low Budget," "Sleepwalker," and "Give the People What They Want." On the bright side, the original records of these later releases are very inexpensive in used record stores, when you can find them. I don't like buying used records without inspecting them first, so the internet has never been a good option for me. Also, I could see someone paying more for shipping than the actual asking price for a nice copy of "Low Budget." I would imagine that you could find any of these very easily on eBay, etc., but I don't know for sure. (Never checked.)

    love both bands, the Kinks maybe had better or a wider range and variety of songs, but the Stones had a superior rhythm section. The Kinks lacked a Charley Watts and most definitely lacked a guitar player like Keith. Kinks a better album band, arguably, Stones a much better live band.

  • @davidlessenberry8736
    @davidlessenberry8736 2 месяца назад

    I actually agree with ALL of your picks. The Kinks got lucky on some of the matchups, though. I don't care for either Preservation Act 1 or Act 2, but consider the competition! EDIT: Forgot to mention, The Kinks are my second-favorite band, and The Rolling Stones are my third-favorite, so the fact that I actually agree with you is somewhat significant. Bet you can't guess my favorite! (Actually, you probably would, since it is The Beatles.) A friend of mine and I were discussing the other day that you actually have to put a little work in if you are a Kinks' fan. Their stuff has never been as easy to find or accessible in the US. I was very lucky to have a neighbor who was into the Kinks and actually had copies of "Face to Face," Something Else," etc. I also agree that "Muswell Hillbillies" is now overrated. Normally, I am not a big fan of compilation or "best of " albums. However, "The Kink Kronikles" isn't too hard to find for a reasonable price on vinyl, if anyone is unfamiliar with the fantastic music they made after "You Really Got Me" and before "Lola." I found your channel tonight via the old post where you ranked The Rolling Stones' albums, and I pretty much agreed with that video, too. (I like "Aftermath" and "Black and Blue" slightly better than you do.) "Between the Buttons" is definitely my favorite. I never can figure out which Kinks' album is my favorite: the run from "Face to Face" to "Arthur" is just too good. I have also watched your Bee Gees' video, and I really enjoyed that one, as well. I just subscribed. Keep up the good work!

    Y’know Paul? While yes, there’s absolutely great music in every decade, when you really think about, the one moment in time where the most innovation and evolution and revolution in music happened that changed things forever, was truly the 60s. It’s exactly why that run of pop music from 1958-1969 that will always be my favorite era of pure pop at least, because it has a warmth and organic airiness and soul and pure melodicism to it that was expanded upon in the 70s but completely lost by most of the 80s. Still, I will take even 60s schlock like Sugar, Sugar (which I actually love lol) over that signature sound of the 80s (with all the cheesy digital synths and huge gated reverb drums) any day of the week! 🤗🩷💜🩶

      I would add one caveat: Ultimately, Thank God for The Beatles. When people, talk about 1960's music, I think they forget how terrible the music could be from 1961-1963. Other than the soul and R&B, a lot of it is completely irrelevant and forgotten now. There are RUclips channels that post the Billboard Top 100 by year. (How do they not get copyright strikes?) These years are wide-awake, living nightmares at times. In contrast, I doubt very many people would skip any of the songs in the Top 100 for 1965. It's a DRAMATIC difference. Also, "Sugar Sugar" is bad, but it is much better than Bobby Goldsboro's "Honey." Three weeks at #1? @#$%^!

    I have to admit...I've never owned, nor listened to a Kinks album. I could maybe name 4 or 5 songs by the Kinks...So, (and yes I did make it all the way to the end of the video) because I do value your opinion and (more often than not) tend to agree...I guess I'll need to give them a listen. First album you would recommend I check out...(no spoiler alerts on your Kinks ranking video)?

    • @AsItShouldBePodcast
      @AsItShouldBePodcast  3 месяца назад +1

      Which Kinks album to start with depends on your taste, really. Like The Stones or The Beatles they have very distinct eras. Early stuff is more garage-y/R&B-ish, then they go into a very British Music Hall/Baroque period (my absolute fave!), then they switch it up entirely into a more post-The Band American vibe, then they start making just really weird-ass 70s concept records, then they get a bit AOR, then they go lightly new wave-ish rock... So there's a ton to choose from. I would maybe suggest Village Green Preservation Society to start with.

    • @PapaNicksMusic
      @PapaNicksMusic 3 месяца назад +2

      I’d also suggest Something Else (for 60s Kinks) and Low Budget (for late Kinks) as good starting points…

    • @davidlessenberry8736
      @davidlessenberry8736 2 месяца назад +1

      @@PapaNicksMusic Agreed. "The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society" may be my favorite, but "Something Else by The Kinks," or even "Face to Face," is a better jumping off point. OTOH, the 3 CD set of "Village Green" has a lot of non-LP singles and other great songs on it.... As I mentioned in another post, "The Kink Kronikles" compilation is fairly easy to find and very inexpensive on vinyl. I wouldn't normally recommend a compilation, but there are 2 LPs worth of great music there.

    • @davidlessenberry8736
      @davidlessenberry8736 2 месяца назад

      @@AsItShouldBePodcast "Village Green" is my favorite of their albums, but I wonder.... "Village Green" and "Arthur" may not be as accessible (?) as "Something Else." I had the luxury of becoming a Kinks' fan in my late 20's, and I was able to listen to that run of fantastic albums in release order. I had a neighbor who had them all when I was in grad school, and he forced me to listen to them in the release order by copying cassettes from the records that way. Smart plan! By that logic though, I would recommend starting with "The Kink Kontroversy," because it helps you appreciate "Face to Face" more, etc. The Kinks are BY FAR the most underrated band of all time, and Ray Daviess is such a strong songwriter that even their early "cash in on The British Invasion" albums are very good. The Kinks do suck at covers, though. Thank God they abandoned that path early and often.

    Can you please rank the Sex Pistols albums?

  • @PapaNicksMusic
    @PapaNicksMusic 3 месяца назад +1

    For what it’s worth (and I think the current valuation is $4.38), I adore the Kinks, and I have never liked the Stones. For me, then, this is a clean sweep. Even a mediocre Kinks album is going to rank higher than the best Stones album. Feel free to point the haters in my direction. (But please don’t forward explosive parcels. Thanks.)

    Great comparison since the patterns are so similar here. The early albums rely way too much on r&b covers. Peak artistic periods overlap: 1966-69 (Stones) 1966-70 (Kinks). 70s kinda not-so-great (contrarian view as to Stones probably). Both had a late 70s/early 80s revival. After the mid 80s - not much excellent material from either band. My favorite Stones album: Aftermath (US edition). Favorite Kinks: Arthur.

    • @davidlessenberry8736
      @davidlessenberry8736 2 месяца назад

      Curious why you favor "Arthur?" I find it somewhat depressing, when compared to "Village Green" and "Something Else." Some people actually favor "Face to Face," but I think their three best are "Something Else," "Village Green," and "Arthur." "Waterloo Sunset" is my favorite song of all time, so I tend to overrate "Something Else."
