I literally have not touched Overwatch since 2018 and almost everything that happened on screen from the maps to the heroes were immediately recognizeable, to the point where I was also in the crowd of "are you just showing Overwatch footage?". I can't help but feel like that's a fundamental failure.
Oh my God this is what I've been saying for every team based game. Especially when it comes to class based games. I'm a solo queue player mostly because I have no friends and getting a team of your own is already too much work over a videogame.
@@LordVader1094 I think I understand where you are coming from because I used to play a lot of team fortress 2 growing up. Thing is, it's still a class based shooter at heart and you still have to rely on your teammates and hope to GOD they do their role perfectly. But if you're a casual player or someone that likes to play a lot of custom servers then this may not apply to you.
It's almost a paradox, in a sense. Playing any video game, you want to feel like you're having an impact. That doesn't necessarily mean killing the most enemies or moving the payload the furthest, it can just mean keeping your team alive as a healer or dropping an important resource in a good position. You want to feel like you matter, and that your efforts make a large impact on the outcome. But being a team based game, this requires some amount of teamwork. And in a video game where most people aren't communicating or cooperating effectively, this ACTUALLY means that your 5 (or 4) teammates now become potential hinderances to your personal victory if they don't play perfectly. You only control 1/6th of the assets that help you achieve victory, and this gets VERY frustrating when you feel you're playing very well (and you may or may not be, objectively), but losing over and over all the same because of crappy teamwork. I think this phrase hits the nail on the head. The amount of teamwork anticipated for you to have a good time is unrealistic. If there's a way to fix it, I haven't played a game that has found it.
Games like this are different. Imagine in the real world you get teamed up with 4 other people and have to accomplish a goal. They could be 5 random people from anywhere in the world. Games like this do just that. Sometimes its toxic, but other times its awesome.
When your game has been completely stagnant for five years, your lead developer quits, and the rest of your staff are getting arrested for sex crimes, this is the end result.

Mei still slows down players and also deals more damage now. Personally I've always hated that her *primary fire* could literally incapacitate enemies. Seemed like way too much reward for only a little skill. Her ultimate sure that makes sense, but the primary fire has never made sense to me. Slowdown seems way more fair and natural. She still has her other 2 crazy abilities. The OW2 multiplayer beta is what's being reviewed here, which if I've been informed right will be available for free to those with OW1. The PVE is what will really differentiate OW2. Hopefully it has a lot of depth. I'm scared it won't tbh.

I hate Mei’s freeze but they should’ve just tweaked it instead of completely remove it. Make it longer to freeze people, *decrease the radius of her ginormous freeze ray*, make it so you have to be freezing them the ENTIRE time to actually freeze them, literally nerf it to the ground but don’t take it away completely, that’s her whole personality :/
I tried posting this on the OW subreddit, but I got blocked. Anyone else disappointed with OW2? Here's my personal experience. After waiting maybe just under three hours, seeing the queue start from 40k players and slowly go down, checking it every now and again, and having the queue reset a few times after reaching 0 players left in the queue. I managed to get into the game and play 2 matches. I honestly just felt underwhelmed. Maybe it's the small things such as the all the UI animations OW1 had, the sounds and feeling of being endorsed or whatever. I could be talking out of my ass here, but nothing really felt polished. I personally wasn't expecting OW2 to be anything more than just a glorified update anyway, but I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. Now I feel like I couldn't be more right. I was pretty much bored and didn't feel like playing any more matches. I've been watching this sub for a few days now and I don't remember the last time I've seen such a fragmented player base with various opinions. Quite a lot of toxicity going around from all kinds of players. Some people defending blizzards choices which could be considered anti-consumer, some think what blizzard are doing is absolutely terrible and others are just excited to play the game and everyone In between. Seems like everyone had something to say about it before it even came out. I'm interested in hearing what other people think. Do you think it's just a glorified update? Or do you feel like it truly feels like the game you've been waiting for this whole time? Whatever your opinion is, let me know. tldr dunkey was right especially about PvP.
Overwatch went from being able to compete with the other top games and becoming newsworthy as becoming the second most popular game in PC bangs in Korea behind League of Legends all the way to stopping development altogether and adding zero new content for years. That is just mind boggling to me that this can occur to such a popular game and can't wait for all of the breakdowns with its lifespan and monetization models.
@@grazyterror7612 I know I'm just having a laugh I get why they changed the name. Honestly naming a character off an IRL employee is asking for trouble. That said there's nothing wrong with poking fun at the sheer absurdity of the new name.
I remember watching a video detailing TF2's class design. Basically, each class was designed so that most of them (aside from the Medic, I guess, and even then he's still got a good amount of tools to protect himself when necessary) can support themselves. This sort of opposite approach to balancing a team helps TF2 because of the fact that it doesn't expect anyone to work as a team. By going solo, you're still contributing, so a team of complete strangers with zero communication would still work well as a team since everyone is contributing on their own terms. TF2 realized this idea over a decade ago.
TF2 is also designed for everyone to have different playstyles and still work. Pretty much everyone, even the Medic, can go full melee and do well. Demoman can focus on any of his weapons and do well. A good Medic can pretty much snipe with the crossbow. So on so forth.
I mean overwatch never goes for that approach because it's not tf2. It's not a game where you can run around on your own, its a team based game that's the whole point. On the other hand this 5v5 setup is dog shit and with nothing being changed? Yeah no this is a major let down
You had me for half of the review. Then you cued in the Digimon World 1 music, and I had to stop and do a double take. Digimon World 1 is such an underrated game IMO that the music had me sucker punched with nostalgia. I say this with all sincerity: Thank you.
I like how Dunkey actually puts in Overwatch 1 footage which you can tell because of the ultimate charger, It’s still looks the exact same but the fact that you wouldn’t notice only supports his main point
The fact that he said if “you think this is overwatch 1 gameplay you’re wrong” and most of the people probably believed him… even though it genuinely was overwatch 1 gameplay shows just how little of a difference their fucking is
One of the problems with queues is the role distribution. They couldn't find 33% (2/6) of players willing to play healer before, and now that they took a tank out, they need 40% (2/5) of players to pick healer. Those healer mains just aren't in the player base. Everyone wants to play DPS still, because there's still twice as many DPS heroes.
tanks were by far the issue for queue times not healers. agree more options for tanking/healing should have been a priority but I think even if they did people would still lean dps and queue times would still suck
I was a dedicated support player but they ruined the game for me by releasing characters like doomfist and hamster. Sorry but that shit is just not fun to try and deal with. I learned how to play around it to some degree but that still didn't make it fun again.
The problem is we have a small roster of supports and only 3 of them can realistically do anything in an actual fight. The others are cannon fodder for Junk/Doom/Reaper. I’m not asking for supports to deal DPS levels of damage, but it’s stupid that a half health damage can win a fight against a full health support.
The biggest reason why everyone is playing DPS and Tank is because that's where the changes are. Support still feels strong and kinda fun but there's absolutely nothing new to try. Tank and DPS both have a tonne of changes to try out.

I keep going back to OW1 to enjoy its last few days before I quit overwatch forever.
Despite the bot problem, Team Fortress 2 still has a dedicated fanbase, despite being totally abandoned by Valve and left to rot. How did Blizzard manage to ruin OW so hard? It had everything going for it!
It's because, bot and abandonment issues aside, TF2 is well-balanced and just plain fun, and as a result it still holds up to this very day. The problem with Overwatch is that Blizzard tried to please everyone, and they ended up pleasing no one; the game is boring and soul-sucking for pros, and borderline unplayable for casuals. They should have picked a road and stuck with it; either make it a highly focused, competitive game designed for pros and eSports, or make it a zany, all-out, anything-goes free-for-all designed for casuals. With the Overwatch League now on life support, streaming at all-time lows, and the casual crowd tuning out in droves, Blizzard now has to lie on the bed it's made for itself.
One word: Bastion I know everybody's like "yeah, you just don't know how to defeat him". I do. I'm just tired of having to do it again, and again, and again, forever. Bastion sucked the life out of every fking match and forced the meta into a perpetual unyielding loop. They waited until OW2 to fix him, so they knew he was bad gameplaywise but just postponed fixing him for YEARS. There's not even marrow left in the bones of Blizzard.
@@blurgle9185 I was going to say that Bastion isn’t that bad of an issue, but then I remembered I stopped playing around the time double shield meta became a thing so he probably is pretty bad, I just never experienced it.
I know it also had issues but I feel like release or even beta Overwatch was the game at its peak. The vision was clear and uncompromised, the characters felt like their abilities matched their design, and there was more variety. Now it all feels diluted and muddy. A vision clouded by indecision.
Absolutely amazed that instead of allowing players to have fun with multiple of the same characters on a team or No roll queues, they decided to not rework characters or change the design and objectives of game modes
I'm glad Blizzard has decided to keep up with their time honored tradition of changing nothing/just making things worse and expecting people to still play their games

I still think that the fact the ONLY NEW Character ADDED IS A DPS, when there are 7 SUPPORTS IN THE ENTIRE GAME just goes to show how little they care about balance. Especially when one of your 7 supports is basically just a DPS and doesn't even heal much. You have this crappy role que because you refuse to add more supports in the game. Make supports interesting, que times go down. What they did with tanks is a good start but they need to either do something similar for supports or rework/inject 10 new supports into the game to make it not fail at launch.
there will be several new heros when the game launches. Not sure why they didnt give us more than 1 new hero to play for the beta. Just hurts the image of Overwatch even more. Its making it look like theres no content at all.

"The game still expects an unrealistic amount of teamwork from random players" hit different
Oh my God this is what I've been saying for every team based game. Especially when it comes to class based games. I'm a solo queue player mostly because I have no friends and getting a team of your own is already too much work over a videogame.
@@Azami0001 Except TF2.

Mei still slows down players and also deals more damage now. Personally I've always hated that her *primary fire* could literally incapacitate enemies. I managed to get into the game and play 2 matches.
I honestly just felt underwhelmed.
Maybe it's the small things such as the all the UI animations OW1 had, the sounds and feeling of being endorsed or whatever. I could be talking out of my ass here, but nothing really felt polished.

More games would really benefit from this mindset, but apparently it is too high IQ
TF2 is also designed for everyone to have different playstyles and still work.
Pretty much everyone, even the Medic, can go full melee and do well. Demoman can focus on any of his weapons and do well. A good Medic can pretty much snipe with the crossbow. So on so forth.
And on top of that, the game doesn’t punish you for actively trying to work together, even if you don’t necessarily need to in order to succeed.
Sorry to do this to you, but you mean over two decades ago.
I mean overwatch never goes for that approach because it's not tf2. It's not a game where you can run around on your own, its a team based game that's the whole point. On the other hand this 5v5 setup is dog shit and with nothing being changed? Yeah no this is a major let down

What on earth, lmao
Genuinely thought you were showing Overwatch 1 gameplay. That's just absurd
I mean, some of the clips are OW1 gameplay, but it is pretty hard to tell the difference
@@EtanChamare it’s actually super easy to tell the difference the ui is completely different
@@spacerocks5633 "Completely different" lol. That's quite the overstatement.
@@Kpazz I didn’t say that to mean improved just meant it in the sense that by looking at a screen shot from either game it would be extremely easy to determine which game you are looking at by looking at the ui
@UCf15F3Xp4SFjWofXJ4DoeRQ him also complaining about 8 minute queues as if that wasn't common in ow1 was what did it for me.
turns out it was just a couple of new maps (and removing some old ones) and some new heroes
Came here for 3:19 in light of recent events
Hey, you know how TF2 forces you to play as an Engineer if there's too many Snipers on your team?
Oh wait, no it doesn't, because that'd be fucking stupid.
This is the one thing I hated the most about Overwatch. There's 0 opportunity to do goofy fun shit, and if there is, Blizzard ALWAYS made sure to patch it out.
Someone on my team: WE DONT NEED 3 SPIES
Me: they are so right we need 4
That's because TF2 is a clusterfuck filled with children and morons and isn't good for anything other than unfunny memes. If you like drooling and seal clapping at conga lines then by all means go throw your life away and don't try to bring that into other games.

Congratulations to Overwatch 2 for being the first big game patch disguised as a sequel-type game. Truly revolutionary
Madden sweating in relief
Street Fighter would like a word with you
Splatoon 2 started off as a big game patch basically, before getting updates to make it good
you forgot Battlefield 4
PSO2 NGS did it first, only in the opposite way.
They disguised the blatant sequel with almost no connection to PSO2 as an "expansion" in order to keep using the many crossovers they have without having to pay for licences again.
How the heck is this already five months old? I legit thought this was posted last week
the game is out and IT IS EXACTLY THIS. What were they doing for 5 MONTHS?
I was expecting to get some chuckles but now I’m just depressed because of the truth

@@zerorobespierre918 yeah but that doesnt make it bad? ok, its the same game 2, but thats perfectly fine yall are just so damn negative over such a positive FREE update.
You know when you made this video, I wasn't in the beta yet, and I thought it couldn't be as bad as you are making it out to be. But you were right. It feels like they changed the HUD, added some maps and a ping system and that's about it. I hate the hero changes. I keep going back to OW1 to enjoy its last few days before I quit overwatch forever.

Damn really i loved it. Feels way better then spam-chokefest OW1

Despite the bot problem, Team Fortress 2 still has a dedicated fanbase, despite being totally abandoned by Valve and left to rot. How did Blizzard manage to ruin OW so hard? It had everything going for it!
Fanbase is pretty toxic though, and has racism + anti-LGBT + sexism problems
One word: Bastion
I know everybody's like "yeah, you just don't know how to defeat him".
I really wish they would do something to where tf2 can be played on a 64 bit system...
Characters slowly becoming more generic for the sake of esports
i remeber my DREAM was to play overwatch for a long time, not having a capable computer
Season 3. Season 3 was the games peak in term of playerbase and balance
@@giulioceresini1435 Agreed
The first year or so of OW was the peak experience and it hasn't been the same since.
Am I seeing double? 😂
Absolutely amazed that instead of allowing players to have fun with multiple of the same characters on a team or No roll queues, they decided to not rework characters or change the design and objectives of game modes
It's for game balance.
I'm glad Blizzard has decided to keep up with their time honored tradition of changing nothing/just making things worse and expecting people to still play their games
It's not amazing, but it's still better
Anything is better than no content. But just because it's content doesn't make it good content. Now we just have tanks and dps yelling at support for dying from the enemy support tanks and dps.
"expecting" is a wrong word because people still do play their games. Bethesda has proven it with Skyrim "it just works" and that it does
LMAO. Very true 😭
Ftfy: time honored profitable tradition
The McCree name change never bothered me since they changed it to get rid of any association with one of the staff members who was committing a lot of the sexual assaults in the office. HOWEVER my gf pointed out to me a voice line between Sombra and McCree where she asks if Jesse is his real name and he says “well it’s definitely not Joel” so not naming him Joel is a huge missed opportunity for a joke
Somebody somewhere who's killed people or is a sexual abuser might be named Matt, better change your name to be safe
@@Onyx1987 I think the point is that the matt in question that you have brought up isn't Ops namesake. but you know who really cares when you gotta roast someone right? Right???
@@Onyx1987 I mean it's a character that's a direct homage to a real person who was shit. Seems reasonable. It's not like anyone is changing real names over this
@@EpicSubmarines Actually yeah the Matt I brought up shares the namesake, that's the whole point of hypothetical for the sake of comparison. Point being it's not worth the effort, no one is ever going to refer to the character as anything else, and the real Mcree will be dead and forgotten like he deserves while the name will always be associated with a cool cowboy instead.
I was playing OW1 last night and whilst Mcree is now Ryan McGunGun, a grand portrait of the Great Enabler. Mike Morhaime, who has already came out and admitted responsibility (unlike twats like Brack) is still sitting high and mighty in Blizzard World taking the space up where a perfectly good fruitbowl could be sitting.
And Blizzard did not disappoint 🤣 game is as shitty as dunkey expected
It's funny cause the die hard fans swear the devs are gonna release some kinda super secret reveal that'll show all those mean bullies
And here we are now, they did
I still think that the fact the ONLY NEW Character ADDED IS A DPS, when there are 7 SUPPORTS IN THE ENTIRE GAME just goes to show how little they care about balance.
It’s a beta. They have 6 new heroes planned at launch.
there will be several new heros when the game launches. Not sure why they didnt give us more than 1 new hero to play for the beta. Just hurts the image of Overwatch even more. Its making it look like theres no content at all.
They should bring back sym as a support
And how many of those do you think is gonna be a healer lol? “It’s just a beta” with this few changes does not bode well for a fresh and exciting release.
They teased 6 new heroes so far, might be more or not idk.
this really makes you feel like you waited 5 years for overwatch 1:2 a fragmentary passage
He was right lol
can we talk about how genius it is that dunkey made two overwatch two reviews, only with slight differences? seems familiar…
